Personally I like tens better for there quick solid base. 1 ten would be plenty and two would be awesome IMO. :)

I just ordered a 12" Alpine Type-R SWR-1242D DVC 4-ohm subwoofer a 1cf sealed box. I'm putting 500 watts RMS at 2 ohms into the sub. If it's too much, I'll turn it down. I'm going to pack the box with polyfill and call it a day. I do need to remove the rear seat and fix the package tray, because it rattles badly with the stock subs. I needed a way to find all of the squeaks and rattles in the interior, I figure this sub should help with that. lol

I can say that with the correct setup (2) 12's = too much for some. My sh@t pounds! (1) would be just fine to match the factory setup :)

I would say YES! If you put that in the car you will over power the rest of the system and just want to upgrade other parts of it. I just hooked up a 10w3 today that I'm pushing with 400 watts rms. This was a bit too much in my Honda civic but is just right in the G8. I would just get a 12w3 and a 250/1, then puchase an exhaust with the money you just saved.

The type R's are very good subs. My friend has one 12" type R in a vented box and it's louder than many of the dual 12" subs I hear not to mention it sounds damn good.

Ive been planning this for a while...but I did not have the G8. Now that I have it, you guys should be in for a treat.

eventually I will add suede inserts to my seats but that will be down the road.

I have 2 proposed locations for the 310. one is similar to what I did in my Jeep....The other would be like an add on panel.

And no, neither one is the oil guage or ash tray area.....well sort of.

+1 I just put in a Alpine type R 10" pushing 400w rms and it sounds awesome.

Since the G8's trunk is so big, the 13w7 might not be to bad, but the 12w7 might be better. The 13w7 takes 1500 watts rms and the 12w7 takes 1000 watts rms. The only thing you might want to consider is wieght. The 13w7 weighs 52 lbs plus the wieght of the box and th 12w7 weighs 45 lbs. You could go with the 13w6 which weighs 27lbs and takes 750 watts. You will notice a difference in handling with that much wieght. As far as accuracy goes, all of JL's subs are amazing in accuracy. There is another sub that I would suggest in this price range, the Morel Ultimo 12, it takes a 1000 watts rms and only weighs 15 lbs. It has won many awards as one of the best SQ subs and has great SPL too. You can get it here

13w7 1000watts Rms, 12w7-750watts RMS

I have been running the same 13w7 off of 1000watts for quite some time now... If weight is a concern do a sealed enclosure made with Baltic birch. The 13w7 is a definite improvement over the 12w7 and you are very correct, JL subs are exellent.

I had the w6v2 line too...awesome. I prefer the w7 line. It has a certain sound that I cannot reproduce with other subs.

There is one sub that is VERY close to the 13w7 and will save you 36lbs....its the critical mass UL12. Weighs 16 lbs. I did a side by side comparo with the 13w7 in my old Mercedes and they are very close off of 1000watts. The downside it that you really need about 1500 watts rms to get the UL12 to really come alive. Oh and the UL12 is expensive....twice the price of the 13w7 but you can find deals out there around $1000. And the print on the cone of the UL12 is ugly.

13w7, 12w7, 10w7, 12w6v2, 13w6v2, 10w6v2, ul12---all these subs are exellent.

Personally I do not think that is too much subwoofer. It is just a matter of your listening tastes. If you like pound your chest bass, then this subwoofer would suit you fine. If you just want to "fill out" your music, then I would use their W3 or W6. Personally I have a
Stealthbox with (1) 10" woofer in my '05 Screw F150, being pushed by JL's 250/1 and it sounds like I have (2) 10's. People stare when I drive by. Mids and highs by JL also, the XR componet series pushed by JL 300/4. You can't go wrong with JL. Hope this helped.

I can't believe it!

Give them a trunk and they will come.

The larger the trunk the bigger the boom Box.

Those things won't even fit in my Mazda. :nono:

I can make them fit in anything with a trunk :) I've only used 3 to 4 cubic feet of the 17 available. I can fit 9 cases of water from Sams Club in my trunk with my speaker boxes....there's tons of room back there.

Plus, the added weight right over the rear tires = more traction!

and it makes the rear sit down some, which looks better.

and it smooths out the suspension just a bit.

They wont fit huh?:nono::bs:

Wrong..

I did some measuring last night heres what I came up with

I put my replica 13w7 (made from MDF) in all kinds of locations.

1. did you know that with the big foam block removed from the spare tire well there is at least 3.82 Ft3 down there. At that size, I can fit 2 sealed 13w7's or a single 13w7 ported.....no problem

2. 13w7 will fit in the rear right hand side with a fiberglass enclosure

3. 2-13w7's sealed would fit in an enclosure right behind the seats or 1 13w7 ported .....easily. If you wanted 2 ported it would just take up slightly more space.

I can think of many ways to fit the 13w7 in there...Its all a matter of playing tetris with the trunk....Actually...not really...This trunk is so big that you could just about fit any sub combo that you wanted with ease.......

Now you just have to decide how far you are willing to go.

I personally would go for 2 of the new 13 in slim subs from JL.....with a 1000/1....But I already have the 13w7 so I will use it.

I'd shop around before I bought anything from that website:slap:

They are selling a amp that was built in 1999 as brand new for $419 (PPP 2300 LEW). I bought the same amps 3-4 years ago from a stereo shop, brand new, (2) amps for less than $250.

and I've never heard of RE subs

Rockford Fosgate, Kicker, JL Audio, Orion...all good quality subs.

I just bought the SE12 from RE Audio and this thing is almost as loud as my Kicker 15 Square. It hits very hard and very low. I am feeding it 600 watts with no bass boost. 3 SX12 will be very loud. These woofers are definetally made for SPL. Sound quality is ok, not great, but not to bad either. If you are buying this sub for sound quality only, you will be a little disappointed. You can get the SX12 on ebay for cheaper, $235 with free shipping.

I look for both SPL and SQ. The application has alot to do with it. Most people get mids, highs, and subs installed and dont get anything balanced... No true x-over points.. Don't even knw what an RTA is for and?or even heard of it.. Been playing around with car audio for about 17 years and even then its hard to keep up with it.

the are so many thingyou can do to cancel the rattle. as simple as having a port through enclosure or compression box (the old bass heads know what i'm talking about) or it can get price with spay deadening, dynamat or a combination of both. i've known people to go as far as fiber class and cat hairs to make the trunk lid heavie. possibilities are endless.

SRG963

Dynamat is the way to go, or a lesser version on ebaY works just as good. Think they call it FatMat or something like that. You can lay layers over one area if you need to. This car is so solid, I think one layer would do nicely. If I wasn't leasing, I'd have it on my car already...have a 50 foot by 3 foot roll left over from my last car.

ebaY has the deals for car audio...just don't expect a warranty :)

BTW, the sound dead mat typically comes with a roller, but you will need a heat gun, or on a very hot day, a hair dryer to apply to vertical and upside down areas like the back deck.
