: What would you do in this situation?
wreckwriter 06-12-2008, 05:29 PM Here is a chronology of my experience ordering an exhaust system from a well-known vender:
5/30- Placed order on web, received confirmation email.
6/4- Receive email that credit card did not go through. Called bank, they had flagged it as possible fraud due to billing from outside U.S. Got that straightened out. Was told by vender that my system would be arriving that week because someone in my state had received one by mistake and they would redirect.
6/5- Received UPS tracking number by email. Status showed as "billing information received".
6/9- Status still showed as "billing information received". Called vender. First person told me she would check and get back to me. Six or so hours later I called again. Was told that the person who got the wrong shipment had not yet taken the item to UPS; was told vender would call them and call me back. Received no call or email.
6/10- Sent 3 emails to vender, with no response, including offering to pay extra to have UPS go pick up the item. Status still shows as "billing information received". Finally sent email from contact form on site containing most of the info you see here. No response.
6/11- Called again, first person told me she would check and call me back within 30 minutes. She didn't. Called yet again. this time I was told I had 2 options, cancel or wait. They would not call the third party, they would not send UPS for pickep; cancel or wait with no ETA.
6/12- No change, no contact from vender. Status still shows as "billing information received".
What would you guys do? I am REALLY pissed off at this point. I realise that this is not completely the vender's fault but I feel it is their responsibility to at least make some attempt to un**** the situation and to keep me informed that they are at least trying. They have done nothing and don't even appear to think they have any responsibility to do so.
My options:
1- I can cancel the order and, presumably, get my money back. I can then order from a reputable shop who has stock but, including shipping I will lose almost $300 on the deal (over the original order) and still have to wait a week for my system simply due to distance.
2- I can sit and wait for the original item to ship. But how long do I wait? What if I am sitting here next Thursday with no change?
Opinions please!
h3llphyre 06-12-2008, 05:43 PM Patience... They're waiting for the person it was shipped to, to reship. Its no in their control. So, you either WAIT or cancel the order. I assume once its shipped, they'll change the status online. If you can't wait, then just cancel it and order elsewhere (at a more expensive rate it seems). Doesn't seem like a big deal to me.

Thanks for the reply. I added a poll and I took the liberty of voting for #1 based on your post
Rob@WretchedMS 06-12-2008, 06:47 PM Sounds like things may be out of their control, and they are doing what they can.
Give them a bit more time.
G8 Ray 06-12-2008, 08:53 PM Check with your credit card company to see how long you have to file a claim. Assuming you can wait that long.
If you can't wait, cancel.
wreckwriter 06-13-2008, 07:40 AM Thanks for the responses guys. I know I tend to be impatient, I will take this advice to heart.

This is the way to go. Make sure you don't wait out your options.
I don't entirely understand your explanation about if the vendor states that they shipped and it went somewhere else or what, but the "billing information received" status would be very concerning to me. The status should change once it reaches the first UPS terminal regardless if it went the wrong place. I would contact UPS and ask them if that is true (assuming that things have supposedly gone that far). If they haven't actually shipped the order then they probably do not have the product and they are waiting for it to come in and stringing you along (or worse yet, filing chapter 11 or chapter 13).
I'm a little like you and get nervous on these deals where someone is not being truthful. If it were me and I didn't get a solid answer today (since it is Friday), I would pull the plug. The fact that you are have to waited such a long time for answers would be enough incentive for me.

The vender normally ships directly from the factory in California. In this case they had mistakenly sent the wrong system (he ordered something other than a G8 system but got G8) to someone in my home state prior to my order coming in. Rather than ship mine from the factory they decided to just have this guy ship the one he had (but didn't need) to me. Problem lies with the fact that the guy has not yet taken the box to UPS.

I follow now. Sorry.
Hmmm, quite the conundrum. I still don’t like the customer service. I am assuming that is why you are saving $300.
I would probably wait a little longer as long as I can do a charge back with my CC company if things get too hairy.
wreckwriter 06-13-2008, 10:35 AM The thing that really bothers me, which I don't understand at all, is why they will not just have UPS go pick it up.

Weird! I ordered mine some time ago talked to the lady you did. (kind of acts put off??) and she didn't call me back right away either but the next day they emailed me that it shipped and then later she called and left the tracking number on my phone. I am going to get it sometime next week.
I would hold out a bit longer. They are shipping them as I have a Fed Ex tracking number. :)
Rob@WretchedMS 06-13-2008, 10:41 AM It may be the people that have it now that are the problem
wreckwriter 06-13-2008, 10:43 AM It may be the people that have it now that are the problem
totally agreed but it still seems to me that the vender should at least try to influence the situation.
G8Smitty 06-13-2008, 11:29 AM To me, the vendor should ship out and new one regardless of who has it now. It should be their problem to get it back, not yours.
Unfortunatley these are the problems we have to endure when shopping for savings.

This seems to make the most sense from a customer service point of view. Plus, the vendor could have sent for a call tag from the other person. Then UPS can pick it at the other guys location & get it back to the vendor. Sadly, that just means that the vendor would have to eat the return shipping cost.
wreckwriter 06-13-2008, 03:31 PM I decided to ask them one more time what the plan was. They are going to ship me another one out of the factory.
GR8 Vino 06-14-2008, 07:47 AM I know your torment. I was the 3rd person to order the new Magna Flow exhaust set up. I just received mine last night. I am installing it this morning. My credit card was billed on 5-14 and they said it would be delivered in about 5-7 working days. After about 10 days I sent email and left message to find out what was going on. They said that some how the factory had misplaced my order and they were trying to get things straightened out and get another order placed and system shipped. So all total, it took 1 day short of a month for me to get mine. And of all days it was lucky Friday 13th. Patience is not my virtue either, but I think it will be worth it especially for the money that was saved. Good luck with yours, hopefully soon.

