Red ;) .... waiting on the word if its the Red show car or one of the recent pre-production cars that just came over
(Pictures from show)
Confirmed - its the Red Show car (one from Holden release)
It is more production orientated
Warning - The wheels are not production!
Sunday
St Charles IL 10-4
Indian Uprising Pontiac Show
The grey show car that has made its rounds already :)
DevilYellow 08-03-2007, 05:51 PM BTW - if commodore photos pop up today from Detroit it was some Holden engineers going for some test drives. From what I hear they saw a few enthusiasts (fbodies, etc) snapping photos and trying to get them to pull over asking them when they can buy one!
JTSnooks 08-03-2007, 08:20 PM Very cool! But I'll have to wait until it comes to Atlanta. They couldn't even make it to the auto show!
bradG8 08-03-2007, 09:22 PM How does a guy like me find out the touring schedule of the G8?
veritasatis 08-03-2007, 09:27 PM How does a guy like me find out the touring schedule of the G8?
+1
I would like to know when and where it is throughout the country.
Thanks
DevilYellow 08-03-2007, 09:41 PM There is no real 'tour' .... and really there are just these two show cars. I doubt they would ever show the pilots before the production cars come along.
These were just 2 shows I was tipped off about. I am not so sure how much the red car has been shown. I thought I heard it was at an auto show out east (NY?) but I may have been mistaken - which would make this weekend the first time the Red G8 has been shown in public in the US. Please pay attention to it as it is much closer to 'production' than the grey show car.
CMNTMXR57 08-04-2007, 12:27 AM Looks like I may just go to the Indian Uprising afterall. ;)
CMNTMXR57 08-06-2007, 12:05 AM Got there about 3:30 today and the car was gone. Must've been packed up in the truck already. The only ones out were the G6 GXP, Torrent GXP, and the Solstice racer.
So I was a little ticked as I wanted to show the Wife.
Cool_Hand_Luke 08-06-2007, 07:43 AM I still think GM needs to do a tour and give these cars a chance to be seen and driven. It can't hurt and will only help.
Get some real production cars out the factory door, on a fast transport and out into the public eye.
Mike P 08-06-2007, 10:19 AM Yep, you could run an air charter from Austraila to the US and transport some cars for test driving, show, and PR events.

I read recently that it might have been Ed Cole, who planned to have a fleet of dedicated air transport for vehicles. Might have been someone else. If I find the article I'll reference it, but th egist was whichever pres of GM proposed this dies before getting it "of the ground" Cole died after retirement, before taking helm at Checker, so I'm now thinking it was someone else. They did fly Allante chassis, bodies, almost complete cars back and forth for regular production.
Cool_Hand_Luke 08-06-2007, 02:30 PM I think we are just talking about getting a small batch of final production cars built and shipped over quickly to get a tour going.
They can get the rest shipped by cargo vessel for all I care.
I wonder who is the person in charge of advertising and promotion. I'd love to see some kind of forum set up so we can converse and find out what they are thinking.
I should be finishing up my marketing and management degrees within the year. I'm thinking about using this launch as an example of what not to do.
immortal 08-06-2007, 03:29 PM Has anyone tried to post about the lack of info and promotion there is on the G8 on Bob Lutz's blog? I'm sure he would shake up the PR if he knew about them slacking.

Cool_Hand_Luke 08-06-2007, 04:02 PM I just came from there and sent one to the editor@gmblogs.com .
Maybe an email or fifty might help.

I'm think the same guy who was responsible for the paint finish on the GTO has been promoted to the head of marketing for the G8. Wasn't his name Waweh? :P
Judging by the sound of the exhaust on the video clip from tehgmsource I'm wondering if it may have been muted quite a bit to compensate for AFM as compared to the sound of the stock Commodore.
CMNTMXR57 08-07-2007, 12:05 AM Here's a simple suggestion to "show" the car.
Show it for the entire F*&K^%$ time it's scheduled to be there!
What a novel friggin concept, huh?

That's the least they could do.

The info was given to me shortly after the plans were made. This is a third party bringing and showing the car for Pontiac. Between the weather and the awards taking up everyone's attention I am sure that they just started packing up early.

Wow. Maybe Waa Wuh is the guy in charge. I think I might have my new sig until someone stops the marketing madness
The paint is now actually children's watercolor, and will completely rinse off if the car gets wet. Holden laid off it's entire quality control department and replaced it with one drunk half-blind Aborigine named "Waa Wuh". Most days he doesn't even show up!

I don't see that as an excuse Jon. You say you're going to be somewhere for a certain time, be there!
HUMBLER 08-10-2007, 10:42 AM The G8 at the Nationals was a PITA, same issues. Never knew when the car was coming and going... I'm guessing security plays a roll but oh well we got through it.
