Hi Guys,
I managed to get one good picture after switching out my stock wheels and tires for 20 inch Breytons. I love the way the car looks now. 20 inch wheels should be a standard option on the G8. I will post more later this week.

Thanks,

Mike

P.S. I am selling off the stock wheels and tires. See the parts for sale section.

I had a tough time deciding the wheel color in the beginning. I love the racing look of the medium gray wheels, but the silver wheels seemed a little more elegant. I guess I am getting old ;). I also am a big fan of contrast, so with a black car the color offset is striking. That picture does not do it justice. I will definitely post more when I get them.

Looks really nice. However if you have MGM, you had better get Matte Gray! I have never owned a car that I have received so many compliments on. Everyday someone says something. That was NOT the case when it was STOCK tho.

WOW! That is TOTALLY stunning... I am really impressed how classy that looks.

Now I am undecided... your color combo looks almost perfect, but I am also debating a red GXP with these wheels in black.

Hmmm.

Anyway, post MORE PHOTOS when you get a chance! I'd love to see this car from some more angles!

I like the wheels a lot. I am almost set on the Breyton's for my Red G8GT. Pretty sure on the Breyton Race GTS, 19s with the optional rear fitment. Staggered width with wider rear tires is just my personal taste. I don't want the extra weight and less rubber with the 20s. My questions for those of you out there are this: 1) The OEM tires are 245 40 R19. Tire Rack does not show on the website, that the (optional) rear tires (the Bridgestone RE050A) which should be 275 35 19, as coming in just R19. They only show as 275 35 ZR19. I want to keep the same tires on the front to save bucks since the specs would be exactly the same in front and I DO KNOW that the Bridgestone's DO come in just regular 275 35R19. But Tire Rack just shows that they have the ZR version. So I want to know does it matter if you have just R on the front but Z-rated tires on the rear if they are the same brand and really the same tire?
2) I've never thought about painting the calipers, but I guess it is a subtle thing that adds style. What is involved? I wouldnt do it myself. Where can one take the car to have them painted and is it as simple as spraying them with red paint or whatever color paint you want?

Thanks.

Yes it matters... but not really. A truely Z-rated tire is considered 'safe' at much higher top speeds than a non-Z rated tire.

BUT, I did the same search you just mentioned, and both front and optional rear fitments came up as Z-rated tires... so I am confused about what you are looking for.?

These are what came up given your search criteria:

Front: 245/40ZR19
Rear: 275/35ZR19

So what am I missing?

Oh, and P.S. the stock G8 GT can't go fast enough to really use truely Z rated tires.

There aren't many cars out there that REQUIRE Z rated tires. The bugatti Veyron is one of them... However... it runs out of fuel before it runs out of tire :)

The price wasn't too bad for 20's with Goodyear Eagle F1 GS-D3's. The tires were on sale and may still be that is why I purchased them. I wanted the best tire I could get with the wheels for around $2600.00. With sensors they came to $2,548.00, I still have to claim the $50.00 rebate as well.

The Goodyear Eagle F1 GS-D3's are great. The dry traction is as good as or better than the stock Bridgestones and the ride is better for sure. One added benefit is the wet traction. I have been caught in two downpours in the last week and I had much better traction. I like this 20 inch wheel/tire set-up so much a may buy a full spare.

Z rated just mean 149 MPH or higher. Yes, the G8 is limited to 137 from the factory, but if all you do is take the limiter off you'll have no problem breaking 150. W rated tires will handle up to 168 MPH, Y 186 MPH and (Y) over 186 MPH.

If you plan on doing any mods to your car I'd say get Y rated tires. You may not ever find the space to do 168 MPH, but you're car will be capable of it so better to be safe than sorry. :)

My father said almost the same thing when I told him the cost. I sold off other parts I had laying around to buy the wheels so the hit wasn't bad. Also, I had been looking into cars in the $40,000.00 range originally so the extra parts price seemed justified when you look at the price difference......at least that is how I sell it to my wife ;). They are a little pricey, but for the look it was worth it.

All the Bridgestones are Z rated in the 245/40 and 275/35 sizes. Z is a category of tires able to exceed 149 mph. The true speed rating is found in the service description (94W fronts, 96Y on the rears depending on model). When we put a package together, we'd like to match the same speed rating on both axles so the cornering characteristics will be consistant.

That price included Goodyear Eagle F1 GS-D3's and sensors. I don't think you can do 20 inch CCW's, sensors and Goodyears for anywhere near $2600.00. Plus these arrived balanced and ready to install.

Why spend money that you don't have too? The wheels look great and will handle all of the performance I throw at them. No point in spending money just to say you can.

Yup. That's what I mean't. A STOCK G8 cannot exceed the limits of a Z rated tire... once you start modifying things then you need to pick tires accordingly! The G8 motor (unrestricted) should easily put you up to 175mph (based on the Top Gear review of the Vauxhall VXR8 which is very similar), and with modification you could go much faster!

I'm not saying that your wheels are crap. I'm just expressing my thoughts that despite some opinions in this thread, I don't think $2,600 is a lot for a 20" wheel/tire combo. I never said you needed to spend more

With that being said, have you ever put a significantly lighter rim on your car? Yes, forging makes rims stronger but the big advantage is the weight savings. Saving lbs of rotational mass is a lot different than just ordinary weight savings.

Oh, I completely understand and you are correct. $2600.00 is cheap for this set-up. I have had very light magnesium racing wheels on my track Cobra and they do make a difference in weight. There is just no need for the expense on a street driven car was my point.

I had used masking tape to try the emblems in different spots. At first I had them in the same area as the chicklets. Didn't like it. I know this is where the SS Commodores have them. Keep in mind this is a G8 and not a Commodore ;) so the sky is the limit. I tried them in a few other places as well, but the best place by far was under the vents. It gave the car a very high end look and was a little reminiscent of the badge placement on the Mercedes SL55 AMG except below the vent instead of on top. Too each there own. I have been going for a classy look as opposed to the racing look. That is why I went with silver wheels as well.

Damn I love those Breyton wheels on your car!!! I bought 20" Boss 331's in chrome and I am so tempted to buy a set of these. I like the Race CS wheels also as they have the lip and look like they may be a little more shiny...not as much as the chrome though. Do you like the looks of your silver wheels with the chrome trim on the car?

Wonder what I could get for my Boss wheels and tires on here.
