Took the car to get tuned by a reputable shop today. I know there are differences with the dyno, the day, weather, and the car but I was hoping for more granted the other numbers posted.

Dynojet - SAE corrected

Stock - 298rwhp, 314rwtq
Tuned - 311rwhp, 323rwtq

This was on 93 octane.

Conditions: 88 degrees F, 20% Humidity, 29.72 Barometer, 1.0 Correction

I realize peak numbers aren't everything so the test will be when I hit the track in the fall when the weather cools down a bit.

A/F was set to 12.9/13.0 with about 26 degrees of timing and I was told that I may see another 7 or 8 rwhp on a day with better air.

SOTP the car felt stronger for sure so I guess its time to keep modding.

It's not at all what all the tuners are posting, but I wonder if their numbers are corrected to SAE like yours were? Then again, if the before and after runs were uncorrected or just standard it should be apples to apples. I think it seems a little low.

Don't worry. All you need is a roto-fab intake and you will get another 22hp and 22ft.lbs.

BTW. Did you have the TCM tuned as well? If so what changes were made?

thats not terrible. It's not the 30+ RWHP that vector promises with their ECM/TCM tune but hey, it's an improvement.

TCM was tuned as well. Feels much better and now shifts the way its supposed to. Def. feels like a different car.

I'm waiting on a few more intakes to hit the market before I make my final choice.

Car is bone stock

13rwhp/9rwtq aren't bad numbers at all especially bone stock, where did you end up taking it? TTP?

Yea I took it to TTP, not to be confused with Tune Time Performance. The guys there are always extremely nice and answer all the questions I have...which are a lot. When I continue to mod the car, I will be taking it back there for a retune to make sure everything is where it should be.

Driving into work today, the car felt very very strong in the cooler air as opposed to the heat yesterday. I guess the IAT temps really do mess with this car a lot. Also, my MPG went way up and I'm going to run a few cycles to see exactly how much. I was seeing 25+ on my commute where I normally see 20. Again, I will continue to drive it as normal to get some more miles on the car and data.

Yesterday I ran my buddies WRX that I ran before the tune, and I pulled an extra 3 cars on him off a roll so that tells me just about all I need to know until I make it back to the track. :)

I looked back at the VMS tune that showed a bone stock Dyno before and after their tune:

Stock: 304 rwhp / 315 rwtq
Tuned: 335 rwhp / 348 rwtq

That's a gain of 31 rwhp and 33 rwtq with only an ECU tune. That's quite a difference between what your tune netted and the VMS tune. Wonder why it's so different? I would think most tuners would be tinkering with the same basic things (spark advance, a/f ratio, tq. management, etc.)

Honestly I am not educated enough with tuning to speak for any of the tuners. However, I do feel I have a decent understanding of what it would take to get more power out of the car which are things you have already mentioned (spark, a/f, tq, management, etc).

Numerous factors could attribute to lower readings and even lower delta's including the dyno used, the settings of that dyno, atmospheric conditions, the car...I could go on and on.

The true test will be to take it back to the track and see what it does. Dyno numbers are only as pretty as the timeslips that back them up.

Tune Time Performance in the latest issue of GMHTP picked up similar results with their stock car- tune only and the car gained significant results in the 1/4 mi.

Check the date on the other tune. I bet the weather was a lot cooler. Even so, his tune is pretty good for no mods. When you get an intake you a/f is most likely going to change. Is your tuner able to re-tune you?

Blackbirdws6, I highly recommend your next mod be a system from American Racing Headers. Without a doubt you'll see performance improvements that surpasses just about all other mods.

My tuner will certainly be able to retune when I do some more mods to it. He has my A/F pretty close to optimum so I would want to get it retuned with an intake anyway just to make sure it's not leaning it out too far.

Looks like a decent gain...did they use HP tuners or do u know the software? A gain is a gain....you said your SOTP feel was alot better...thats what counts..

We noticed over her in OZ that there wasn't any where near the gains that you can get on an lS1 tune only.
It appears the stock tune is pretty good to start with from factory. They don't appear to like much timing in them stock as they can be prone to KR even at 24* timing.

What really wakes these motors up is a good set of pipes and intake. I have seen gains of 60hp+ with a good exhaust system, intake and tune.

cheers

They used HPTuners to tune the car. The SOTP feel does count but I'm just waiting for the fall to run the car at the track. I have a feeling if I went now it would just be a waste because the DA will be through the roof.

I've gained 57 rwhp and 48 rwtq with ARH headers , New Era Intake , and Powerbond underdrive pulley , and custom tune .
