So, I haven't been around much because we're moving to a new house and have been super busy. But, I did have time to go to the Father's Day drags down at Bremerton Raceway.

My best time:

13.50 @ 104.17MPH

Yes, my G8 is still COMPLETELY stock.

I'll get the timeslips out in the morning for the particulars, but here are the rest of my times:

1) 13.81
2)13.55
3)13.50
4)13.64 <-- got eliminated. :(

Nice times! What kind of 60' time did you have in your 13.50 run? And did you stay in 3rd gear for that run or did it shift to 4th?

Good work! I'm freakin' jealous!

I'm glad people are now seeing the numbers that the mags were seeing... Maybe the cars just needed some "break in" before they would run full tilt.

makes sense. my CTS didn't fully loosen up until about 12K miles were on it. Been noticing my exhaust (stock) is getting throatier.

COngrats...!! daym... youve dropped like what .6 tenths of a second from the last time you ran?!! Good runs...did you do anything different??
Was the track or weather different from before? Or what do you think made such a dramatic drop?? We are all excited for you....and wanting to know Anything that could help us other poor G8s out there!! Esp. since the Challengers on the streets now...Our GTO/G8 club members spotted one in cali this week....There running "supposedly" 13.0 flat at 109mph plus outa the box !!

I'm getting a late start this morning, but from what I can remember, my 60' was like.. 2.01 or 2.02 something.

I have the all-seasons, and I didn't burn 'em, and avoided the water completely on every run. The temperature for the first three was about 60-62F, with the last one being 66. I had about an hour and a half between the first three, and an hour from the last one, where I kept the hood open to cool off. I ran the car WITHOUT the engine cover - which seems to make the biggest difference. I would launch at idle in sport mode, and keep my eyes on the digital tach/speedo. As SOON I saw "S3" come up, I tapped the gearshift down to hold the gear. The fastest [non-recorded, was past the trap] top speed I got to was 108 that way. But of course, I had to hit the brakes. LOL

My husband nearly crapped himself when he saw my times come up. He said he's only ever seen 13.6 or 13.7 in magazines. Guess I need to write to Motor Trend and say "What's wrong with YOUR G8s?" :P Oh! I've also had the ECM/TCM retune at the dealer.

I'm sure it had a lot to do with it. I don't know at what MPH it shifts at, but DR told me to try that trick a few days ago, and I wasn't so sure about doing it. But, I went ahead and did it at the last second. I went to another Test and Tune on the Friday before, and my times were still in the 13.8 without doing it. I tried holding the gear at 70, 75, and 80. The results were pretty much all a 13.81. So, whenever 3rd gear kicks in at sport mode is my marker.

Technically, you could hit the manual mode at any time while you're in second. Don't have to do it immediately.

I bet that had something to do with it. Shifts are a lot better with the ECM/TCM update as far as I can tell

Congrats! This should put a lot of the "GM threw ringers at the car mags" crap to rest, all it takes is some practice, some good miles on the car, and some decent weather/track prep. I'm sure you guys will see even better times pretty soon, 13.4s should be possible with better weather. Looks like you're right on track with the '04 GTOs, impressive!

Here's a stupid question that I didn't want to start a new topic about. My last car was a FWD car so when I wanted to do a burnout, i'd hit the E-brake. Now with the RWD car the hand brake locks the rear wheels. Something tells me that could be problematic. How do you ONLY lock the front wheels on this guy to do a burnout?

Nice job.

There was a lot of people who couldn't even get their bone stock 2005-2006 GTO's to that time.

In ultimate DA (best weather and conditions) you have a 13.3 or maybe 13.2 second car.

Go light up a victory cigar, you earned it! :D

LOL. Just want to do a burn out? Try placing your left foot on the brake, and your right foot on the gas. This method works for most :gr_jest:

Doesn't hitting the break also stop the rear wheels from spinning also?

You're breakin' them loose. The e-brake is a whole 'nother set of pads in the back, so you really don't want to try doing a burnout with it set. lol

I used to do crazy burnouts in my Mustang all the time. And then my brakes got all f-d up. So, I try to keep it minimal in the G8 for now.

The proportioning valve, that sets brake pressure to the front and back brakes, usually sets the rear pressure lower. This means the rear brakes dont grab as hard as the fronts (even with bigger rear brakes), so you'll break the rear tires loose before the fronts let you roll. I wouldn't recommend doing it a lot, unless you enjoy changing brakes.

Mike, a guy from NJ ran 13.39 at 104 stock at Atco dragway, then 13.00 with his tune and really low 12's with a 100 shot. Still the best this summer, the Jersey guy ran that in much cooler conditions, like early April. Thats just as fast as the gto's.

13.39 stock?!! A G8 GT STOCK!!! 13.39? DAMN! People are trying to get those times WITH mod's. Must have been a perfect night. Cold, zero humidity and high pressure right at sea level with an awsome driver. Amazing!

That time ... For a stock G8 .. .can only be achieved in ideal conditions ... and running on the ATCO track ...

ATCO notoriously has times .3-.4 secs faster than other tracks...

Don't know, maybe the elevation, water grain, etc. This guy ran in April, nice and cool then. You can go to Ls1tech and watch the video. He gives all the ets and mph. It also only had 232 miles on it and had the temp tag still on the back window.

Atco is all about good DA. I believe its right at sea level, maybe +32ft. Add in some cool temperatures and high dew point and you have the making of unbelievable negative DA's. Same as 'corrected' times that you hear about. Atco has been known to have -2000 to -3000 in DA.

CoolAid
07-08-2008, 09:39 PM
Great times. Glad to hear these sleds are starting to turn numbers where they should be. Thats easy Challenger R/T range if not a rookie in an SRT. Click my sig link at the bottom if you need help reporting the D.A. (Density Altitude)

CoolAid

What is the difference between ATCO tracks and other tracks? I don't get it

Track Altitude & Density Altitude. Like Darkside said, ATCO can push -2000 and even -3000 DA numbers which are heaven for racing. The lowest you will probably see out in AZ and STILL be able to hook on a warm track will be around +1,600 DA.

As you know, when you go up in altitude the air is less dense and harder to process for engines and lungs.

BUT

Other factors such as moisture or water particles in the air, or heat (mainly heat) also make a dramatic kick to the balls of a performance car.

Example:

Last time I ran in good DA with the old mods I ran at 1,600ft DA (Density Altitude) and ran 13.10 with backups of many 13.14s-13.18s

Right now in muggy, humid, super hot 110 degree AZ summer the DA is easily 4,600ft and my BEST would be 13.35 on a perfect run with back-ups of 13.45-13.50s all night.

Which is why I consider right now to be AZs "winter" I dont even race, I did last year, but know better now. Around late October will start to be racing season again and by Jan-Feb will be prime time because the temps will drop to 60' and the DA will drop from 4,600 to 1,600~ish and I'll gain back my E.T. Hope this helps.
