We have a lot of people buying Kooks headers and skipping the X-pipe to save money or work with a catback like Borla. What we have found works great if you want to keep the cats is Kooks Camaro connections. Basically these connections are 11.5" long and include a ball and socket connector to connect to any Kooks header with a 3" collector. They also include Kooks high flow cats, rear O2 bungs, and end in a 2" run of 2.5" diameter pipe to build whatever you want off of. The PT# is 6513 OEMC

You can buy these here. If your buying them with headers, we also can discount them some.

OK, can you tell me how this would come together?

If I bought Kooks longtube headers AND this Kooks Camaro catted connection pipe, is the match-up and fitment to my Borla catback dead on or will I need to cut something, somewhere??

Thx.

Welding will be necessary.

Any info on how the Kooks Hi-Flow cats compare to Solo?

What is the substrate, and how are they rated?

I asked those questions about 3 months ago and even requested a pic looking inside the end of the Kooks and there was no response.

I also PM'd MD Speed today; let's see what happens.

I'd prefer to use all Kooks, as it's a matched bolt on set. But Solo goes into great detail explaining how they chose a special substrate, and that each cat can support like 500 hp or something.

I'd like to know if someone makes something that LOOKS like what is pictured in this thread, but is just a dummy cat. Emissions wise, most states the G8 would pass the emissions sniffer w/o cats. We just need a VISUAL look to physically SEE a cat.

I don't recall the Solo cats being rated on HP, but each cat is rated for something like a 6 liter engine. So 12 liter total. They are way over engineered. I think Kirk@VMS was considering using them for his upcoming turbo setup. Not sure. These seem to be quite a bit cheaper though and it would be nice to see what the substrate is made of. These would certainly be easier to use in a custom setup.

As noted, these are for custom exhausts. To make a Borla exhaust fit a G8 for instance, you have to address the ball and socket on the header, and then also cut some length off the Borla and do some custom fab to make them fit. There is a thread here somewhere on how that is done. These catted connections address the ball and socket issue, and include a cat..however there is still custom work in making them fit whatever catback you have. We have sold these to 3 G8 customers and had no complaints, so I am assuming the install was not that hard. As for the cats, they are the same ones Kooks use on their X-pipe. They are very high flow..you can see light through them.

The more I thought about this last night and laid it out on paper, it looks easier than I thought.

Kooks Long Tubes to
These Catted Pipes to
A Simple Fabbed Pipe on each side to
The Borla X-Pipe
No Cutting of the Borla necessary!

Here's why....

The Borla has one-piece front pipes that go from each Cat to the x-pipe.
These front pipes can be removed and replaced with the custom bent pipes.
You can save the original Borla front pipes in case you ever remove the headers.

I really like having this option to run Kooks Long Tubes with my Borla and NOT have to chop up the Borla!

It could work, however being on the internet..I really have no way of being sure. I would consult an exhaust shop.

I'm thinking of cutting up my solo cats and then using them with some kooks headers. If I decided to do that can you sell just the flanges that will mate up to the kooks? Doesn't make sense for me to buy more cats when I have some already that I can use, if I can get some flanges. It's going to be super tight, there is not much to where my mid muffler is located but it should work.
