: Interest in G8 Specific Torque Converters? Possible GP!
VectorMotorsports 06-18-2008, 12:46 PM How many of you would be interested in a G8 specific Torque Converter? The unit would be a 3200 stall and would REALLY help these cars get out of the hole and make them overall more fun to drive?
We have worked with Yank for years with great results and they have agreed to custom make us G8 converters if there is enough interest. We'd like to get at least 5 parties commited before we go ahead with this venture. Pricing is TBD but will be less expensive than the C6 converters and there will be a special deal for the first 5+ that order on the GP. FYI the G8 converter WILL be different than the C6 in many ways, including the mounting points!
Let us know, I think this is the perfect way to really make the G8 scream!
TomPierce 06-18-2008, 04:17 PM 3200 is too much for the street. How about 2300-2500 range? And what is stock? 1800?
VectorMotorsports 06-18-2008, 04:21 PM 3200 should be perfect for the street, we have plenty of customers running converters up to 3600 in pure street cars. The 3000-3200 would be the best of both worlds without totally killing gas mileage. Stock appears to be about 2200 but I'll have to double check that.
Mr. Sandog 06-18-2008, 04:32 PM Yanks are super-tight, so a 3200 Yank is not like a 3200 PI/Vig.
I won't be one of the first, but I'm interested in seeing how this turns out.
MANOFSTEEL69 06-18-2008, 04:50 PM Some possible intrest here, but need some cost figures.....Have already dumped 4,500 into the car so far.....Not sure how much more the War Dept. will allow.......:(
wreckwriter 06-18-2008, 05:45 PM Install will be pricey too unless you're able to DIY. A converter would be great though.
Got 8? 06-18-2008, 07:25 PM Would this be a billet converter ???

Yes, Yanks are tighter than Vigs, I had a TT3000 in my truck that was a daily driver...here's some pics right after installation just flatfooting it, no powerbraking...

I had to let off because I started to hook toward the mailbox and the ditch!!!
Got that to hook on the track and I watched my sixty foot and 1/4 mile times drop!!!
Hell people put 3600's in the TBSS's and they are DD's too...
I've heard of people running 4000's in the Camaros and Firebirds...
GeorgeInNePa 06-18-2008, 08:18 PM I'm interested.
Panther 2 06-18-2008, 08:37 PM I'm interested, does the G8 require a lockup converter ?
g8_795 06-18-2008, 09:05 PM I would be interested but would have a couple of concerns/questions.
1. Since my G8 is a daily driver I don't want to tank my MPG. I can deal with some loss.
2. At 3200, is extra tranny cooling required?
Does anyone know what our stock stall is at? Also, at highway speeds, would the converter lock even though RPM is at 1500 or so?
Got 8? 06-18-2008, 09:12 PM I can only speak for the Yank that I had in my truck but if it is built even remotely close to it, it will have a lock up clutch if the 6L80 has it standard and unless you are gassing it it will almost take off like stock.
That is what a lot of us mean when we say a Yank is "tight" whereas a P.I. Vig (Precision Industries Vigilante for short) will tend to rev more freely w/ less throttle input than a Yank or is "looser" than a Yank...
Also compared to a friends Vig the Yank will pull in gear at idle whereas a Vig will not even attempt to move...I also used to pull my 4000lb boat w/o any problems w/ the Yank...
Oh and for your second question, extra cooling is never a bad thing and most times recommended...JMHO
Atlas 06-18-2008, 09:13 PM yeah my vig 3200 would stall to 3750... good stuff but i will wait for vig to introduce something...

I'm interested in the 3200 Stall Yank Torque Converter. How much would it be for the first 5 people? Also, how much would it cost me to have it installed?
Better launches sound like a good thing!
Also, would gas mileage suffer any?

Yes it sure would be!

Yes and this would be a lockup as well.

