: Debadging Tutorial with Pics
drglock 06-26-2008, 03:44 PM First off, this is a repost from a reply I made a month ago. Since we now have a new DIY forum, I am reposting it as it's own thread to be moved into that section. So if you have seen it before I apologize. For those of you that find this useful, good luck and have fun!
Take a hair dryer and some fishing line. Put the hair dryer about 1" from the badge you are removing. Let it run on high for about 45 sec to 1 minute.
http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3250/2509969367_bf1f4c0658.jpg?v=0
Take the fishing line and run it back and forth behind the badge....you will essentially saw off the logo. Careful!! ITS HOT!
http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3138/2510800994_8096fa70e3.jpg?v=0
What is left is residual adhesive. This I was able remove by grabbing a corner with my thumb and finger and peeling away.
http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2397/2509969287_b1da76dd22.jpg?v=0
The rest I was able to rub off with my thumb and I buffed the remaining little stuff off with a clean cloth. (Some people have used goo gone, but I did not need to) Looks great, took about 30 min to do the GM logos on the side, the pontiac arrowhead on the trunk and the "pontiac" on the trunk. Someone recomended getting a stool to sit on while you do this, great advice Hope this helps to anyone debadging. I think it makes the car look very clean and unique. I am not at all ashamed of Pontiac or GM, I am extremely proud to drive this car. I just like the cleaner look.
I have recently removed my front Arrowhead, so I am including some pics of this as well for those of you that may want to do the same.

Here you can see the 3 holes that the pinned emblem mounts on. The same type of adhesive is used on this one as well. What I had to do was gently pry the emblem up on the sides a bit and get the fishing line under the top pin and worked my way down doing each side seperately. I broke a lot of line doing this, not sure if it is because the emblem has been on the car for a year and a half, or because of the curve in the nose, so it took a little more work but eventually came free. There are no clips on the back holding the emblem in place, just straight guide pins as you can see in the image below.

SRG963 06-26-2008, 03:53 PM Good info.
If you get the car soon after it was built, only 20 lb fishing line is required. Others have used plastic puddy knifes with good results. The important thing is not to harm the paint. The double stick tape comes off easy with just a little bit of WD-40 and a microfiber cloth. Apply wax after wiping WD-40 off.
Took me 5 min but only removed the Pontiac.

TexasG8 06-26-2008, 04:07 PM I used a gift card (Credit Card) and they came off really easy.

I need all the weight savings I can get, since im not losing any lol..I think its worth at least .001 in the quarter no?
Seriously though...thanks for the how to....going to try it as soon as I can steal the Hair dryer from my gfs house :wink2:
jaxredg8 06-26-2008, 06:26 PM So which emblems, if any, are not applied with tape or 3m type material? I dont want to pull off something and need to have holes filled. I have the 6.0 LITRE badges and some holden stuff I would love to apply. Thanks for the info.

The only badge on the car (as far as I can tell) that is NOT stuck on with adhesive is the Arrowhead on the front bumper just below the hood. It actually mounts through a hole in the bumper. If you remove it you will have a couple of holes visible. Aside from that, all the other badges are stuck on.
jaxredg8 06-26-2008, 07:33 PM thanks!

yes, you can see where the holes actually are on the front emblem. top two anyways. all of them come off the back fairly easy :)

So... what is the paint code for Heron White???
G8GT594 06-28-2008, 08:47 AM Good tut. I usually put a layer of polish and then wax over the spot so you don't see the outline of the badge.
Mrthemike 06-28-2008, 09:25 AM I think i'm gonna remove the GM logo, rear arrowhead and the "pontiac" but keep the g8 and gt.
GR8 Vino 06-28-2008, 10:24 AM I think i'm gonna remove the GM logo, rear arrowhead and the "pontiac" but keep the g8 and gt.
That's exactly what I did. The chrome G8 , GT look good on the panther black. I have had a lot of people pull along side to ask what kind of awesome car I am driving. They can't tell unless they see the Pontiac front end and then they can't believe it is a Pontiac.
haddadmotorsports 06-30-2008, 03:35 PM Just did my small GM badges. Just put some heat to it with the heat gun and grabbed the upper edge with two fingers. Came off clean with all the sticky material intact. I could even reuse them if i wanted.
Thanks
Mike Haddad
g8_795 06-30-2008, 05:48 PM Thanks for the tip. I removed the GM, GT, and Pontiac badges. IMO it looks much cleaner. I left the G8 badge so that the poor saps know what just smoked them. :driving:

I think I may have to agree with you. I may try to move my G8 over to the left.
Can anybody suggest some good tape to use?

New badges are $9
I did that already. Plus I had them painted black.
Mach 5 07-20-2008, 09:30 PM Great info. Just removed the side chicklets and trunk "PONTIAC".
Another tip: if there is any sticky residue left Isopropyl Rubbing Alcohol will take it off with a couple quick wipes.
And for double-sided tape, hobby shops carry super thin foam stuff like the factory install.

ag0514 07-24-2008, 10:32 PM Had my husband remove the pontiac off the trunk..he made a small chip next to where the p would be..i thought he would of been able to handle the job, should of done it myself. i told him that's all i wanted taken off, went back later on and took the gm off myself...now have to invest in mgm touch up paint and fill the chip or replace the pontiac over it...he says to me its really small no one will notice but i can and thats enough for me....
VEE SSV 07-25-2008, 02:25 AM Lol thats some bad luck :\.. i always do stuff on my SSV myself.. prefer to have it done right the first time lol..

