I know there are some folks on here that have been looking for a fix for the p0420 and p0430 without a tune and I think I might have found it. I'm planning on attending The Tuning School siminar when they come back to Dallas and waiting on the tune. (others have there own reasons)I added Kooks long tube headers, Kooks free-flowing cats and x-pipe and soon after had a p0420 and a p0430. I started playing around with a few variations of the spark plug anti-foulers and really haven't had any luck, then tried this...

parts
4 18mm spark plug anti-foulers
2 wix 33050 fuel filters

http://i205.photobucket.com/albums/bb204/jephro69/p0420%20p0430%20fix/SSPX0167.jpg

Start by drilling one anti-fouler out to 1/2 inch, I used a uni-bit so it would drill centered.

Next I cut off the outer part of the fuel filter as shown.

http://i205.photobucket.com/albums/bb204/jephro69/p0420%20p0430%20fix/SSPX0168.jpg

This is what your after

http://i205.photobucket.com/albums/bb204/jephro69/p0420%20p0430%20fix/SSPX0169.jpg

Install it into the anti-fouler that you DID NOT DRILL OUT.

http://i205.photobucket.com/albums/bb204/jephro69/p0420%20p0430%20fix/SSPX0173.jpg

Thread the anti-fouler you drilled out into the non-drilled one with the filter. Make sure the filter is in there good and tight or it may not seal

http://i205.photobucket.com/albums/bb204/jephro69/p0420%20p0430%20fix/SSPX0176.jpg

I had to use a washer to take up the play.

In the end this is what you should have.

I've been running like this around town for about 400 miles, almost 2 tanks of fuel and have not reset the codes. I checked today with a tech 2 and diagnostics for both codes had passed on the last test they ran. So far total cost was about $15 and might be a temporary solution. Good luck, later.

no check engine light (knocks on wood) and I'm close to having 500 miles on it.

Thanks. If anyone has tried this and was or was not useful, please let me know. I worked great for me.

I just wanted to get your opinion, do you think this would work if the cats were deleted?I'm thinking of running without them.I know it's bad for the environment so on and so forth. My apologizes in advance to the environmentalist.

Basically the trick to not setting a cel is to have the rear o2 sensor read as close to clean air as possible, back in the day we used to just unscrew them from the exhaust and plug the bung then zip tie them to the frame rails so they would read fresh air. worked back then, might work now too.

Yeah that would work great, but i thought i heard or read somewhere that the o2's nowadays work due to temperature. Not sure though.

For under $20, its worth a shot. worst case is you would have to put your cats back on or get it tuned.

Thanks Likwid..

Why would anyone delete the cats and not get tuned? Seems like a waste... but I guess some people might.

Why would anyone delete the cats and not get tuned? Seems like a waste... but I guess some people might. The car is tuned, but i'm running the cortex which does'nt have the ability to turn off the o2's. I would preffer to keep the cortex just for the diagnostic capability.

Yeah I tried the Cortex when I first got the car... hardly considered a tune once you do more then an intake. It actually loses power when you do more mods.

Whatever happened to the o2 similators?,those worked perfect on the F bodies,I guess after all the tuning options available now, they are not popular anymore, but those work great as they similate a rear o2 of just simply flatlining a steady voltage of 0.2-0.8 volts instead of a rapid cycling like the front o2's if watched on the graph.Anyhow a real tune is the best answer

I remember reading awhile back that the EPA filed lawsuits against most of the manufacturers of O2 simulators because they violate the "Clean Air Act provision"

So I built these up when I installed my Kooks mids last weekend. See http://www.g8board.com/forums/showthread.php?t=56590.

Driven about 300 miles. Absolutely no issues. These seem to work great. Running a Cortex 91 Vararaam tune with the headers (need to check on my fuel trims).

Thanks for the thread.
