Omega seems like a weird name.. reminds me of the Olds Omega:

Omega is an Opel name - the Rekord was replaced by the Omega in the 80's. The 1989 VN Commodore was in simplistics terms a widened Opel Omega

Yep that's correct. Some pics for comparison.

The biggest give away is the doors.

Didn't the Opel Omega spawn the Cadillac Catera?

Unfortunately, yes it did.

menace,

IIRC, the VT Commodore was 'wholly" Australian in design. The link with 'co development" with the Omega was broken with the VT design

The likeness to the Omega is GM family trait only

I am hoping to go to Brasil next month and will try to get a test drive
at the dealership. Already had driven the VX based Omega with the Buick V6
in Brasil but it was underpowered with all of the extra weight(bullet proof glass,
doors and gas tank).

I think the Berlina (which this is based on) is the least attractive of the VE lineup. The wheels are too small, there is not enough chrome and the grille is boring. A set of 19" wheels make a huge difference, but the Calais is a much better looking car.
