as promised i will post my race with the charger srt8, but first two intriguing races(more like stop light fun) happened while traveling to and from the race...

first race: i was toting along US-17 in Jacksonville, heading to my builder/friends shop to hang out with all the F-bodies, mustangs and SRT's that show up... I get off of 295 and head south, towards the shop... About a 1/8 of a mile away from the shop, i am forced to stop at a red light, i usually just tear through them disregarding all forms of life(lol), but for some reason i stopped... not two seconds later, a BMW M5 pulls up next to me at the light... i look over at him, see that he is checking out my car, we make eye contact, love at first site ensues, wait, scratch that part... he points ahead, i nod in agreement... i put it in manual mode, light turns green, we go... i jump out of the hole slightly, get about a car on him through first, shift at 5500 (this will make it shift at about 6000 RPM), put another car on him through about 75, when i hit the brakes to turn into the shops parking lot, scratching my head, saying "why did i just walk him that bad"... he continues on, but ends up flipping a bitch and comes into parking lot to talk to me... cool guy, b/c the first thing he says are "damn, that thing is badass"... i ask what happened, b/c quite frankly he should have walked me... he explains he had the computer set to the standard setting, which is P400... i say "oh, i forgot about that, i thought that was only in m6's"... he says no m5's have it to, and it all makes sense... nice guy though, and his car was beautiful...

second race: LS2 GTO w/headers driven by an older gentlemen, loud ass exhaust, A4, sweet car... i see him ahead of me on US1, so i try to catch up... as soon as he sees me, he drops the hammer and goes... i punch it to follow, but i have the trans in M6, and i forget to downshift, so i slowly catch up... catch up to him at a stoplight, he tells me i have a nice car, i give the same compliment, and we both wait for the green, knowing that is the code of american muscle to race (lol)... green light, he spins a bit, i jump out to about a 1 1/2 car lead til about 60, and each shift i make, he catches up little by little, til he slowly passes me by 80... i left off at 90, b/c US1 has cops all over it, and the race was a bad idea to begin with... he had about a car on me by that time, so i do not think the g8 did too bad... he says he runs 12.5's all day with DR's but it didn't look like he had them on there at this particular time... still though his gto was gorgeous and fast, but i am very pleased with the g8's performance, even though i was the kill...

srt8 (actual set up race, unlike the above stop light fun): stock, cool, built from unused Mercedes E-class parts, lol... i won't be as descriptive as the other two, because i keep it manual and always shift at 5500, i will just tell the results of the two races, one dig and one roll race... dig: i outlaunch him, hold a car lead til 60, he passes me at 80ish, has about a one car lead at 120, when he hits the brakes and i follow suit... roll: we go from a 50 roll, which puts me in M2... three honks, we hit it, even through 90, fender at 105, almost a full car at 130... brakes, light up, we discuss, he is impressed, i am happy, he is sad (b/c he knows what is in store for it)... again i am thoroughly impressed at the g8's perfomance and go home a happy man...:driving:

Very well written! I actually find myself racing less in my G8 over my Focus SVT.......Because I don't have to lol. It's a nice change of pace "knowing" your in one of the badder cars on the road. I can't even imagine what my driving record would have looked like in a car like this 20yrs ago......Oh yea I do....12pt suspension....12 pt suspension, lol.

Atlas: Nice races! I may have something to talk about after this weekend.

My buddy has a Green New Bullit Mustang & were having a get together up north this weekend. I think we're setting up a race.

OP, nice runs. I take it you have a tune? You won the 2nd race vs. the Charger, right or he did?

Easy on Mercedes parts....nothing wrong with those!

^oops, charger won both races... sorry about that...

M5 was a 2006, but as i said he had the power level at P400 (400 of the 500 HP) and also had his traction control on... had he turned it to P500, i would have been left in the dust...

Awesome writeup!

My father has a 2005 M5 and when you put it into the P500 mode and then put it into the P6 mode it will leave a lot of cars in the dust. The V10 is an amazing motor but it doesn't shine till you see higher speeds. It's amazing to watch some of the videos of it racing.

P6 puts the tranny into what I call the 2X4 mode. It feels like someone is smacking you in the head with a 2X4 when you shift it. I believe it hit's 60 in the 4.6 to 4.8 second area and does the 1/4 mile in 12.4 to 12.6 stock. So it's a fast ass car IMO. The brakes are equally as amazing though... :)

And then.... come on I just got a sanwich and coke. lol Everyday I get the same HP deficient cars that went through my trash to make a tailpipe(coffee can) and light after light they keep twisting up the rubber band, finally I exchange pleasantries(explatives) with them, and destroy them 0-60 and then I get the "my cars stock", "I only have 4 cylinders" or some dumb*****. So I guess what I am trying to figure out is was he trying to see how bad I was going to beat him or how good he could do. Confused Charlie
