: G8 GT #120 - Harrop H122 S/C Kit
RellisG8 06-10-2008, 05:17 PM It has taken a while but the guys doing the work at Virginia Speed have finally wrapped this up after waiting on Customs, working extensively with Harrop to make adjustments to the parts, and tolerating my bugging the hell out of them along the way. Picking the car up to tomorrow.
No numbers on it yet. Will scan the dyno charts and try to upload them after I get them.
Harrop H122 S/C, Harrop Intake Manifold, Harrop CAI, Fuel Injectors, Stainless Fuel Rails, Intercooler, Custom Stainless 1 7/8" Headers, Custom Stainless 3" Exhaust with Magnaflow mufflers and stock tips, HP Tune, and the money keeps pouring into it.....
Pictures on LS1Tech.... they are too big to load here.

Mr. Sandog 06-10-2008, 05:20 PM Nice. Are you guys going to be selling these?
yevot 06-10-2008, 05:26 PM Please keep us updated!
SRG963 06-10-2008, 05:45 PM I see you have no X or H pipe. Is there a reason for not having one? Just curious....

If you jump on LS1Tech forum you can get a hold of Shawn@VASpeed. He did the actual work on the car. Otherwise just google "Virginia Speed".
This is the first setup like this from Harrop in the U.S. so they had some kinks to work out and Harrop is heavily informed as they were kept in the loop to all the required adjustments.

No certain reason for not having it. Just didn't put one in.
RellisG8 06-11-2008, 09:07 AM Just as a heads up on this.
Get stronger pushrods and valve springs. Have them installed either before you put in the S/C or while you are doing it.
:drink:
RellisG8 06-12-2008, 10:38 AM dyno numbers at the wheels as it stands for now:
hp : 453 vs. 300 stock
torque: 443 vs. 315 stock
(this is with the stock camshaft)

GORILLA! Here Lambo, Lambo!
jsalbre 06-12-2008, 03:50 PM GORILLA! Here Lambo, Lambo!
Lambo? Those are awesome numbers, but I'm not sure it's ready to take on any Lamborghinis yet. The Diablo 6.0 (1996 and newer) does 0-60 in 3.6 and the 1/4mi in 12.1 at 124mph, the Gallardo will do 0-60 in 4.1 and 1/4mi in 12.4 at 118mph, and the Murielago does 0-60 in 3.6 and 1/4mi in 11.7 at 122mph.
I think once the G8 is pushing 575 or above at the flywheel it should be able to take one of those on though.

It is a fun ass ride and it just wants to move... begs you to put your foot down.
The guys at Virignia Speed did awesome work and saw this thing through. I can't thank them enough. If you are looking for this setup definately get a hold of them as they are the only ones who have put this on the road in the United States.
racerns 06-12-2008, 11:19 PM Those are some pretty nice numbers, but I would have a hard time picking the Harrop kit over the Magnason unit. The maggi made about the same or a little more power while using the stock air box and exhaust for what is expected to be a lot less money. Are you going to bring it out to any of the local shows as I would love to take a look at it? I have yet to even see another G8 on the road in the Hampton Roads area.

RellisG8 06-13-2008, 10:12 AM When we started this project I expressed my intent of not pushing the engine so hard so as to have the internals start to snap. Sorry, its privately owned and funded - not sponsored or have a full shop behind it to finance it. No point replacing the engine, transmission, or differential if you don't have to.
I agree the Harrop is more expensive than the Magnason but it is a really nice setup and I am not concerned about the difference in cost. If you are on a financial limitation then there you go. Myself, I was looking for a setup that was more local to where the car first began (Holden) and not where I was.
In time the internals will be upgraded and then I will push this to its limits.
What local shows? The car will be at the "Braselton Bash" in Atlanta, GA on the 21st of June. By then it will have the Pedders eXtreme Track suspension on it as well.

Since you got the car done a VA Speed I figured you were local to the area. I was talking about the standard Sat night shows like Genrose in VA Beach or Bass Pro over in Hampton.

I like your thinking. Especially after hearing about some of the LS2 nightmares. May not be a bad idea one way or another. Could be an easy solution to a lot of problems down the road. Retainers seem to be the weak link there.

You might know a friend of mine. He drives a white SVT Cobra. I am in the local area (Newport News) just have to go out of town tomorrow until next Sunday. We were talking about Bass Pro as he was saying I should bring it out.

Good tip. Appreciate it.
SPARKYBOY5X8 06-14-2008, 04:56 PM Better get the new tranny ready too, that weak thing will not last long. Making about the same whp as the Maggie 112 tested youtube by haddad. 460 at the wheels is still under the 475 at the wheels that the M5 V10 makes so the BMW will still beat this S\C'd car. FYI: You'll need at least 490 at the wheels (560) bhp to run a 12.4 quarter at 114+mph in a 4000+lb car with 2.92 rear.
racerx 06-15-2008, 06:03 PM How dod you get the charger to work? i see the pully was in the rear....so what turns it??
Flash99 06-15-2008, 06:13 PM look at the pictures you will see a pulley below the throttle body. Nice work on the system, any thoughts on the fueling issues? We cant make over 500RWHP because of the low fuel, we are trying the magnavolt for a temp fix. I would love to see what the fuel bucket, and pump options we can change.
racerx 06-15-2008, 07:25 PM K, got it...nice setup, can't wait to get my hands on it

I have seen the car. If you decide to go out there send me a PM and let me know.

racerx 06-19-2008, 10:49 AM i e-mailed the company a few times now, no response. So....i'm wondering what these guys are doing? Somebody has already got the jump on them.

Just got back. With the 47# injectors and stock fuel system it is at 97% duty cycle. I am defiantely going to upgrade this as well.
2600 mile drive on this setup not one complaint from the engine.
Pulled 21mpg on the highway doing 80 - 90 mph the whole way there and back.

