Hey all, figured I might as well sign up and see what the developments are like on the other side of the pond for everything Holden VE Commodore related :D I see that there's a lot of Aussie members here doing the same, including some that I know from Australian Holden forums, so that's great to see!

This is my V6 Holden Calais, thought I'd share it with you all:

PS- If anyone asks, the "L" in the window means I'm on my learners permit, I'm 18 in 3 weeks and that's when we can get our "probationary" licence here in VIC, Australia. (it's ridiculous, I know)

EDIT: Haha, probably should have posted this in the International section, sorry all!

Cheers,
-Rob. :driving:

You've got a $50K car at 17 ? I'm jealous - I had to borrow $2K to buy my first car, an HQ Premier, at 20.

Nice car - my brother has a Calais V.

Haha, $30k, it's a Nov. 06 build :)

Thanks guys, the mods I have planned are (hopefully) a HSV Senator front bar and airbags, just a long while of saving though, but I'll get there :D

What's the difference between a Calais and a Commodore? I like the interior, looks blacker than what they are putting in the G8

I wish someone could make their shifter mechanism work in our cars so the shifter moved to the left when in manual mode...

THAT would be sweet IMO.

Nice ride M8!

The Calais has many things the lower model Commodore's don't, it's the 'luxury' model of it's type.

The Calais has reverse sensors, LCD screen in the dash, partial leather interior, and many other options I can't really think of at the moment, I think it's akin to the GT? I'm not quite sure on that one, whichever the fully optioned model is in the G8 range.

The Commodore models have a few variants which don't have a screen or sensors etc, such as the Omega, SV6, SS and Berlina (the Berlina has a screen, but it's a monochrome small thing of sorts)

Then there's the V8 variant that's on par with options a la Calais, which is the SS-V, a very nice car indeed! But it's all about tastes, as you can get the Calais and Calais V in V6 or V8, so it's up to whatever you prefer.

Calais V is just like the Calais yet it has more features from standard, such as front sensors, DVD player, self-heating mirrors and windscreen wiper sensors.

As for engines, the SV6 and Calais V6 models come with a 195kW High Output engine, whereas Omega and Berlina V6 models only have a 150kW engine.

Another distinguishing feature from Calais to Commodore models is the amount of sound deadener in the car, makes it a very quiet car to drive much like the luxury cars in the higher end such as BMW or Mercedes.

The Calais and Calais V were benchmarked to the BMW 3 series, then stripped down on features for other models, so the Calais is indeed a very nice car to own, and I can easily compare it to the old man's BMW :) Very happy with it!

I'm sure shifting it to the right isn't too bad! In perspective I'm shifting mine the same way as yours, just mirrored :P

Thanks for all the positive comments guys!

Got my white walls this weekend, I'm loving it :D Anyone consider this as an option should do it! Best money I've spent on the car so far :)
