I didn't have a Dashhawk before I installed my HSRK so now I'm a bit clueless regarding what the IAT normally reads (with and without HSRK) and under what conditions one should be reading it to measure gains. Any clues appreciated!

Whats the ambient air temp? In a perfect world that's what you'd want you IAT to be. Of course, as we know, under neath the hood of a G8 is not a perfect world. It's more like the surface of Venus.
Normally, at 68 degrees, I'd see a 5 to 8 degree temp increase at speed. (55 or faster)
The hotter it is, the greater the temp disparity.
However, sitting at stop lights on a warm engine, and you can see temp deltas of 30-40 degrees or more.

The HSRK helps because the mass air gets so hot, but the HSRKs response time is way faster then the one in the air meter. If you look under the car you will see the car only draws air from about a half dollar sized hole. If u cut out the panel under that then block off the side facing the engine, u can actually at WOT see the IAT is less then the ext temp on your dash. I never could get it to do that until I made a panel. Just make 1 out of cardboard, then transfer to a piece of thin sheetmetal and paint black. Pilot hole 2 screws and install. It takes about 2 hours max to do it all. Hope this helps. Charlie

I finally got numbers today. Took my car to the dealer this morning. Sitting at a light, my iat was 135. Moving at 50 mph, the temp dropped to 109 very quickly. After quite a while, it dropped to 86. Ambient air temp was 76.

Open that lower panel and block off engine heat/cooling fan air and you will see that your IAT will drop to outside temp real fast! It will also take much longer for it to get to higher temps since you are not drawing in the hotter air.

View from side showing how the hot air draws into any air intake.
This is where you make a panel to block it off.

Sorry it took so long. I had some technical difficulties (me) with both camera/recorder. Now I have hired a tech support staff (wife) so everyone should be seeing a lot of pics and videos soon.:slap:

By doing this is there a greater (GRRR8'er) chance of water reaching one's air filter when it's raining or when driving thru pools of water? Do you suppose that the RotoFab ram air system in development will do much the same thing?

I guess if you went through at least 2 ft of water it would be possible, I have done some driving in bad rain up to 100 on a back road and filter was dry. Since it is not air tight water can not pool or build up. Yes I have talked to Kevin and tonight we are going to talk about what I did so he can work his fab magic. Charlie
