OK, I know I should be contacting VMS directly but it's 8pm and no reply and I'm hoping someone on the board may be able to help. I installed replacement ECM this evening; a little harder than I expected due to fiddling around the wires but eventually got old one out and new one in took about 30 minutes. Now get engine warning; so far so good, also bought the dashhawk to clear code. Hit the clear code button and nothing. Tried it a bunch of times, no help. Code is 0315 unknown. What am I doing wrong. Any help welcome. Thanks in advance.

Read the dashhawk manual, in the manual it will tell you how to do a Crank relearn. Nothing to it.

Exactly. You need to do the crank relearn.....and have a beer ;)

P.S. press down on the brake hard and long when the DashHawk tells you during the relearn. Had to do it a few times before I got it right.

CASE Relearn
CASE Relearn is the Crank Angle Sensor Error relearn procedure. This is necessary if:
A P1336 Crankshaft Position Sensor Error DTC is present
A brand new PCM is installed
The engine crank sensor has been disassembled or replaced
The engine balancer and/or timing chain has been removed or replaced
This procedure is prompted with various menus on the DashHawk, but it is VERY IMPORTANT THAT THESE
PROCEDURES BE CAREFULLY UNDERSTOOD AND FOLLOWED CAREFULLY or the CASE relearn may not be
successful.
This procedure is as follows:
Chapter
 12
D A S H H A W K I I
12-2
1. Be sure the engine coolant temperature is at LEAST 158 degrees F. The DashHawk will check and will not let
you perform the procedure if this condition is not met.
2. Set the Parking Brake and make sure the hood is closed.
3. Turn the engine off for at least 10 seconds.
4. PLACE YOUR FOOT FIRMLY ON THE BRAKE. This is VERY important, as the procedure will NOT
work if you do not have the brakes firmly engaged!
5. Go to the Diagnostics Menu->GM Commands->CASE Relearn menu on your DashHawk.
6. Start the vehicle and let the idle stabilize.
7. Follow the prompts on the DashHawk screen. When ready, hit ENTER to initiate the process.
8. When the DashHawk tells you to, steadily rev the engine up to approximately 4000 RPM until you feel the engine
stutter or “top out”.
9. IMMEDIATELY back off the throttle and let it return to idle.
10. Check the DTCs and see if P1336 is present. If not, then the relearn procedure is complete.

Thanks for your prompt help. It's easy when you know how! New ECM is in and working. Immediate difference in power. New tank of gas just went in so I'll see what it does but I didn't get this car for the economy!!

The 0315 "Unknown" code stayed on for several key cycles, even after I did the case relearn correctly. As long as you no longer have a continuous check engine light, you did the case relearn correctly.

If you get a CAI and rid yourself of the original intake, you'll find it's pretty easy to swap ECMs, like when you need to go to the Pontiac dealership for updates to the ECM etc.
