no, we didnt get any 08s, the bumpers didnt meet transport canadas standards...so we get the 09s nice and early....thank god!!! im getting so anxious! mines 10-15 days out yet..black on black, gt, prem, sprt, sroof

If they couldn't think of anything more imaginative than a storage compartment, I almost wish they had kept the gauges...so those neat, custom, analog ones could go in that spot.

its not even a storage compartment...i set a CD case up on the "shelf" and it hardly fits without falling down...i would call it a shelf much more than a compartment lol

This is another stupid thing GM did - good for me.:D
There's less than 2 inches of space behind the atari gauges. Not much of a storage compartment. Worse comes to worst, you can always install the analog gauges I'm working on. Even if they mess up the trim panel for the storage, it's only $80-90 to get a new one.

i would rather suffer through the ataris then get those tacky gauges in that pic, sorry but they need a serious design makeover, not to mention the wires and gauges your going to have to run behind the dash to make them actually functional...for 90 bucks you could get something alot better than THAT

I checked a VE SS today that was manufactured this month and it still has the Atari gauges. I am also waiting for the thread from a G8 09 owner who wants the Atari gauges as a mod..........:wink2:

The display is not going away it just has different graphics for 2009. GM already released photos of it way back when they unveiled the G8 GXP.

They are definitely gone on the G8 GT, not new graphics. There will be a storage binnacle there apparently. There is at least one story that quotes the Pontiac manager. He was pushing to get HSV style gauges in that space, but that hasn't happened at this point. There has been nothing specific on the GXP beyond the photos and the auto show quotes. It may even be possible that the GXP gets HSV style gauges since it has not gone into production yet.

Even a smarter idea.... Why didn't GM just make it so that the driver can switch the Atari display on or off whenever they want to?:dunno: I haven't sat in a G8 yet so I have no idea how annoying the Atari display really is. I might be one of the few that actually like it idk. :whine: Lol!

Atari guages cracks me up as a former Atari owner eons ago. Frankly though Atari had better graphics than what is in the center stack display. The G8 display is a little more "Pong" if you ask me. ;)

I agree the Atari gauges look outdated, but honestly, I really don't even notice them much anymore.
Removing them and replacing them with nothing is just plain dumb! I would have rather seen Holden/Pontiac remove the gauges, and put the air vents in their place. That way it would free up more room on the center stack for a proper NAV screen.
But leaving a blank spot that looks like something should be there is retarded! Hell, even my 70 GTO without a/c has a blank that at least says "Pontiac" where the dash vent should be!

V6 = the same display as last year for the V6. No need to change it.
GT = the upgraded display presented on the G8 GXP concept car.
GXP = analog gauges from the Vauxhall VXR8 model.

I'm not the type to b**** around about small stuff but honestly I am kinda disappointed that all there will be to show in replacement of the Atari display for the 2009 GT is an empty hole in the dash. That's bs. GM could've been a little bit more innovative than that.

I agree 100% that is what they should have done for the 09's, but for the GXP, we are still not sure what they will actually do for production.....
