: Excessive Dust

Has anyone noticed excessive dust on the lower body behind the wheels and the rear of the car? At first I thought it was spray from the tire wet the dealer put on, but after washing it twice, that isn't it and wouldn't explain the rear of the car getting it. Exhaust maybe, but doesn't explain the side panels behind the wheels. Any thoughts? I've been thinking about getting the mud flaps to try and help prevent this.

Thanks,
Joe

It's tire dust. Where do you suppose the rubber goes that wears off tires? Lot's more comes off of new tires as they initially wear.

That makes sense for behind the wheel, but it is coating the area near the license plate as well... Never seen this happen on my cars before.

I thought the same when I first saw this on this and other cars. Cars are designed now to flow the air around the back to help fuel mileage through improved aero. This creates an area on the rear of the car that collects dust. My Corvette (and G8) does this. The tire dust level will lessen after your tires wear a bit.

Sounds like a good reason to light them up once or twice. Thank you all for your input.

I noticed it too - Limited Slip Differential and hard turns at stop signs, etc.

I figured it out!! they made it for your convenience so that all the dust on your car collects in the same place so all you have to do is get a cloth and wipe one spot and WALLA your car is clean ;)

My RX8 was just fine until I lowered her.

You wouldn't believe how much dirt I get back there after a few miles.

There is a low pressure area created behind the trunk, that causes the dust to settle there and there is not much wind to blow it off, this is due to the aerodynamics and lip spoiler. I noticed it also. It could also be statically charged for some reason (the rear bumper) causing it to collect behind the rear wheels and on the back.
