First off, this is a repost from a reply I made a month ago. Since we now have a new DIY forum, I am reposting it as it's own thread to be moved into that section. So if you have seen it before I apologize. For those of you that find this useful, good luck and have fun!

Take a hair dryer and some fishing line. Put the hair dryer about 1" from the badge you are removing. Let it run on high for about 45 sec to 1 minute.

Take the fishing line and run it back and forth behind the badge....you will essentially saw off the logo. Careful!! ITS HOT!

What is left is residual adhesive. This I was able remove by grabbing a corner with my thumb and finger and peeling away.

The rest I was able to rub off with my thumb and I buffed the remaining little stuff off with a clean cloth. (Some people have used goo gone, but I did not need to) Looks great, took about 30 min to do the GM logos on the side, the pontiac arrowhead on the trunk and the "pontiac" on the trunk. Someone recomended getting a stool to sit on while you do this, great advice Hope this helps to anyone debadging. I think it makes the car look very clean and unique. I am not at all ashamed of Pontiac or GM, I am extremely proud to drive this car. I just like the cleaner look.

I have recently removed my front Arrowhead, so I am including some pics of this as well for those of you that may want to do the same.

Here you can see the 3 holes that the pinned emblem mounts on. The same type of adhesive is used on this one as well. What I had to do was gently pry the emblem up on the sides a bit and get the fishing line under the top pin and worked my way down doing each side seperately. I broke a lot of line doing this, not sure if it is because the emblem has been on the car for a year and a half, or because of the curve in the nose, so it took a little more work but eventually came free. There are no clips on the back holding the emblem in place, just straight guide pins as you can see in the image below.

If you get the car soon after it was built, only 20 lb fishing line is required. Others have used plastic puddy knifes with good results. The important thing is not to harm the paint. The double stick tape comes off easy with just a little bit of WD-40 and a microfiber cloth. Apply wax after wiping WD-40 off.

Took me 5 min but only removed the Pontiac.

The only badge on the car (as far as I can tell) that is NOT stuck on with adhesive is the Arrowhead on the front bumper just below the hood. It actually mounts through a hole in the bumper. If you remove it you will have a couple of holes visible. Aside from that, all the other badges are stuck on.

yes, you can see where the holes actually are on the front emblem. top two anyways. all of them come off the back fairly easy :)

Good tut. I usually put a layer of polish and then wax over the spot so you don't see the outline of the badge.

That's exactly what I did. The chrome G8 , GT look good on the panther black. I have had a lot of people pull along side to ask what kind of awesome car I am driving. They can't tell unless they see the Pontiac front end and then they can't believe it is a Pontiac.

Just did my small GM badges. Just put some heat to it with the heat gun and grabbed the upper edge with two fingers. Came off clean with all the sticky material intact. I could even reuse them if i wanted.

Thanks for the tip. I removed the GM, GT, and Pontiac badges. IMO it looks much cleaner. I left the G8 badge so that the poor saps know what just smoked them. :driving:

Great info. Just removed the side chicklets and trunk "PONTIAC".

Another tip: if there is any sticky residue left Isopropyl Rubbing Alcohol will take it off with a couple quick wipes.

And for double-sided tape, hobby shops carry super thin foam stuff like the factory install.

Had my husband remove the pontiac off the trunk..he made a small chip next to where the p would be..i thought he would of been able to handle the job, should of done it myself. i told him that's all i wanted taken off, went back later on and took the gm off myself...now have to invest in mgm touch up paint and fill the chip or replace the pontiac over it...he says to me its really small no one will notice but i can and thats enough for me....

Use transparent colored tape and the reflector will still reflect at night.

I found the tape on ebaY. Look for Grey to achieve black, I used blue.

Thanks..... and I went 35% on the front and 5% limo on the back and rear. FormulaOne Ceramic Tint (Pinnacle Series). It's a quality product.

everything but the front emblem is easy to remove.....just like the tutorial says. I am going to remove the front one once I get a few rock chips and get the front end painted......My dealer installed the dam front plate holder :slap:

I removed the GM "chiclets" on the sides, and the PONTIAC badging on the rear, by using a hair blowdryer. Just heat up the foam adhesive on the back and they twist off.

That's what I used but it's doable without it. 20 pound test fishing line and they came right off. A bit of 3M decal/adhesive remover and you're golden.

The 3M stuff works A LOT better than the other stuff people post about. I've used it all and the 3M stuff is amazing.

Sure! It had rained several days when I took this. Also you will see that the stealer let the bit walk when they drilled the holes which left a void under the clear vinyl which looks like poop up close but you can't see from afar! Oh and I took these with my iPhone so quality is VERY low.

I know others have had success, but for me using WD40 and/or alcohol I could still see an outline of the badge's adhesive. In fact it just seemed to smear the adhesive to a wider area. Earlier posters sweared by the 3M decal/adhesive remover. I have not used it myself but they said it worked awesome.

Just finished removing most of the badges. Removed the "GM Chiclets", GT and PONTIAC lettering. Reason being on the back I now just "Pontiac G8". See pictures below:

Took my chickies off 2 days ago finally. Still need to remove the Pontiac in the back, but its 15 degrees out now...so I'll wait. I wasn't sure how easy they would come off seeing as my car is almost a year old now and it was 40 degrees out.