Let me work on that for you. by the way: no lateral roll on corners and dead spot in steering is gone. awesome feedback from the road with no uncomfortable residual effect. you feel it and then its gone. it just drives better the faster you push it.
roswald0511 06-23-2008, 02:02 PM How much boost?

Give these guys a call. They can give you information on this and will have to give you the the price. I can't estimate their prices for them.
Will take pictures tomorrow of the G8 after it gets detailed and try to load them here. The car is solid.

Shawn from VA Speed quotes a price of just over $10K for the supercharger kit, I am not sure if that includes install. I also talked to Shawn about getting the the custom headers and exhaust and was quoted a price of $2500.

M5Killer 06-28-2008, 02:08 AM has pricing been released for the fuel upgrade kit ?
RellisG8 06-28-2008, 06:49 AM We have just finished the prototype fuel upgrade kit for the G8 ... it will support in excess of 900rwhp.
It is all in-tank, using mainly OE components and retains legal and emission compliance. :)
As soon as you get an estimate on the cost of the setup get a hold of me and I will have it shipped to me in Hawaii.
It will be integrated into the vehicle no later than August when the car arrives there.
This should be about the same time the brake upgrade kit is due to come out from what I have been told.
4000 miles since the H122 was added and not one problem from the engine.

Thats a bold statement. Have you gone through the testing?

This is how it sits with the Pedders extreme suspension on the stock 18" tires.
Walkaround: (Will try to get a better video with cleaner sound in it. Wind and traffic made it hard to pick it up)

Next: Harrop Brake Kit, Harrop Fuel System, and then to the rearend and transmission along with bigger cam, connecting rods, forged pistons, better heads, and bigger pulley on S/C. Wheels will come last!
Harrop 07-06-2008, 04:22 AM Thats a bold statement. Have you gone through the testing?
My apologies ... I should have stated Aussie compliance.
However ... Based on what we have been informed by the authorities, I am reasonably confident the fuel system will also pass compliance in the US.

Are you raising the compression of the pistons when you put in forged ones? If not, why not drop the size of the pulley instead of putting on a larger one??
RellisG8 07-20-2008, 11:13 PM sorry been in the middle of a move to hawaii.
car will be arriving here in a couple of weeks.
cam, piston and head selection will be done together to maximize
and stabilize the internals of the engine when it gets over 500hp.
wil be trying to take it to a track here in the pacific to see how much the stock tranny can handle under the current 443 ft-lbs of torque. with the addition of drag tires it should knock most if not all records for g8's out the window.
will take some pictures of the car in waikiki and post them either here or on youtube.
havent seen any g8 gt's on the road here in oahu
RellisG8 08-23-2008, 03:30 AM #120 of 888 SOLD.
You will find this one roaming the streets of of Oahu and downtown Waikiki terrorizing damn near everything it comes
across. To date it is the only white g8 gt on the island so if you see one this is it.
If you ask why then here are the reasons:
1. No track here on the island any longer
2. The car came to far in mods to undo the work to make
it street legal (Hawaii's little safety inspections).
3. Pontiac wants $1100 for each catalytic converter (rip off).
4. Lack of Vendor support on the Harrop S/C (Harrop).
5. Traded for a Mercedes Benz and picked up some $$$$ on top of it.
6. The guy who has it now is going to unleash the power in it
and turn it into a monster.
7. No vetter, lotus, camaro, mustang, or ferrari either here or
between virginia to texas would run against it (no BS - and not to mention Intense racing wouldnt accept the challenge to run their little twin turbo against it.)
8. Moving on to split window stingray project as soon as I lay
my hands on one.
9. Pontiac made a fatal mistake by choosing the LS76 over the LS3 (Engine and driveline can't handle the boost and torque - snapped a lifter and bent a pushrod on first dyno pull when it reached 415rwhp)
10. $52,000 is as much as I would bring myself to put into the car, especially for a Pontiac (anything more and I would have been kicking myself in the ass for not buying a ferrari).
Cheers!
Harrop 08-23-2008, 07:50 PM 4. Lack of Vendor support on the Harrop S/C (Harrop).
Do you feel there has been a lack of support?
(We are not aware of any questions or issues you had).

you can email me at ellis-g8@lycos.com for my response to this question as I would not want to respond with anything that may be taken poorly or inappropriately.
geez 10k for a blower kit? I'll take my 6k and get a maggie or procharger or even a turbo.
Willow 10-01-2008, 12:59 PM I followed this thread for awhile, certainly a great car. However, I'm not sure why people refused to run your car.. Yes, it's a sick car, but by no means something I would've shy'd from running against. Unless the numbers (450ish/460ish) you posted aren't the true numbers..
For a 122, which is a decent blower, those are really horribly low numbers I would say even for an automatic. Extremely safe tune? Has to be. Using my 112, without a cam on a safe tune I was pushing 500+/500+. With a cam on a safe tun *and the belt slipping* I was 520/570 (500tq @ 1,500rpm). I never got to do the new pull once I fixed the belt issues, but just from the extra kick in the pants I'm guessing it was 540/600.
And that's with the stock LS2 heads, not the better flowing ones on the L76.. only big difference is the top end of the motor--easily fixed.
Just my .02c. I would've run you any day. Not trying to put down the hard work you put into the car or the money (I can feel you there), I'm just flabbergasted that people refused to run you. I ran with Porsche's, Lambo's, and other high-powered custom cars. 'Vettes/Mustangs were the least of my concern unless someone put some real coin into them.
mijo1479 11-03-2009, 12:08 AM Bump
I am looking into buying this car, any advice from anyone smarter than me. Which is probably everyone.
