: Question about SLP Tips

This question is mainly directed at Maryland Speed, but if others can contribute due to direct knowledge, I'd love to hear it.

Back when I had my last car (2001 Grand Prix) I bought the SLP "GTX" catback exhaust system. It came with SLP's "trapezoidal" tips, and they really looked good on the car. Here's a sampling of them:

http://www.3800performance.com/Merchant2/graphics/00000001/slp_gtx_tips.jpg

I have seen a few pictures of G8's that have the SLP "Loudmouth" exhaust system, and it looks like the tips that come on that system come with a "sharper angle" that better fits the G8's curved hind quarters.

I was referred to Maryland Speed from this thread (http://www.g8board.com/forums/showthread.php?p=581146#post581146), so here is my post.

A few questions:

Does Maryland Speed sell "just the tips" that are equivilant to their loudmouth g8 offering?
Are the stand-alone-tips otherwise identical to what would come on the loudmouth g8 offering, if lets say someone were to cut them off and sell them outright? Or are the stand-alone tips different in some way?
I have a SOLO exhaust system, but am considering changing the tips since I like the way the SLP tips look. I want to retain the rest of my SOLO 2.5" catback system, so no, I'm not in the market to purchase a complete axleback or otherwise exhaust system. Just want the tips.

If anyone has answers to the questions above, or if Maryland speed can chime in, optionally with comparison or product pictures, that would rock.

I appreciate everyone's help in advance, thanks for reading this thread and contributing if you are able.

That being said, if anyone has SLP tips just collecting dust, please send me a PM and I may purchase them from you. If not, I'd be more than happy to buy them from Maryland Speed, assuming that they're as similar as possible to the tips that come with the SLP G8 Loudmouth offering.

Sorry to bump my own thread, but I wanted to add this too, and somehow I forgot.

I missed out on buying this (they were already sold) but this is kinda what I am looking for.

There are some good pics here too.

Are the aftermarket tips that SLP / Maryland Speed sells identical to this?

I've wanted just the tips that come from SLP's exhausts too and have phoned/e-mailed several times to see if they sell just THOSE tips. The stand-alone tips SLP sells are not the exact same angle as the exhaust system ones so it'll likely look crap.

Anyway, bottom line is they don't sell just the tips I was and you now are looking for ... don't know why 'cause I bet they'd sell a good number.

Looking back at the ad where you picked up the tips, the seller says their from the loud-mouth system ... did you not get those?

Not sure if these are what you are looking for or not, but found part # 310301617/8 on thoer website for just the tips, and they are called "Trapaziod Tips" and look like the ones included on the exhaust kits.

Thanks for your comments.

I thought I would have won that ad that I referenced, but apparently the OP sold them long ago (that was his reply to my PM asking to buy them) and never updated the ad. So although it looked like I wound up with them by the way that other 'for sale' thread read.... I in fact did not wind up with them. Hmmmph. :(

I too have heard that the aftermarket tips that SLP sells as 'standalone' do not have the same dimensions as those bundled with their exhaust system bundles.

Furthermore, from what I've read, the "trapezoidal tips" are more like the Grand Prix picture that I posted in the first post in this thread.... the G8 openings are more angled off the back of the car and those tips wouldn't look "balanced" across the back, if you know what I mean. Like towards the center of the car, the tips would not protrude far enough, and near the corners of the car, the tips would be too far out. Make sense?

I'm looking for the tips just like in the for-sale thread, more or less, cut off of someone's SLP exhaust kit if they didn't want the SLP looking tips on their SLP exhaust. Make sense?

Thanks for those who contributed to the thread already, much appreciated!

We recently found out that the standalone ones are not the exact ones from the SLP kit. That being said I have sold 5-6 sets with no complaints. They are angle cut...with one end almost an inch longer than the other. So it's pretty close if not exactly the same. The standalone It is really up to you whether you want to try it since there is really nothing else on the market like it.

The picture at the link below shows measurements.

Followup to this; I bought a set of authentic SLP tips from a friend locally off his SLP axlebacks.

Totally Awesome and really works well with the GXP Diffuser!!

(sorry for the car being dirty, it was wintertime when I did this!)

Anybody actually have the stand alone tips instead of the ones directly off the loudmouth? I really want these things!

SLP does not sell the exact tips off their systems seperatly. The ones we sell on our website are a little different, but fit well, and look great. We have never had a complaint.

Does anyone have pics of the stand-alone tips vs. the loudmouth tips? or a pic of the stand-aone tips installed?

I have the "standalone" tips that Maryland speed sells on my car i had solo not put any tips at all on my catback when i bought it a few months ago and then had a local shop put the SLP tips i bought right on and weld them in place. They look great and fill the GXP diffuser really really well Ive seen the pics of "Loudmouth" tips and if they are different than the ones on my car i cant see it. I can take some pics tomorrow and post up for you guys.

Subscribed. I've been looking at the same tips for weeks.