Wow, same vender I have no doubt. Glad you finally got it, I know it will sound great!

Oh yeah, same vendor. Finally got around to getting mine installed last night with the help of my son. Very straight forward install and very clean. Biggest suggestion is to make sure and keep all pipes loose fit so you can turn and twist and slide to get great fit on drivers and passengers side the same. After all of the comments about cutting 1/2" off of drivers side to make look like passenger's side, but getting the "don't cut pipes" from Magna Flow and just sliding pipe fittings out every so slightly and readjusting the angles to make both look the same. Everything looks absolutely perfect as far as depth and being level. The sound is awesome. Not loud, just very low deep grumble at idle and I took it for a power drive on a side street to let the roar out.:driving: Did a little 55-60 cruising and virtually no drone at all. Magna Flow did a great job and for the money this system can't be beat. Hope you get yours soon Wreck. Let me know if you need any other hints about install.

hey, thanks much! The cut/don't cut thing is confusing. You did NOT cut, right? No issues with hangers not lining up?
unixadm 06-15-2008, 01:36 PM Well if you can get the system to go on without cutting, more power to you. I have installed over 12 cat back systems, and could not get around cutting the pipe on the drivers side. It simply would not slide any more forward, and I even marked the pipes with a sharpie to know I had full engagement of the slip joint. Perhaps a variation in the cars - I'm not sure. But the rear hangers were not even close. 5/8" hacksawed off the end of the drivers side mid pipe, it fit MUCH better. I would have preferred not to have cut anything, but after removing the pipes three different times, I saw no other choice. You can only rotate them so much and keep the tips from hitting opening at the back of the car.

That is exactly what I thought, was the slight variations in each car. I had planned on cutting off 1/2" based on what most of the others had said. But Magna Flow said to twist and shift the pipes apart that 1/2" towards the rear end and it should be fine. After 15 minutes or so of this and making sure they were level, they were identical. I guess I got lucky. Sometimes better to be lucky than good.

Usually I think. Thanks for the reply!

You can really only twist the mid pipe. I removed and installed the mid pipe with the muffler assembly around three different times. With varying degrees of rotation. No matter how I rotated the pipes, I could not get the system to line up. At the end of the day after cutting, the entire system is level side to side, and sticks out the same amount. The passenger side fell right into place - but no amount of cussing would get the drivers side to fit on my car. I wish I knew why, perhaps I'm stupid, I don't know. Since I have a Miller Dynasty 300DX TigRunner and a Miller Millermatic 350P, I figured if I did hack the pipe and it didn't work out, I was only five minutes of welding away in fixing it. :)
Nilla619 06-17-2008, 02:04 PM Someone please tell me your opinion on what you think i should do. I ordered a 2008 g8 gt but since the new ones are coming out right around the corner should i wait? thanks for all the help.

This is EXACTLY what should be done. The vendor screwed up and sent the wrong part to the wrong person so it IS their fault. Now, Im sure the guy who has the wrong part is in no hurry to return it, what the hell does he care? As much as that sucks, it really isnt his problem either. Vendor should have shipped you a new set the day you called to start this process. I would have been skeptical of the whole "re-route" scenario and told them to get lost. If this situation is not yet resolved, I would demand a new set be shipped express and that they credit you the shipping cost for the express service. If they wont do it, contact your CC company and dispute the chare, order from someone else.
wreckwriter 06-20-2008, 12:08 PM They have shipped the new one. FedEx says it will be here Monday.
At the start I probably would have balked had I realized they were counting on the third party to ship the item; I assumed it would be picked up by FedEx/UPS/Whatever.
I'm glad its finally on its way but I am very disappointed in how long it took.
wreckwriter 06-21-2008, 07:43 AM Want to hear a real pisser? Today the tracking shows "on vehicle for delivery" BUT the note says "scheduled for delivery next business day". So its sitting on a truck 20 miles from me and FedEx says no way I can get it today. Damn!
G8 Ray 06-22-2008, 08:03 AM LOL, go get it!
Glad this is almost over. I couldn't take another week. :)

I couldn't! The place is closed for the weekend. Its killing me but I'll have them tomorrow.

Not related to this thread, but Stryker Blue and Mavrick Silver are 2 reasons to wait for the 09's.
wreckwriter 06-23-2008, 05:01 PM Well, thankfully this situation is now a memory. Exhaust arrived today, apparently in good shape. It goes on Wed morning. Thanks much for all the support and for just listening to me bitch :)

wreckwriter 06-24-2008, 05:05 PM Its in the trunk (yes, it does fit in the trunk when taken out of the box) ready to head to installer first thing in the morning.
wreckwriter 06-25-2008, 08:45 AM It's on and sounds great. More details later.
GR8 Vino 06-25-2008, 10:02 PM It's on and sounds great. More details later.
Congrats Wreck. Believe me, it was well worth the wait. I love the sound at idle, a low grumble when accelarating and WOT is really nice, like a caged animal trying to get out of a cage:driving:. Cruising, can't really tell it is there. For my situation, it is perfect. I am scheduling a dyno in the next week or so to see if the few bolt on mods produce what it feels like they have. The one downside is we only have 91 octane in Idaho. So I will probably lose a few HP. But overall, this car is AWESOME!!
edmanet 07-26-2008, 05:56 PM Are you the person that bought StolenFox's jigs to make axlebacks ???
Sounds like things may be out of their control, and they are doing what they can.
Give them a bit more time.
Rob@WretchedMS 07-26-2008, 06:19 PM Yes, I should have something in a couple weeks, we are taking our time to make sure everything is perfect.
