99-LS1-SS 06-11-2008, 07:45 PM Looks very good. That's what it should have looked like from the factory. How much did you lower it and do you have any clearance issues now?
tgb321 06-11-2008, 07:59 PM I must be getting old because even though I love your car, it's kind of low too low.
LongDriving 06-11-2008, 08:06 PM Looks very good. That's what it should have looked like from the factory.
I agree. That looks amazing! The debadging looks good too.
tgb321 06-11-2008, 08:12 PM Wheelspacers in the back. .5 inches.
Down about .7 in front and 1.2 in the rear. There are other springs for the rear that don't lower it much at all, if any.
Spacers. I've thought about them. Not sure. i have 18" wheels with better offset for my winter tires. Maybe next year I'll replace the 19s.
G8 Ray 06-11-2008, 08:21 PM Looks almost as good as the red. :)
j/k looks great.
tgb321 06-11-2008, 08:23 PM other springs eh? In my opinion these wheels look great.
G8addict 06-11-2008, 08:54 PM I officially hate you and you suck, no really you do! :)
omegafiler 06-11-2008, 09:18 PM I must be getting old because even though I love your car, it's kind of low too low.
Yeah, just a bit. I'd prob stick with stock ride height for the G8. Although I have lowered cars in the past. But hey, it's a G8, so still looks good! :driving:
99-LS1-SS 06-12-2008, 06:35 AM Do you have clearance issues now?
Do you have clearance issues now?
None. At least not with the stock 19" wheels and tires. Looks like plenty of room.
slenhert 06-12-2008, 03:03 PM It really looks great lowered!
SRG963 06-12-2008, 05:16 PM I like it
DollarBill 06-12-2008, 07:20 PM Not that its ugly, and not that im criticizing u, but why does everyone seem to wanna lower this certain car? To me this isnt the type of car to get lowered since this is a full size. I'd expect that from a small or eurosport car, but this is an american(somewhat...:aus_flag: )full size sedan.
99-LS1-SS 06-13-2008, 03:35 PM I am not one to lower a family sedan but I think the amount that he lowered his car is acceptable. If it was slammed it would be a different story. If it's lowered for functionality over form and it doesn't compromise the ride and usability of the car then I say go for it.
tgb321 06-13-2008, 03:48 PM I don't think that it's possible to lower a car without having the ride quality deteriorate.
IMO, GM puts them too high to begin with. Look at a number of European sport sedans. I think manyt are closer to my lowered G8 than not.
If by ride quality you mean insolated with not precise road feel or feedback maybe suspension changes aren't for everyone. I've lowered 3 cars, a GTI, a GTP Comp G and now the G8GT. In all three cases I replaced the OEM dampers with higher quality dampers when I replace the springs. The GTI got Koni and Suspension Tech, the GP got GXP Bilsteins and Eibachs and the G8 got a Pedders system. Both the GP and the G8 rode better, IMO, than stock. The GTI was adjustable and handled better but was boarderline too firm if the adjustment was set to best control the springs. The dampers are so much better than OEM that they can better control the car without being harsh. Just firmer with much better road feel and control. The Pedders is by far the best for handling, feedback , control and compliance. I guess it is because they designed the spring rate, damping rate and drop as a complete system and also installed new suspension bushing to remove unwanded suspension deflection. The drop in the from is about .7" and in the rear 1.2". It took 1/2" of rake out of the stance but still left some rake. It wasn't lowered for looks as much as it was to get the center of gravity down.
Hey, some like it, some don't. No problem. I was after M series handling without being Audi S-series harsh. I think I got it AND I think it looks better than when its stance looked like a 4-dr Cobalt, no offence to Cobalt owners.
I don't think that it's possible to lower a car without having the ride quality deteriorate.
You should find a Pedders dealer and drive a Pedderized G8. You might be very surprised. Everybody on this board with a Pedders Street or Track system says the same positive things about the handling and the ride. I'm not saying if you hit a pothole you won't feel it. You will. You can't have good road feel and a numb, over-isolated suspension at the same time. Drivers need to choose what is important to them and act accordingly. If they like Buick ride-quality, more power to them. If they like m-series road feel and performance, more power to them. Their money, their choice, their car.
I would never say what is right for me is right for everybody else.
Andrew 06-30-2008, 05:48 PM The car looks great!!
The car looks great!!
Thanks.
locrzng888 07-01-2008, 06:38 PM I like it and if you haven't had a lowered car with the correct springs then you should try one. My 300 rode better then stock and felt more stable then stock. I would buy the pedders if they lowered the front a little more and brought the rear up a 1/2 or so. My 300 with the eibachs was a great ride and I'm hoping the pedders has something simular to what I want coming soon. They have a bunch of product on ships heading our way and I'm ready to change mine if they have the right set up I'm looking for, great look and I agree that gm should have taken care of this in the beginning. Maybe not the v6 version, but, the gt should have been lower in the front for sure.
it looks great..
put some tints on thosee windows..and ur set...
third_shift|studios 07-30-2008, 10:06 AM how does it ride on the stock shocks? Notice any negative attributions now that you've compressed the shocks more?
G8>550i 07-30-2008, 04:22 PM The G8's low enough, IMHO. But I'd like to lower the wife's Buick Enclave an inch.
foreosu 07-30-2008, 04:30 PM The G8's low enough, IMHO. But I'd like to lower the wife's Buick Enclave an inch.
That would look sharp. Almost sitting like an Infiniti FX35
VEE SSV 07-30-2008, 06:58 PM Looks perfect mate! I wouldnt worry about anything.. she'd ride and handle even better and does look the part!.. one of the first things we have done to the G8 variant here the SS/V commodore is to lower it some.. looks like 4wd from the factory! :)
IMO, it looks petter lowered abit. It is about .7" FT and 1.2" RR. The ride is firm but not harsh. Everything feels well controlled. The lean in turns has been reduced. I have not installed the Pedders sway bars yet but expect to reuce lean further when I do. The pedders gas dampers seem well matched to the new springs. With a lowered suspension you have less total travel so big bumps get you into the stiff part of the springs sooner than OEM but I have yet to hit the bump stops. I like the lowered look and love the handling and ride. There is much better road feel. You can't have your cake and eat it too but this comes as close as I have found.
joemac 08-02-2008, 10:13 AM I don't think that it's possible to lower a car without having the ride quality deteriorate.
It's possible if you keep the aftermarket spring rate at or close to the OEM and have a set of matching shocks.
Typical things that kill ride quality when lowering:
Spring rates increased in substantial figures.
Not matching the correct shock to the correct spring.
08G8GT 08-02-2008, 11:52 AM I agree. That looks amazing! The debadging looks good too.
What debadging all he took off was the Pontiac if your going to debadge take them all off if they don;t know what it is then leave them guessing and tell them it has a V6 lol only thing left is front arrow gm square gone too http://i288.photobucket.com/albums/ll171/rfiguera2210/DSC00398-1.jpg
