Does anyone know or have heard of side exhaust for these cars. I just love side exhaust, similar to what was on the Concept Coupe, and would seriously be interested in adding one to my car when I get it (Camaro :wink2: .) I did a search and didn't find anything, and tried Google'ing it and couldn't find anything either...

I don't understand, you are getting a new model Camaro, but you are asking about putting a side exit G8 exhaust on it?

And no, the G8 hasn't had an aftermarket side exit exhaust created for it yet, that I know of..

I was thinking it would be a neat addition if you managed to conquer all of the heat problems and didn't set your door sills on fire everytime you took it for a drive.

I'm not sure how side exhaust would look on a sedan, but if I can remember I'll Photoshop the Coupe 60's side exits onto a G8 ans post it up here.

I'm curious to the age group here...

I'm not sure about the laws where you are from but in NC you can't have your exhaust dump before the passenger cabin ends. I looked into it when I has the Camaro because I wanted true duals to dump right before the axle and I was told that I couldn't do it "legally".

My guess is it would look something like this. Doesn't look that ricey to me. looks like V8 supercars have always looked. Mean as hell.

Sorry, yes I'm getting a Camaro, and am finding a wealth of information here, and am considering this car as an alternative. I'm asking simply because at this point I'm thinking because of the platform sharing that what fits a G8 has a good chance at fitting Camaro, for the most part. I know I've seen side exhaust on GTOs along with molding rocker moldings, so I was just wondering if there was something like that for your cars yet.

I'm 30, regarding the age group. What, no one can remember side pipes on 'Vettes and Baldwin Motion Camaro and Chevelles?

Regarding the state laws, you got me... However, I've seen plenty of Roush Mustangs with the side exhaust and have never heard of a problem. I know that I've seen Cobra Rs here too and, like the Roushs, never heard of a problem. I think because it exits from under the car, there isn't a problem, but I haven't seen a vehicle code that really says yes or no. I know that I've read that exhausts can't exit between something like 12-inches to like 24-inches off the ground, but that's about it until you start getting into headers and cats' and such.

I just like the look on the Concept Car and have just always been a fan of that exhaust setup. I like the idea of being able to hear the engine just out my window too.

Any other ideas or advise?

Maybe this is...

I don't think its a ricey thing to do, HOWEVER, there are some serious things to consider. The viper system runs the pipes under the rocker panel, which means you get burned on your calves getting out of the car. The Roush/Saleen/Shelby systems go ALL the way to the back of the car, turn around, and come back to the side. Saving you from burning yourself, killing performance (probably not by much though). All of these cars are LEGAL, but only by coming from the factory like this. In Massachusetts, the exhaust must exit behind the passenger compartment. This more or less means, in a car, its behind the axle/wheels. In a truck, you can dump it out the side, legally. In a el camino, you can also dump before the wheels (they also came with factory side pipes).

if it is done well it will look fine...

and to the post about exhaust voiding your warranty... only the exhaust warranty will be voided, but any aftermarket exhaust you buy should come with a warranty anyways...

When they tested that Viper on top gear, it set the door sills on fire. Granted most people wont drive the car like they did, but its a point of consideration. Especially if you are spitting flames out of them like those Holdens. :)

Cool; thanks for the information and insight. That is a good point about the kids too, as I have a 12-month old. He'll be burning his little legs in no time, LOL.

Keep 'em coming!

Ignore RacerX and his comments. He's only here to stir up trouble and talk about how much better than the G8 his million horsepower Jaguar that could take turns at 500mph was.

Actually, that car is ugly as sin, and moderately ricey looking.

:iagree:

Side pipes are the last thing I'd need. I'd be burning my shin on them or setting the plastic on fire in no time. O.k. so I'll never get invited to dancing with the stars...or anything else involving coordination.:banghead:

They were cool on certain cars in the 60's and 70's, but went the way of steamroller rear tires as far as I'm concerned.

Ooo yeah, zoomies. Hmm...

I like the steamrollers; tell that to the 315-35-17s I have on my car now and the bigger 335-35-17s I've had on my car.
