h3llphyre 06-12-2008, 05:39 PM Which means the V6 doesn't get a radio display?
Small Dealer 06-12-2008, 05:42 PM ... over all i'm happy they are gone but kind of bummed if it's just another storage compartment...
Just another storage area...........

GT and G8 with Comfort and Sound Package top of center stack eliminates voltmeter/oil display and becomes a storage tray

So.... Canada got the 08's and 09's at the same time?
HamillsG8 06-12-2008, 05:53 PM no, we didnt get any 08s, the bumpers didnt meet transport canadas standards...so we get the 09s nice and early....thank god!!! im getting so anxious! mines 10-15 days out yet..black on black, gt, prem, sprt, sroof
Got 8? 06-12-2008, 05:57 PM Any pics of the "storage area"...
Mr. Sandog 06-12-2008, 05:59 PM If they couldn't think of anything more imaginative than a storage compartment, I almost wish they had kept the gauges...so those neat, custom, analog ones could go in that spot.
HamillsG8 06-12-2008, 06:01 PM its not even a storage compartment...i set a CD case up on the "shelf" and it hardly fits without falling down...i would call it a shelf much more than a compartment lol
it would be like you painting over your atari gauges in black...thats all, its just bare black instead of the brightass display

BWAHAHAHAHA!!! GM engineers at their best. They should have imported some Holden engineers to make that change.
Rob Moser 06-12-2008, 06:51 PM Anybody want to trade their storage tray for my Atari gauges????
Probably will be worth millions in a decade or so....

holden dropped those gauges too...so who knows who designed it lol
unixadm 06-12-2008, 10:45 PM I love 'em! Atari Pride baby!
This is another stupid thing GM did - good for me.:D
There's less than 2 inches of space behind the atari gauges. Not much of a storage compartment. Worse comes to worst, you can always install the analog gauges I'm working on. Even if they mess up the trim panel for the storage, it's only $80-90 to get a new one.

BBBBGXP 06-13-2008, 12:09 AM When you going to have those all ready to go dede?
HamillsG8 06-13-2008, 12:31 AM i would rather suffer through the ataris then get those tacky gauges in that pic, sorry but they need a serious design makeover, not to mention the wires and gauges your going to have to run behind the dash to make them actually functional...for 90 bucks you could get something alot better than THAT

if you can make it UNDER $600 i'l buy it from you
not to mention design is same as G8 speedo
http://www.g8board.com/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=815&stc=1&d=1208720958
and gauges are fully functional, if you cannot run 3 extra wires it’s just too bad

HamillsG8 06-13-2008, 01:10 AM sorry dede, i didnt realize you had done them or i wouldnt have been so harsh...lol
guess they arent my cup of tea, not that it matters cuz i got an 09 so i dont have anything to cover up anyways...again sorry for cuttin down the design
I checked a VE SS today that was manufactured this month and it still has the Atari gauges. I am also waiting for the thread from a G8 09 owner who wants the Atari gauges as a mod..........:wink2:

SWEET! Limited edition Atari Gauges.
Exactly what I was thinking!

Did someone say Atari?
TriShield 06-15-2008, 02:46 PM The display is not going away it just has different graphics for 2009. GM already released photos of it way back when they unveiled the G8 GXP.

Note the new graphics on the display.

They are definitely gone on the G8 GT, not new graphics. There will be a storage binnacle there apparently. There is at least one story that quotes the Pontiac manager. He was pushing to get HSV style gauges in that space, but that hasn't happened at this point. There has been nothing specific on the GXP beyond the photos and the auto show quotes. It may even be possible that the GXP gets HSV style gauges since it has not gone into production yet.

Attorneyguy 06-15-2008, 06:51 PM As a 2008 owner, I'm going to proudly KEEP the Atari display. I may even add an Atari sticker!
Now if I could figure out a way to play Spy Hunter on the main screen, that would be soooo sweet!

