: Kelly Blue Book Values
lg68jcu 08-05-2010, 01:12 PM Hey Everyone,
Have you guys been noticing the values of our cars are actuallying increasing? The trade in value of my car per the website is actually more than it was when I bought it last July as well as being higher every month so far this year and I have been putting miles on it! Who knows what you'd actually get from a dealer but my KBB trade in on my 2008 V6 with no options is 19K for good and a shade over 20K for excellent. It was only 18K or 19K in excellent condition when I bought it new last year. It says it retails for over 25K. I bought this new last July for $20,240 out the door. I must say I can live with this :)

PhantomBlack G8 08-05-2010, 01:23 PM I have noticed this as well with the GT's. My excellent trade value is around $23K and the retail sale value is at $29K which is close to what I paid for it brand new 2 years ago. Talk about a car that holds its value very well. I am certainly impressed. Not sure what the leading cause of this is, but maybe (I am guessing here) it has something to do with the low production numbers and limited availability of the car.
Shredmo 08-05-2010, 01:43 PM KBB excellent trade-in value is $20 more than I paid for my car new a year ago. Doubt I'd really get that if I were to trade. Skeptical.
Edit: car has 10k miles on it now.
Tweaky 08-05-2010, 02:01 PM SRV for my 6400 mile GXP is $42,085. Hell, even trade value is $35,525.....who would have thought a $40k+ Pontiac would not be upside down less than a year from purchase....and I paid sticker to get the last SBM GXP available.
mi04se1 08-05-2010, 02:55 PM According to KBB, the trade in value on my 09 GT in excellant condition is $27150.
lg68jcu 08-05-2010, 02:57 PM Its pretty sweet if we could actually get these trade in values. I guess we'll never know because we love our cars and wont sell em. Less supply = higher cost!!!
Schwartz 08-05-2010, 11:35 PM I paid 34g for mine brand new,and the sticker price was 38g.In canadian $.
Fully Loaded. It sounds like i got ripped off.
mr weather 08-06-2010, 01:43 PM When did you buy it? I got mine in April 2009 when GM was offering a ton of money off in rebates/factory cash and other incentives. Paid CA$31,500 out the door.
andrewv28 08-06-2010, 02:25 PM One thing to keep in mind is that the sticker prices on our 09 GTs were around 34K (with sport and premium). So it hasn't really increased in value, we just all got a really good deal with the incentives GM offered to us.

You make a good point but I am still very happy with my situation. I have a 3 model year old V6 without a single option and my retail price is 25K for a 27.5K sticker car. Thats really good and only depreciated 9% from the sticker. it has appreciated 25% from the purchase price. Happy a heck Yo!!! Plus my trade in value has increased 10% over the past year while adding 12,000 miles to it.
Another way to put it..... I bought my car for 20K last July and if I went out to buy the same car today I might have to pay 25K for it. I bought it new with 400 miles on it and it has 12,400 today.
The prices are on the steady rise regardless. like you said they are not more than sticker but I am happy with my situation.
T-Type 08-06-2010, 03:13 PM Before you guys start popping campaign corks, take a look at Edmund's True Market Value numbers. They are usually a lot lower than KBB.

Yeah, that price is ~$4300 less for trade in value compared to KBB. To be honest, that number still is better than I would have predicted back when I bought my car a year ago.

Yea man, I am not trying to bust your bubble on the value. Heck, I own a G8 too and like the fact that it is still up there. I won't be selling mine anytime soon, but it's still good to know it's still worth something.
jackalope 08-07-2010, 05:24 AM HA! Thats great. I paid $30k (or there about) out the door and the retail on it now is $32k.
I'd like to see trade in values a little more but I agree its nice to see a year old "American car" hold it value and not drop like a brick in a bathtub.

