: Stuck 02 sensor
redrocket 06-23-2008, 06:52 AM Anybody else have a o2 sensor get stuck when changing out there exhaust? My drivers one turned bout 1/4 turn the got stuck in there. I finally got it out but it chewed up the threads on the sensor pretty bad. I was able to clean them up some, but the first couple threds were shot, But I used it anyway since a new one is $150 and it had to be ordered. Just hope it didn't screw up the treads on my new exhaust. Everything is working though so far. Just wanted to see if anyone else has had similar issues with the sensor turning the getting froze up.
g8_795 06-23-2008, 07:00 AM I didn't have issues removing my O2 sensors, but they were on very tight.
GRRRR8 06-23-2008, 08:03 AM Use Kroil. It is a special penetrant that will avoid that. Then put anti-seize when reinstalling.

We have this happen on many late model GM products. The Trailblazer SS's seem to be the worst. It appears that GM does not chase the threads after installing the bung.
What happens is the innermost bung threads roll into the threads on the O2 sensor when being removed. At his point you are doomed. We have tried heat and everything else, but it is just metal to metal and the O2 sensor is generally destroyed.
wreckwriter 06-23-2008, 11:09 AM Just in case, do you guys know the part number for the sensors? Is this type used in other vehicles too or just G8?
redrocket 06-23-2008, 11:20 AM I have it a home. I will post it when I get off work tonight.

Thanks much!

Pre Cat - 12569429
Post Cat - 92068713
wreckwriter 06-23-2008, 12:20 PM Thanks Kirk! There are 2 on each side?
unixadm 06-23-2008, 12:29 PM You only need the post sensors to deal with a cat back situation. Otherwise there are two pre-sensor, and two post-sensors.
I had no problems removing my O2 sensors on my G8 GT when I installed the Magnaflow Catback.

OK, good. Thanks much.
That's just great..............
The dealer replaced mine because they thought it was bad.
Now, when I go to Mod it will be fubar.............
unixadm 06-23-2008, 11:00 PM If the dealer replaced it, chances are you are in good shape. Not every car has a problem with removing them. Like I said above my car was fine. A 7/8" wrench and about five minutes had both O2 sensors out and ready to be installed in the new system I installed.
Panther 2 06-24-2008, 08:05 AM I had both, the same as your when I instaled the Magnaflow exhaust, threads are 18mm . Cleaned the threads and reinstalled them ,work fine . Early Z06 corvette has the same 02 sensor ,cheaper also

Do you have the part # for the ZO6 sensor?
haddadmotorsports 06-24-2008, 02:44 PM Just to confirm for you guys.
On average 1 out of every two cars we do we lose at least one 02 sensor due to these issues.
And we presoak them with penetrant and then apply heat, this saves most but some just were not meant to ever come out. At least not with any of there threads intact.
Thanks

freelancer 06-25-2008, 11:44 AM Had the same problem on the GTO and since I have replaced the rears again. I am guessing that the original replacements where not OE and failed prematurely. I replaced with OE and have not had a problem since.
haddadmotorsports 06-25-2008, 12:45 PM Make sure you guys put a lil anti seize compound on the threads of all yer new stuff and the next time you shouldn't have any problems.
Thanks

racerx 06-25-2008, 01:34 PM 7/8 wrench? i thought it was metric?
Bobbo1084 06-25-2008, 01:53 PM I had the same problem when I put on my Magnaflow. The left o2 sensor was rubbish, took about 30 minutes to get it out with an o2 wrench. It was too stripped to re-use, so I had to go out in a hurry to get her up and running. Ended up having to use the o2 sensors from the '04-'06 GTO since it was almost 9pm by the time I'd thought about it.
Not a single problem yet. Even my buddy with a built '92 Mustang thinks my car sounds amazing.

22mm. most o2 sensor sockets are 7/8 / 22mm
unixadm 06-25-2008, 07:56 PM 22mm. most o2 sensor sockets are 7/8 / 22mm
Yup. I just happened to open the standard drawer on my Snap On toolbox when I was doing the O2 sensors. One drawer down would have netted me the 22mm since I separate all of my Mac/Snap On/Matco/Craftsman tools by SAE or Metric. They both get the job done in this case and I thought I'd have a harder time using my O2 socket, so the open end was my choice for this job.
