: new guy considering a G8
muddyix 08-27-2010, 01:22 AM Hello there!
I'm a fellow car enthusiast looking or a new sedan to get myself into. I currently drive a 2006 Mitsubishi Evo IX somewhat modded and was looking at getting into some MUSCLE haha. One of my friends used to have one of the new (now old) 6.0 GTO and i loved everything but the looks and the absents of the rear doors that the G8 has. I tried looking at the G8 and specs on the pontiac website but that was an epic failure and all it had was a measly paragraph or two about nothing haha, how pathetic. So, the next best thing was to find a forum and here I am.
So here I am a total newb about this car trying to find out some basic info and what not. Hopefully I came to the right place!
I hope to see you guys around in a G8 soon!!
thanks
Derek
lowstrife 08-27-2010, 02:33 AM Start poking around the threads and such! You'll find all your answers in pretty much all the forums:
Shortlist:
Paint is still bad, but better than the GTO
Typically dynos to ~310RWHP
Bolt-ons (exhaust, tune, CAI) gains ~40RWHP
You can put Camaro rims on it (see big thread in the wheel\tire section)

anyone in here supercharge/turbo them? im too tired to use the seach haha
my buddy builds all the ls motors for sandrails so this thing wont stay stock internals for long, the first mods would be basic bolt ons like stated above along with a cam and head work =]
gr8lover 08-27-2010, 03:53 AM Mine is a bit modded....... There are a bunch of guys about the same as me... and plenty with Nitrous.... see signature... (note: Maggie is the supercharger brand and 1900 is the size....).. Supercharger brands are Magnesun "Maggie" or Procharger and a couple lucky guys have the Twin turbo setup.... the car is heavy as a Ox and a half... but I think the best part is the "sleeper" in it.....
Canadarob 08-27-2010, 07:31 AM Depends if you mean the Base, GT or GXP.
GT though,
Not sure about links, so Google Pontiac g8 gt specs, looks for the mototrend one.
jdeprato 08-27-2010, 07:45 AM If I could do it all over again I would have gotten the GXP, but I am satisfied with what I will be capable of doing with the car as it is now...
Canadarob 08-27-2010, 07:53 AM As much as I'd like a GXP, or even a GT, even the V6 is a great everyday driver, and for where I am right now in my life, it is all I need.
muddyix 08-27-2010, 02:30 PM i wouldnt settle for a v6, it would be treading backwards from where im at right now. I want a v8 haha!
total newb question but do the gt's come in 6spd manual or is it only the gxp?

Only the GXPs.
You can actively select your gear with the GTs A6.
So in that regard you have control over what gear you stay in.
There is however no direct linkage, you're still going through a torque convertor.
Welcome to the board by the way.
