: NOS?? Anyone....anyone??
JAWDRPNG8 06-12-2008, 02:22 PM So Looking at options here....the real power adders like the Maggie are going to be over $8K with parts and install....Thats not workable for me this year....SO I am considering NOS....any one else??
ANyone have thoughts...comments, working vendor kits, pricing or just general advice on NOS for the G8??
JTSnooks 06-12-2008, 02:24 PM NOS is overpriced but good quality. Personally I'd look into other brands before just deciding on NOS.

My bet (I'll lay $100 on this) is that he's referring generically to Nitrous Oxide and not the name brand Nitrous Oxide Systems (NOS). The correct term to abbreviate, is NO2. He's a product of Fast&Furious.

agreed!
I'm a big fan of NX myself. I do have a dry kit sitting in my garage I could probably install :wink2:

With how rich these things run from the factory, I think its almost safe to say a dry system would work pretty well.
A buddy of mine has a NOS system sitting around collecting dust. I'm quite tempted to give it a shot :)
Gfrom8 06-12-2008, 05:15 PM I'm am actually thinking about spray, about 100-150 shot. I'd bet the g8's would run like hell with it. At least a mid 12 in the 1/4?
Blackdevil77 06-12-2008, 07:57 PM I don't know much about cars or NO2 but I know how it works in cars and how it makes them faster. Somethin about it doesn't make me feel to....comfortable for the sake of my engine

If Nitrous is installed properly it will NOT cause any engine damage, period.

a car in NJ ran a 12.2 with a 100 shot and tune...

LOL um ya funny...but not a product of fast and furious...
The gear heads I ran with in the late 80's used NOS as a generic term or Spray when talking car speak (pre vin diesel ) I write like I talk...I guess and saying NO2 verbally sounded wierd..Plus NOS the brand was THE BRAND in the day, I saw on approx. 90% of sprayed cars in the 80s :)
I have bad spelling / grammer as well but it's good enough for you to get the point. Half the time Im at work , typing this crap..and trying to look like I am actually working . Please no spell checks
Back to the point of the thread...
Anyone have comments / advice / suggetions on wet vs dry vs
cost vs performace
realiablity vs x factor??
Heres your $100 - plus a few extras for your attention to detail to point out N02.

G8 Ray 06-13-2008, 02:26 PM I don't think my G8 will ever be bottle fed.
I spank this baby way to hard for that. LOL
Russo 06-13-2008, 03:44 PM the only problem i have with nitrous is getting a 10lb bottle filled for $40+ every week...
Red-Rocket 06-13-2008, 04:32 PM It's N20, not NO2.
JAWDRPNG8 06-13-2008, 05:57 PM It's N20, not NO2.
Daym, I thought I had alot of time on my hands ...jk
We all stand corrected.
Anyone have a link to a Kit yet for our G8s??
What else besides a High Performance fuel pump and tune would we need to get this reliable..but more importantly safe for extened usage??
Atlas 06-13-2008, 06:23 PM It's N20, not NO2.
nope you are still wrong, its NAWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWSSSS...
wreckwriter 06-13-2008, 06:29 PM nope you are still wrong, its NAWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWSSSS...
N2O
wreckwriter 06-13-2008, 06:31 PM I do think think this needs further investigation. Surely one of our sponsor speedshops knows what we would need?
Atlas 06-13-2008, 06:58 PM N2O
hello wreckwriter, meet my friend joke... some shops have done NAWWWWSSSS, quite successfully... like i said, a guy in NJ ran a 12.2 with a 100 shot and a tune...
gbcop 06-13-2008, 10:37 PM :burnout::DI'm not beyond N20 myself. There is a Impreza WRX running around my neck of the woods which I personally think would take me or be pretty damn close. I'm personally intrested in a N20 kit for the extra "OH S$#$" when needed
Impreza WRX's aren't punks to begin with and I do believe this car would either be neck and neck or would be me.
AUSI-isf-KLR 06-14-2008, 01:39 AM go over to ls1tech.com and the nitrous section and spend some time reading the FAQ. Then take some time and read some general posts in the forum.
Flash99 06-14-2008, 03:45 AM He said NOS, LOL reminds me of when I went street racing, all the uninformed F&F tools gathering in parking lots talking about NOS this NOS that with all different brands of kits, not knowing the difference. Just a little "Uninformed" but I expect this every now and again.
G8ter 06-14-2008, 12:00 PM Guys here is the below link showing what Nos will do .. Chevrolete Lumina SS V8 6.0 in the midlle east (Oman)
(Chevrolete Lumina SS in the midlle east, Pontiac G8 in the US & ve commodore in Australia << exactly the same engine but small differences in the shape<< donno what strategy GM is using)
Supra Singal turbo and lots more modifications done on the engine Vs Lumina SS with Nos