As many other members have said: a blow dryer, some dental floss (mint), and Goo Gone. Piece of cake. No residue left at all.

Any of you who swapped the G8 and GT...what did you use to stick it back on? What was the thickness if you bought new stripping? Thx in advance.

My dealer wound up putting one of those stickers saying the dealership name on it, it's just a sticker, should i just heat it up and take it off?? I'm definitely going to take off the gm badges and seeing how some of these cars are coming out, thinking about taking off the pontiac and the arrowhead as well. Damn they look sweet. Meguire's Cleaner Wax will take care of that, or any wax that polishes too.

Just wanted to throw out there that I used Turtle Wax brand bug & tar remover to gently remove the adhesive from the Pontiac letters I removed off my G8. It helps gently break apart the adhesive WHILE adding a light coat of wax so no scratches whatsoever. I applied it a few times until it all eventually faded away. Can't tell anything was ever there.

What's with the dealer-provided decal on the trunk? I'm okay with a dealer license plate frame, but I don't get why dealers think it's okay to slap that decal on the cars they sell or why owners put up with that. Soooo glad they don't do that out here in Cali.

I'm glad you posted that pic, I'm going to have an extra V8 badge and that's where I wanted to put it. I think it looks good. First thing I did, before I drove off the dealer lot was have them take off their logo. Then I went home and took of the Pontiac letters. I think when I get my GXP front end I'm going to leave the badge off, then take off the GT, Pontiac arrow, and G8.... and replace them with the Holden lion :drink:

Wow, i have to say I LOVE the placement of the V-8 badge! I was considering buying those badges but did not know where to put them to look the best. i am definately going to use that idea!

Also, as to the dealer Sticker. I would have strung my salesman up by the jewels if he would have put a dealer sticker on my G8.

I found a pair of them on Ebay for $40 AU, but the seller wants another $40 AU for shipping so I don't think you would be interested. That's highway robbery on the shipping cost! The seller I bought mine from charged me about $5 to ship three badges from AU to USA.

Drglock the badge comes with the adhesive on the back, I just peeled off the protective paper and stuck it on the car. Here's a pic of where I put them on the front fenders.

Probably a stick on but I would call them and ask them to remove it. My dealer puts only a small American flag decal in the lower left rear window

I love the de-badged look. I read through this post and love all the different ways people make their car their "own". I decided to remove all badges except the triangles in front and back. I like the symmetry look. Let me know what you think. Sorry about the picture quality it is from my phone.

I bought a full set of Holden badges from Crazy Paul (nice guy!), they showed up this morning so I'm itching to put them on now. He helped me find one that would replace the arrowhead on the front of the car, so I'll post pics of it when I've got them in place. I even bought one to put on the steering wheel to replace the arrowhead there.. LOL

My dealer is paying to fix a couple stone chips (I bought the demo), so I'm going to have the paint shop fix up the holes from the arrowhead on the front at the same time. No more arrowheads for me, lions all around instead!!

I bought mine used in December with 20K miles and I didn't notice any fading after I debadged it in March.

I still have to remove the chicklets.. I will most likely switch positions of G8 and GT, from right to left, and possibly top to bottom.. or I may just get rid of them...

On the Pontiac emblem of the back of the G8 GT, are the letters separate? Also, do

they have to come off one at a time?

Thanks! Worked like a charm. Sat on a small stool to make it easier. Most of the gunk came right off, I just used some bug/tar remover to clean the area and then waxed. I immediately got a lot more looks and a bunch of, "what is THAT," questions.

I plan to swap out the hubs on the rims (I'd really like to go with Vauxhall to be REALLY different) and I'm strongly considering having the Pontiac emblem removed up front and the area patched/painted to match.

Yes you just peal off the paper backing and stick them on your car.

I'm in the process of removing all pontiac emblems for "HOLDEN" ones...I want to remove front arrow head but I'm hearing there are either holes or indents when you remove it!?!?!...HELP PLEASE!!!

Yep there are holes behind the front arrowhead, you'll have to fill them and repaint.

I don't know! I made them take it off mine before I drove if off the lot! I told them I would be happy to refer them business, but just not slapped on the back of my investment...They took it off, can't tell it was ever there...

Does anyone know where I can find adhesive similar to what the OEM's use? I found a liquid that works a lot like superglue but I'd rather have it be more gel based so I could use this same process to take it off again.

Just took the "Pontiac" letters off the back...looks a lot better now imo. But, it took a while to get the residue off the back even with Goo Gone...worth the effort though.

I've always used the 3M Adhesive Remover when debadging. Gets the let over residue off really well.

Going to finish mine here in next day or two.

I took off the chiclets on the side and the g8 and gxp on the back. Here is a pic.

I just did this yesterday. A little bit of heat, some fishing line, and let the residue soak in goo gone for a few minutes. It rubbed right off.

My car came with a sticker on the back from my dealer.
It appears that the sticker is not one piece, rather every letter is its own sticker. There are many letters....
What is the best way to remove something like this?

