So, now that S-F has quit making/selling his Axle-Backs, are there any sources out there for a similar type system?

I'm not looking to replace my exhaust right now, I just want something simple to bolt on my car in place of the current mufflers as I have a lease vehicle.

Anybody have any lines on what I can do short of a custom setup?

I have not heard of any other axle backs. Check and see if anyone on the forum has a set of SF axle backs available. I saw a set posted recently in the for sale section if I recall. Lastly check and see if anyone has a stock set of mufflers available and if so, buy 'em or pay shipping. Then have a muffler shop replace the stock mufflers and keep the hangers, tips, and flange from the spare set. That way you save your stockers for the lease return, and you can have some sound in the mean time. If I were doing it, I'd have a jig that bolted to the flange, and also fabricated in a way to keep the tips in the exact same position. Same goes for the hangers - then the muffler can be removed, a replacement installed and the hangers could be reinstalled and rewelded in the stock mufflers place. I believe SF uses this method or something similar. A lot of muffler shops are HACK jobs - the worst welding I've ever seen. However some are very skilled and could do something like this and have it come out perfect. That's why the SF pipes were good, because you knew he jigged it properly, he had a good reputation, and it was bolt on for the customer. With the Magnaflow system coming available, I'm sure you wouldn't have much of a problem finding a set of mufflers to hack up. I'm keeping mine tho, better safe than sorry.

I enjoy welding and fabricating. I have a lot of metal working equipment from an Ellis 1600 bandsaw, to a Miller Dyasty 300DX Tigrunner, Millermatic 350P, plasma cutters, etc. :)

Thanks Unix.. I suppose I will have to find someone who is selling their S-F Axle-Backs then.

And as I live in an apartment I don't have space nor tools to try making my own. That and I don't have the necessary skills either. :wink2:

I'll just have to hunt harder is all.

Check the for-sale section - there is a set posted with no responses. Could have sold through PM, but it wouldn't hurt to ask.

Most muffler shops can put something together for you fairly easily and for a reasonable amount of money.