LOL. That's a good idea (both). Time to start tinkering... Although, screw skyhunter. I'm talking Pitfall.

EC-Ryder 06-15-2008, 07:19 PM I've got mine disconnected to save the bulbs for when they become hot collector items 20yrs from now...
Yeah! right!
LOL!
I would have gladly traded them for a real arm rest on my cloth interior like the one on the leather seat option.

Well at least for it to play the spy hunter music. :)

Half of the stuff AutoBlog posts should be taken with a grain of salt. The photography of the 2009 interior is straight from GM's media website and with no inkling the gauges are going away at Holden I wouldn't hold my breath for that change happening here.

The quotes I read was from Motor Trend's blog. They are directly quoting Al Oppenheiser from GM, not theorizing. Here is a link to the blog entry: http://blogs.motortrend.com/6257181/new-cars/pontiac-g8-tweak-for-2009-bye-bye-battery-meter/index.html
And because they may not go away at Holden does not prevent them from going away on the G8.

Perhaps GM would be a better source for information:

The GXP will probably end up with the center stack show in the pictures released at the New York Auto Show GXP introduction.
G8 GXP (Late Availability)

New center stack gauge readouts
HardEight 06-16-2008, 10:36 AM they probably just disconnected the gauges and left them there, lol.
Rue_G8GT 06-16-2008, 01:33 PM Even a smarter idea.... Why didn't GM just make it so that the driver can switch the Atari display on or off whenever they want to?:dunno: I haven't sat in a G8 yet so I have no idea how annoying the Atari display really is. I might be one of the few that actually like it idk. :whine: Lol!

Just like the Holden gauge pod harness just taped up within the dash of GTOs.

Thanks for the links. I like the display on the GXP.
Orbit Orange 06-16-2008, 03:28 PM Atari guages cracks me up as a former Atari owner eons ago. Frankly though Atari had better graphics than what is in the center stack display. The G8 display is a little more "Pong" if you ask me. ;)
We'll see who gets this reference. :D

Its actually more like Nintendo's Virtual Boy...
macgto 07-01-2008, 07:48 AM I agree the Atari gauges look outdated, but honestly, I really don't even notice them much anymore.
Removing them and replacing them with nothing is just plain dumb! I would have rather seen Holden/Pontiac remove the gauges, and put the air vents in their place. That way it would free up more room on the center stack for a proper NAV screen.
But leaving a blank spot that looks like something should be there is retarded! Hell, even my 70 GTO without a/c has a blank that at least says "Pontiac" where the dash vent should be!
mac
Rue_G8GT 07-01-2008, 09:10 AM ^ I agree 100%
Here's how I would've done it for the 2009 G8s if I was in charge of the development and design.
V6 = the same display as last year for the V6. No need to change it.
GT = the upgraded display presented on the G8 GXP concept car.
GXP = analog gauges from the Vauxhall VXR8 model.
I'm not the type to b**** around about small stuff but honestly I am kinda disappointed that all there will be to show in replacement of the Atari display for the 2009 GT is an empty hole in the dash. That's bs. GM could've been a little bit more innovative than that.
need4spd 07-01-2008, 11:23 AM ^ I agree 100%

I agree 100% that is what they should have done for the 09's, but for the GXP, we are still not sure what they will actually do for production.....

There is no space behind that blank space for anything of that size.

slowerthanu 07-23-2009, 03:29 PM Well, I have an 09.5 GXP and it is a blank storage space. In fact, I was unaware that the Atari gauges had been there prior and I told my wife that it looked like an asinine place to put a useless storage space.
I may put analogs in there some day.

Hrmm first person I've EVER heard say that, especially since these are VERY close to the gauges the GXP was supposed to come with (except these wont burn your retinas lol)

Im not a big fan of digital gauges. I will take analog over digital anyday.
Derek98z 07-23-2009, 03:52 PM Ya, so glad the 09s don't have those gauges. Just terriblly ugly