^ This. For those of us that were fortunate enough to buy when GM was giving these cars away, it would appear that the value has "increased". I will say that the value has held fairly well compared to most 1-2 year old cars.
SRG963 08-07-2010, 10:13 AM Damn, only a 6k depreciation after 2 years and 50k on my car.
SWEET!
Canadarob 08-08-2010, 11:33 AM I paid 34g for mine brand new,and the sticker price was 38g.In canadian $.

I do not have the premium pack, but did opt for an extended warranty and a $700 protection pack, and it came to just over $30,500 CAD.
mjtraynor3 08-08-2010, 12:05 PM One of the selling points when I got my new 2010 GT Sport Premium for $26500 last January was the used 2009 GT cloth 14 K miles for $24000 from the same dealer. Why buy used if you can get new for the same price. Combine that with the fact that the car speaks for itself so a private sale a little above trad-in value should be easy if I ever have to sell it to pay off the balance (knock on wood). The fact that the used value is staying high it great. I hope it stays that way.
mjtraynor3 08-08-2010, 12:16 PM oops make that an 09 new and 08 used
drodr 08-25-2010, 01:27 PM My car blue booked excellent 25000 when I traded it in and I got 25500 from dealer. All in all, the G8 held its value remarkably well even with Pontiac being axed.
knglibrty 09-11-2010, 09:36 PM ive had mine since june 09 and it books for 4k more then i paid, then again i got great connections......
gtomark71 12-16-2010, 11:03 PM My dealer actually sent me a letter stating that the demand for G8's are great and that they would buy it back from me for what I almost paid for it. A number of customers were coming to the showroom inquiring about the car after seeing them on the roads. I guess it has to do with supply and demand. I have noticed that the car is retailing for a few thousand less than what I paid for it 18 months ago. It is holding its value very well. Lets face it, you just don't see many of them on the roads. When I do see another G8, I kind of get a little excited myself and smile.
L76 FAN 12-16-2010, 11:32 PM It's the American people telling GM "Why did you cut Pontiac??" :whine:
StickyBuns 02-17-2011, 08:02 PM Not just the Americans my friend.
Many many of us Canadians are also going to miss the Pontiac.
Is good to know though that we happened to get one of the last.
But what is my wife gonna do for her next vehicle ? Shes die hard Pontiac.
Panzer Leader 02-17-2011, 08:13 PM I had another offer tonight for the car.

I looked up my value today for $hits and giggles and it was $18,575 in good condition and $19,625 in excellent (It was $18,500 in February). So in 9 months my car has depreciated an amazing $425 or $47 a month while adding 10,000 miles on it. I went into the car 6K upside down and if I sold it private part I would be in the green. Amazing. Had I kept my other car I would be -3K still easy. Amazing Investment!
lg68jcu 07-01-2011, 11:37 AM WOW...WOW
My KBB Trade in value is $19125 in Good and $20175 in Excellent today. If I went private party it is 20,780 / $21930. Its actually still appreciating. Thats unbelieveable!!!
knglibrty 07-01-2011, 11:49 AM Got it at the right time. And you get to drive it. Hold it closely.
RevvHigh 07-01-2011, 12:21 PM I have never found KBB to be very reliable. When I was younger and dumber and trusted KBB to value my trade in, I got royally hosed a couple of times.
Also, it's a little known fact that there are actually two KBBs... one used by dealers and another with fictional values shown to retail buyers.
The whole Kelley biz is darn close to a scam, if you ask me.... fit only to line the bottom of a birdcage.
If you want to see what cars are really selling for between private partys, I suggest checking the end sale prices for comparable vehicles on ebay.
Someday 07-01-2011, 12:25 PM Just valued my 09 GT w/ premium and sport pkg w/ 27,100 miles for $24,700. Considering I was VERY upside down on my trade, I'm only about $1,000 from being right side up-finally! I don't plan on selling it, but it's nice to know I've almost caught up.

