: test drove a v6 for my daughter
locrzng888 06-20-2008, 10:45 AM Well, I've got a gt and love it and my daughter just got out of college and went to work at Boeing aviation in accounting, something do with outside labor. She really liked my gt when she drove it and she can buy one at invoice thru Boeing's new car program. I had to take my gt in for an oil change and decided I would drive the sedan v6 for her. It was all fine until I got on it. Man that thing is so noisy, I don't know what gm was thinking with this motor. Somehow they need to tone down the engine noise. I read another thread that said the same thing. I'm not knocking anyone who purchased the v6, maybe all of them aren't like that, but, this one was nasty sounding. The salesman agreed. We had already driven one of the Malibu LTZ with the same motor and hp. Man, it wasn't noisy at all and actually performed much better, love the paddle shifters and interior. Is everyone elses v6 like this? She would love to have a white one. They should have made the price difference between the two more noticeable. The v6 should be price much less, the one I drove was almost 30 grand and my gt was just a little over 31 grand. Not enough difference to buy a v6 in my opinion. She may just go ahead and buy the gt. I do like the 18's on the v6, better looking wheels then the gt 18's. Engine looks good also, nice cover and the car was great to drive.
MANOFSTEEL69 06-20-2008, 11:42 AM You might have to school her a little on driving it though......My wife has only driven front wheel drive cars for the most part, and the G8 scared the crap out of her. Lol She has decided she'll just drive my SVT Focus instead, and just be strictly a passenger in what she now refers to as "Your Car".
paul6t4 06-20-2008, 11:49 AM People over here said similar things about the engine noise over here when they introduced the 3.6 in the previous model VZ Commodore. The 3.8 Ecotec in the VY felt more refined although it put out quite a lot less power (152 Kw, not sure what that is in Hp.)

Dunno. My wife has only driven FWD, until I threw the keys to her to drive my new car. She loved it. She wondered, afterwards, why all cars weren't that much of a pleasure to drive. Her words, not mine. She did lay an 8ft heater when she took off though :)
locrzng888 06-20-2008, 01:21 PM She's driven front and rear drive. Her first car was a 325is, then I built her a slammed s10 blazer, she's driven my old 300c, my slammed 95 shortbed and my g8 gt. She wants to get rid of her 06 g6 gt coupe. I brought her up on cool low ride cars and trucks. Oh, she also liked to drive my Imala ss (clone)

Just a few of our rides past and present
EC-Ryder 06-20-2008, 02:26 PM ... I've never heard that noise, and I have both the V-6 and the GT. In fact we went out on the V-6 two nights ago with another couple and his wife commented how quite it was. I had the engine idling w\ the a\c on waiting for them when she made the comment. But that is not the first time someone made such a comment.
It's a matter of fact, I much prefer the V-6's smooth quite idle to the GT’s rough idle.
However, when I put the peddle to the metal she come alive with a distinctive race car rumble roar that turns me on. LOL!
But that's just me!
Cheers!

... until you realize you're not going that fast, and go flacid :)
locrzng888 06-20-2008, 03:02 PM good one.
EC-Ryder 06-20-2008, 03:46 PM Go as fast as I want to go or have as much hp as i want! LOL!
But as long as I can go as fast as I NEED to go a on regulated streets or hwy...and 260hp can certainly accomplish that.
On the other hand the GT pins me to the seat but there's no rumble which = no EXCITEMENT.
I’ll have to make a recording of the V-6 to coincide with the GT acceleration or spend 2k.
Some day I’ll have it all!
I feel it coming!
Just a thought!
Cheers! LOL!
The V6 is quiet until you drop your foot to the floor. Personally i like the sound of the engine, makes a nice growl. I'd expect a 2011 G8 sedan to have a 225kw LLT DI V6 which will give it some added power and a six speed auto or 6 speed manual transmission.
The alloytech is a nice engine though, the 3800 ecotec was a decent engine but in the VY it really struggled with the extra weight. They needed to move on.
I hated the noise of the V6. Reminded me of SUV's and pick up trucks.
