That would be me, and I'm glad I went to the trouble and expense of buying one soon after buying the car.

When my wife and I were leaving for a party on Sat evening, the TPMS warned me to check the left rear, and sure enough the pressure was down to 20 lbs and I had picked up a decking screw somewhere during the day. Fortunately it will be an easy repair.

I swear, I am a magnet for nails and screws. Our cars average one per year. That's the main reason I bought the spare - with me it's just a matter of (brief) time before I'll need one.

Zaphod, what are you using for a jack?

I agree 100% with you that a spare is needed in any car, even those with run flats!

I'm using a scissor jack that was rescued from a 1985 Subaru station wagon before it was sold. It had never been used. It has the correct longitudinal cutout in the lifting plate to fit around that welded flange on the car's lift points, and works like a champ.

Right. I decided to buy a 19" full-size spare, and found an ASA JH8 19" wheel with a Sumitomo 245/40 for $380 at Tire Rack online - mounted, balanced, and shipped.