1. You will likely lose a little city MPG but hwy should remain the same once the converter is locked up.
2. It may need a cooler, it never hurts to have a good cooler anyhow unless you live in Alaska ;)

As I said above city may suffer a little bit but highway should be identical when locked up. The pricing will be set as soon as we have five interested parties (which I think we do now). As far as install goes, give a call up to the shop and request a quote ;)
Chipless 06-19-2008, 10:16 AM I'm interested Chris. I think 3,200 rpm would be about perfect. :)
GeorgeInNePa 06-19-2008, 11:00 PM Change me from interested, to I'll take one.
You guys have my email...
wreckwriter 06-20-2008, 06:27 AM We're talking about a pretty high stall speed here. Do we have any reason to believe our rear ends are up to the task (or not)? Haven't seen much on the rear ends but what I have seen hasn't been overly glowing.
edfiero 06-20-2008, 07:31 AM I had a Yank 3200 on my 96 Impala SS. It was a very nice unit, but I did not like it for the street. Had to rev the engine too much when driving in stop and go traffic, and when I got on it, it would smoke the heck out of the tires...way too difficult to hook up and get any traction. I'd recommend something less 2500-2800 unless your doing a gear swap at the same time.
Got 8? 06-20-2008, 06:39 PM LT1 is a different animal...The LS series motors usually don't start to make power until the mid range and upper RPM's. Look at peak torque on the two motors, the LS series usually come in around 4000 RPM....and the LT1 makes peak torque at around 3200 or so, so you were all or nothing seems like with that set up, that would be like putting a 44-4500 on an LS series motor...
Got 8? 06-20-2008, 07:21 PM Here's the only vid I have of my truck w/ the TT3000...and yes in the third race it is a GTO I'm lined up against...
Yank TT3000 (http://video.performancetrucks.net/player.aspx?fileid=6027A566-DA47-4D5E-B15D-5B7A20CCDBCD)
Edit: Also found my old report that I put up on another board after just installing it...You've already seen the results in the above photos...LOL
Well I just got back from testing, so here's the report...This stall drives just a tad bit looser then stock. But has alot more kick. I can brake stall it to about 25-2700 (stock tach says 25-2600 but has been about 1-200 off while scanning) . Now get this... flash stall, near as I can tell, is about 26-2800 but seems lower on the stock tach 24-2600, but I'm also assuming (sp.) it is also equally slow to swing to the RPM's. All in all I'm happy w/ it, especially w/ the 50 yrd. solid black marks I left before I had to get out of it cause I was headed for the ditch...:gr_devil: Hey, I also want to thank you guys for the motivation and support. I probaly wouldn't have tried to tackle this myself w/o you guys help, so here's to you.:patriot:
G8GT594 06-20-2008, 10:55 PM I would like to see how this turns out before i jump in. Im glad to see VMS jumpin ahead again!

The G8 VE 6l80 converter will have the same bolt pattern as the 4l60 I believe. A C6 converter like the 258mm twin plate Cadillac ones or variations thereof on the market atm won't fit.
I have a 3k one coming now to me in Sydney so hopefully it will bolt straight up.
cheers
I am surprised that Yank and the other converter companies havn't allready sussed them out for the truck and G8 and Holden market. It's not like the 6l80e is about to be superseded any time soon.
cheers
RellisG8 06-22-2008, 11:13 PM DO you have a price for this yet? I will pick one up from you however you will have to ship it to Hawaii.

Correct, there is a little more to it than that but thats the general fitment :)
needasrt4 06-23-2008, 09:31 AM i have my yanks converter just waiting for my car to get back

I was speaking with you guys today on the phone about this (and my laptop troubles).
I'm still in.
SS Enforcer 07-21-2008, 06:32 PM How did you guys go with your stallies ?
I got mine and and been to the track allready managed a 11.83 PB with a 1.64 60' but had issues with tuning shifts. The car is touching the 7k limiter on the 1-2 and 2-3 shifts. My tuner thinks he has it sorted now and waiting to flash another box tune into it so we should be good for a 11.5 pass.
My stall flashes to a max of 3800 so it's a tad higher than what I wanted but it drives nicely and with some A6 tuning is locking up at low speeds at part throttle.
cheers
VectorMotorsports 07-21-2008, 07:04 PM The converters are due in this week but with the field test results we've seen from the 3000+ people are going to be VERY happy :)
