: Key Comparison GTO to VE

I had an opportunity to compare the keys so here goes. GTO key, of course, on the left. Next is the VE standard key assembled, then pulled apart. Last is the flip key option which can be transferred to the standard transmitter. Best part is that the battery is replaceable.
I know, the pic could have been better.............next time though

Thanks for the post.

A better picture would be appreciated. I'm glad we will be getting a Flip Key option.

Got any closer pics of the VE keys? Those would be the ultimate upgrade for us with the VZ GTOs.

That is a long, slender key. I definitely see myself breaking that SOB off in my pocket.

How about a pic of the front of the teeth? It's safe to presume that the teeth of the keys for the VZ & VE are similar/same.

VZ & VE key blank's may have started life from the same cut of metal....but thats where the similarity ends. VZ (gto) blank has a minor shallow cut on the left and a deeper/wider cut on the right. VE blank has a minor shallow cut on the right. The VE key pattern is cut almost a 3rd longer than the VZ. Also, the VZ blank is removable as a metal blank, the VE blank is moulded to half the key head (non transmitter half as shown in the earlier post) and does not unscrew.

At least you can't say that I don't get an "A" for effort. I suppose what I'm really asking is, could a blank be cut with the VE flip-key but have the VZ key design for a specific car (based upon VIN #). That would be assuming that Holden keys start off as a solid pice of square & are cut down into the shape necessary. I'm sure the answer is no. The first problem is Holden probably wouldn't (even if they had the capability).

If I am reading you right you want to use a VE flip key on a GTO. I would say no if this is the case...transmitter issues.........the VE blank is 90 degrees to the VZ...ingnition cylinders are different.............uurrgghh:banghead:

I figured most of that. I'm a stubborn mule, so I would have continued to try until it fried my brain. It doesn't matter anymore. After looking at Holden, HSV, & GM media websites, I think I'm going to get a Ute...whenever they get here. Hell, you guys are still waiting for them. :gr_jest:

So the G8 key is the same as VE?

The key (metal part) is a "laser cut" that is factory-only reproducable (at least so far). My wife broke her key for my GTO and just the metal part cost me $65 to replace. They aren't fragile, but they can be broken. The wife wouldn't tell me how she did it. Probably prying open a can of beans for supper.

But the anti-theft system on the GTO (and now G8) is excellent. I tell people there are 2 ways to steal my car: steal the key and drive away, or winch it up on a truck and haul it off. You aren't going to hot wire it. And the insurance rates and statistics back that up.

Yes. But, Pontiac gives you 1 flip key & 1 non-flip key.

The fobs probably have blank pieces for the Commodores if they don't offer remote start. Otherwise, they are the same. Kind of like how the GTOs without power door locks have a blank panel & those with have a cutout for the button to come through. It's easier & less expensive to change those small plastic parts. I don't see the key fobs as much different.

yeh... just Holden Monaros don’t have button for power door lock ...

3 buttons on a VE commodore key...lock, unlock, trunk. There are no spaces or blanks left over.
Dede.......what do you mean about Monaros not having a button for power door lock?

I think he is referring to the '06 GTO having an "improvement" added to it. Pontiac made a lock/unlock button as standard where as the '04-'05 didn't have. To the best of our knowledge, the Holden didn't offer a button like that from the factory on the Monaro.

So how exactly would we go about getting a flip key for our GTO?

olly
04-10-2008, 03:44 AM
You won't, because it doesn't exist. However, we can work on a larger one if you feel that the GTO key is too small..............:gr_jest:

It would be a VERY large undertaking. Probably not worth the effort. It's probably not impossible, but the process would drive a man insane. :eyetwitch:
