You can use these numbers as a reference:

2004 LS1 M6 Holden Monaro = 15.3 L/100km (converts to 15.37 mpg)
2004 LS1 M6 Pontiac GTO = 17 mpg city/29mpg highway

2007 M6 Holden SS V-Series = 14.3 L/100km (converts to 16.33 mpg)
2008 Pontiac G8 = ?

It looks like the Aussie ratings are more conservative than the US ratings. However, it does look like the G8 will get better milage than the 2004 GTO.

Wheels magazine tested the Calais V V6 and the SS-V V8 over around 3000km just after the VE was released. In the V6, they got a best of 9.5l/100km (25mpg), a worst of 12.8 (18.5) and an average of 11.1 (21).

In the V8, the best was 11.0 (21.5) the worst was 13.7 (17) and the average was 12.4 (19).

What? My cammed 05 GTO A4 with a stall gets 19 mpg combined.

Any numbers posted to date on similar drivetrain do not take into account AFM or DoD, as it is also called. If taht can boost the all-around into the 23-25 mpg range that would be most excellent and comparable to teh car it replaces.

Probably Imperial. That would make it -

In the V6, they got a best of 9.5l/100km (~31 mpg), a worst of 12.8 (~22) and an average of 11.1 (~25).

In the V8, the best was 11.0 (~25.5) the worst was 13.7 (~20) and the average was 12.4 (~22.5).

If the v8 powered G8 can get 27-30 mpg on the highway I'll be very content.

I get 25-27mpg hwy with my 04 GTO @ 75 mph, so if it comes in close to that or better that's great.