Wash the car, then peel the letters off, use goo gone to get rid of the sticky, wash that area again and wax.

I used a hair dryer to heat up the sticker and removed it with a credit card. I tried to peel it off without heat but it kept tearing in little pieces.

I just used my fingernail for the dealer stickers. No heat. I also used fish line for the badges and peeled off the excess tape. What was left, I just used a orange cleaner to remove it.

If the G8 was a Chevy I would understand....I almost bought a new Malibu LTZ because I loved the styling so much (looks like an acura or similar, IMO)..but the big ass bowtie just ruined it for me. That's why I am praying the G8 doesn't come back as a Chevy....I want it to be a Regal! And throw a turbo on it!!

I can see where you're coming from there...With all the chrome trim it can be a bit much...

I took the chicklets off to make room for some V8 badges. Then I stuck one of the chicklets on the shifter plate on the center console.

this is what confused people

I just took off the side GM badges, Pontiac logo on trunk, and Pontiac word on trunk. Looks much cleaner now.

Hit mine yesterday with a few seconds with a heat gun, pulled the chiclets on the side and all from the back. Left the one up front, for now....
Had 3 people doing double takes and then ask me "what kind of car is that?"

simply wait until about midday and then go out there and twist them off. The sticky foam used to mount them softens up easily.

As far as the dealer sticker is concerned, I do not want it there. I noticed it when I got the car home and promptly removed it. Unless they are going to pay my payment for me, they aren't getting any free advertising. I even swapped out the dealer license plate frame.

I plan to remove all badging with the exception of the front arrowhead (at this time) and the G8/GT emblems. The rest is going to go.

I took out the GM chiclets, and Pontiac name, left the arrows cause i like them.
I renamed the car though :), because without the Pontiac letters the name was weird to read, so i just swapped the 8 with the T.

Very clean look...Really want to do this...but also really like showing off my G8 GT...still torn.

I had only G8 GT for awhile because I was in the same boat. Then I just did the rest. Mine is naked as a jay bird, less the front emblem. I like it so much better. Just so clean and no emblems to catch your towel when you're drying it and easier to wax. Plus, then people will wonder what the heck it is they're looking at.

Throw the GXP rear diffuser on there and it will really complete your look!

However on the passenger side, after removing the badge and adhesive there is still an outline of the badge. The outline appears to be straight paint without a clear coat on it. I have tried clay bar, WD-40, bug and tar remover and polish, followed by wax and nothing helps. Honestly you can't really see it but we all know if there is something wrong on our cars don't we? Any ideas? This is really preventing me from removing the Pontiac letters from the trunk so I'm hoping to clear this up.

Try Goo Gone, this worked well for me on the back emblem's..have not tried to remove the side one's though.

You may have to get a polisher and wheel it out.

Yeah, like others have said, try some Goo Gone or 3M General Adhesive Remover. I've had very good luck with the 3M stuff in teh past. As for the polishing, you mayve to take a PC / Flex 3401 / rotary to it. If this is not an option due to cost, try ordering a hand polishing pad (foam) and some polish with some actual cut to it Maybe a medium cut polish, such as Menzerna 203 PowerFinish or Prima Swirl along with a medium cut foam pad. Just make sure to re-apply some sealant / wax afterwards as these polishes will strip any wax you have on.

Thanks for the input. I definitely want the PC sometime in the future but I don't think it will be anytime soon for financial reasons. Any idea what caused this on one side and not the other? And what are the odds the PONTIAC letters will leave an outline?

well after reading 9 pages, of mostly good luck, i'm gonna try to do the chicklets and the pontiac letters...looks like everyone did this as their cars were newer, my 09 was built in may/08....so its quite literally been on the street for 3 years....but those ugly letters and badges need to leave!

edit, came off easy enough, but there is too much of a lip from 3yrs, so i dont want any ghosting, so i'm going to put the one badge i tried to cleanly remove (gm chicklet) back on...ah well...maybe next summer i'll buy a polishing wheel and try it again? ;p

front will have holes once you take off the badge. that's why i left my rear badge on and only took of "Pontiac G8" and "GT".

if you have holes, you might want to plug them up and get it repainted.

Front badge removal will require body work and refinishing of the bumper cover. It's not like taking off the rear emblem.

I just did mine over the weekend and one thing I found was using a clay bar on the area helped remove the slight lines left behind. Polish after and done. Looks so much better.

It comes off just as easily as the rear does.

go to a body shop, give him 10 bucks.. he will magic eraser wheel it off and do a quick buff on that spot.

I have just recently bought my 09 g8, has anyone had problems with taking the emblems off and having lines? also i am reading about holes in the front emblem? is it held on by bolts or the adhesive?

There are bolts holding the front arrowhead in place - so if you do remove it you'll have two holes visible -- no lines noticeable here, you may have some slight fade since the paint under the badges weren't exposed to the sun/elements all this time...

Actually i was hoping to take it off, paint it black and put in back on and that makes it so much easier. any tips on gettin rid of the fade? thanks for the help

Just what he said. The clay will help remove deposit lines and the polish will finish the job. You would never know my car had all the badges on it.