HANNlBAL KING 06-14-2008, 12:18 PM You could probably get away with a 100 shot on these cars and have years of fun with that. As long as all of the safety precautions are taken you don't have anything to worry about. :wink2:
neelnug 06-14-2008, 01:16 PM It's N20, not NO2.
Its too bad its not NO2. We could just pump our exhaust right back into the engine for that...

I am in no way an expert on Nitrous and didnt claim to be...I am looking for advice and opinions for it on the G8. Are you proclaming to be the "informed" on the matter of nitrous? I didnt see any real knowledge from your post attempt to flame someone from trying to get some sincere advice and help. Cheap shots at someone you dont know make you look like the tool
h3llphyre 06-16-2008, 01:47 PM It's N20, not NO2.
yup, i'm an idiot. mistyped that one :)

I don't see why a system for the vette wouldn't work, especially if you inject at the throttle body. The only specific part is the injection (plate in this case). otherwise, its generic solenoids and whatnot.

WRONG!
Premature wear.
97DARKKNIGHT 06-17-2008, 05:27 AM i already have the kit waiting for my G8 and i havent even gotten the car yet. i am borrowing it off of my other car that has a dual stage on it. its a TNT system. im using the TNT system because from how it responds on the dyno versus my NX system it puts more to the wheels than whats rated.ie:100 shot on a stock vehical got 104 to the wheels. My first mod
97DARKKNIGHT 06-17-2008, 05:43 AM oh by the way. i dont know how to start a new thread but i just got the latest GM High Tech Performance and they have 2 articles on the G8. 1 they ran stock and then tuned it then ran it again. the other is about tunetimes 12.0 @115mph with a 100 shot.:judge:

Cool. I just subscribed. Hopefully they start me out with that issue!

tiffer 06-17-2008, 06:49 AM I just finished installing the cheapest generic nos wet system + the nos tps/window switch. Put 100 shot jets in and will hopefully try it tonight and let you know...
Squeezed the switches into the ashtray - looks well trick:
tiffer 06-18-2008, 02:44 PM Ok the 100 shot is slightly dissapointing - it definately gets things going, but feels more like v-tec kicking in in a honda as opposed to the rush you would get from a turbo. I don't want to go bigger as going through nitrous faster than underwear isn't too practical unless you own a chemical plant.
I installed a Gen-TT twin turbo kit on another Lumina (G8) a while back which is way stronger than my nitrous.
So I guess I will be going this route soon. Bigger initial outlay but awesome power which is always on tap.

Have you ran the quater times with the spray yet?
what system 100 shot did you use?
tiffer 06-19-2008, 05:11 PM I have never even run a stock quarter in this car yet - must get to the track sometime. But went to some street races tonight and ran neck on neck with a heavily modded scooby which apparently had 275 awkw - he got a big fright. The kit is the cheapest generic wet nos powershot one made in mexico. They cost around R 3000 ($375) here. It's basically a 10lb bottle, 2 solenoids, 1 fogger2 and the braided hoses with an arm switch and throttle microswitch thrown in (which you won't use cos i strongly recommend the nos tps/window switch $150? I also had to get an extension to the nos line made (as i mounted the bottle in the spare wheel well), and another short braided line made to run from the fuel rail check port to the fuel solenoid.
A bottle warmer would help but a hot water bottle did the trick tonight.