I was in the same exact situation. Was going to wait to get one but couldnt so I pulled the trigger. I am almost 2 years in and I am even taking $6K of neg equity into the loan. Thought it was a bad idea at the time but it has worked out wonderfully!!!
durdey09g8 07-24-2011, 11:48 PM Just traded my 2009 V6 in for a 2011 Ram 1500 Hemi, I got 19250 canadian for it, now they are trying to sell it for 23899!
The thing with trying to sell these cars privately is that not many people know they exist, so they are not searching for them.

WOW Pretty awesome so thats gotta be $20K USD. How many miles and what options. Mine is a 2008 bone stock with 24K miles and it says its got a $19200 trade in value ($20,000 if in excellent). pretty good. It was only $18000 in february of this year.
J Wikoff 07-25-2011, 03:18 PM KBB says mine has appreciated $325 since June 1st.
LowCal 07-25-2011, 04:42 PM if i got one of those letters i'd look into it and upgrade to a gt if i could find a black one
222/226 07-25-2011, 05:05 PM It is all used cars going up in resale value dramatically not just our cars. I was just offered more in trade for my truck than I was offered 3 years ago! KBB,Edmonds and NADA all say it is worth more as well. I also just bought a vehicle for my teenager and got "sticker shock" from looking at worn out kids cars. A POS I would not consider buying for him WILL bring $4k or more (bad paint and all) with close to 200,000 miles on it.

It had 32000kms and no factory options, it was a 1SA. But I added tinted windows, 3M wrap, and the leather steering wheel.
The other good thing that people forget about trade-ins is that you only pay sales tax on the difference.
So I basically got 20250 for the G8. (So I only lost 10 grand in 2 years!)

I agree, all used vehicles are going up. I was looking at 09/10 Rams and they were only 1000-2000 less than a brand new 2011. So obviously I went new!
Rich G 07-26-2011, 12:39 AM I couldn't trade up for any other colour other than the one I got...
lg68jcu 10-13-2011, 12:25 PM Our cars are taking massive trade in hits the last couple months. I can only assume this is due to the weather changing and winter sneaking its way in. I was sitting pretty in August. Not so much now. But it will probably go up again starting in the spring. I am not selling so no issue right now.
KBB Trade
Mar-11 $18,000.00
Apr-11 $18,500.00
May-11 $18,800.00
Jun-11 $18,800.00
Jul-11 $19,225.00
Aug-11 $19,450.00
Sep-11 $18,225.00
Oct-11 $17,375.00
mi04se1 10-14-2011, 08:24 AM Trade in value on KBB for mine was $25000 a couple of days ago.
Shredmo 10-14-2011, 09:38 AM Just noticed trade value is dropping fairly quickly. Wonder if:
-KBB is attempting to make the values more accurate?
-seasonal adjustment?
-used market is softening?
Having a good resale number only sparked debate in my house as to whether I should trade for a truck. Lower resale means I might be stuck in a g8 for a while, oh noez!!!
222/226 10-14-2011, 10:00 AM I bought a 2005 SRT-10 truck in 06 for $29,000 from a dealer with 6000 miles on it with no damage of any kind. KBB said that trade in was $39,500 and retail was $44,500.
I think they may use a formula instead of real world auction values to determine their numbers.
LiquidR3D 10-20-2011, 08:00 AM Just bought my 08 G8 base, fully loaded last week. The Credit Union's Black Book shows the value @ $21,200
KBB showed $19,000
mi04se1 10-22-2011, 07:56 AM Went to 3 dealers yesterday for a trade-in value: a Chrysler dealer, Buick, and Chevy. The Chrysler dealer only offered $20,000. The Buick dealer offered $21,000. The Chevy dealer offered $24,000.
07sciontc 11-20-2011, 08:28 AM looks like chevy has the most offered i was offered 16.5 for mine perfict condition and has 60k on it v6 i wont take less than 22.5 for mine lol i love my car
G8Jay 12-10-2011, 09:05 AM I was just telling the wife today, I have had my G8 for two years now, 25,000 miles later and love it just like I did the first day I got her. Love the features, this car will for sure be a car I have for a long time!!