Gearhead 10-28-2008, 05:45 PM I removed the GM "chiclets" on the sides, and the PONTIAC badging on the rear, by using a hair blowdryer. Just heat up the foam adhesive on the back and they twist off.

Just get a GTO emblem. But I gotta ask - WHY?
fcsuper 11-09-2008, 02:40 PM .My dealer installed the dam front plate holder :slap:
Mine came with the plate holder too. I thought "Oh, I'll just take it off". Yeah right. It's attached from the inside! Arg. So I just put a fancy cover plate on it to bling it up a bit.

That's what I used but it's doable without it. 20 pound test fishing line and they came right off. A bit of 3M decal/adhesive remover and you're golden.
The 3M stuff works A LOT better than the other stuff people post about. I've used it all and the 3M stuff is amazing.

Sure! It had rained several days when I took this. Also you will see that the stealer let the bit walk when they drilled the holes which left a void under the clear vinyl which looks like poop up close but you can't see from afar! Oh and I took these with my iPhone so quality is VERY low.

I know others have had success, but for me using WD40 and/or alcohol I could still see an outline of the badge's adhesive. In fact it just seemed to smear the adhesive to a wider area. I went to bed kicking myself thinking I had screwed up. A quick stop at the local 3M distributor, a few sprays later and it's perfect.
Thanks for the tip, the 3M stuff is great - absolutely worth every penny.

Awesome wheels man! What brand and size?
Is the PONTIAC a pain to take off because of multiple small letters? Also, where could I find those 6.0 Liter logos?
SilverFox 02-18-2009, 09:35 AM Ok, I just removed the pontiac lettering. All the adhesive is gone and it looks good, but I noticed in certain light I can still see the pontiac letters. What would you recommend to remove this? Wax?

RatherBeInCabo 02-28-2009, 11:41 AM OK,

also, you should update your sig pic now... :)
majesticix 02-28-2009, 07:56 PM Took my chickies off 2 days ago finally. Still need to remove the Pontiac in the back, but its 15 degrees out now...so I'll wait. I wasn't sure how easy they would come off seeing as my car is almost a year old now and it was 40 degrees out.
As many other members have said: a blow dryer, some dental floss (mint), and Goo Gone. Piece of cake. No residue left at all.
Any of you who swapped the G8 and GT...what did you use to stick it back on? What was the thickness if you bought new stripping? Thx in advance.
GotMyG8V8 02-28-2009, 08:44 PM My dealer wound up putting one of those stickers saying the dealership name on it, it's just a sticker, should i just heat it up and take it off?? I'm definitely going to take off the gm badges and seeing how some of these cars are coming out, thinking about taking off the pontiac and the arrowhead as well. Damn they look sweet. I have the same problem as majest, too dang cold up here!
DRCUSTOMPARTS 02-28-2009, 09:04 PM Ok, I just removed the pontiac lettering. All the adhesive is gone and it looks good, but I noticed in certain light I can still see the pontiac letters. What would you recommend to remove this? Wax?
Meguire's Cleaner Wax will take care of that, or any wax that polishes too.

The GT on the left side seemed out of place. Should of had GT onthe right and G8 on the left.
wyd_trkr 03-01-2009, 04:26 PM The GT on the left side seemed out of place. Should of had GT onthe right and G8 on the left.Hmmmm, I just thought it was me, but you are correct in stating that the G8 should have been installed onto the left side of the truck lid and the GT on the right side. :)

What is the best way to remove a dealer sticker?
DRCUSTOMPARTS 03-01-2009, 05:41 PM No because it would say Pontiac GT instead of Pontiac G8, which is why they did it that way.
DRCUSTOMPARTS 03-01-2009, 05:43 PM Same question as GotmyV8G8:

A hairdryer to soften the adhesive and a credit card to scrape it off without scratching the paint.
WickedMom 03-01-2009, 06:29 PM No because it would say Pontiac GT instead of Pontiac G8, which is why they did it that way.
Well doesnt it say "GT Pontiac(arrowhead) Pontiac G8" then?
I am going to take off both pontiacs and switch the T and the 8.
Pretty sure I can con my trim tech at work to take em off for me :)
DRCUSTOMPARTS 03-01-2009, 07:30 PM No there's only one Pontiac and that's by G8.

prolex7 03-19-2009, 04:33 PM Just wanted to throw out there that I used Turtle Wax brand bug & tar remover to gently remove the adhesive from the Pontiac letters I removed off my G8. It helps gently break apart the adhesive WHILE adding a light coat of wax so no scratches whatsoever. I applied it a few times until it all eventually faded away. Can't tell anything was ever there.
G8BLBYU 03-19-2009, 05:13 PM No there's only one Pontiac and that's by G8.
http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a375/DonRome/G8-5.jpg
What's with the dealer-provided decal on the trunk? I'm okay with a dealer license plate frame, but I don't get why dealers think it's okay to slap that decal on the cars they sell or why owners put up with that. Soooo glad they don't do that out here in Cali.
DRCUSTOMPARTS 03-19-2009, 05:19 PM Yeah that big sticker was a pain in the rear to remove, it took me like a half an hour with a hair dryer and a credit card! Here's a new pic with it off and the Holden V8 badge I bought.

wyd_trkr 03-19-2009, 07:35 PM Much better!Where did you buy the V8 - 6.0 Badges? Can these be bought locally in the US? If yes, how much and from who? Thanks for the reply.
DRCUSTOMPARTS 03-19-2009, 08:03 PM I got them on Ebay and they came from Australia, they were $30 shipped for 3 of them with the US-AU dollar conversion. I just checked and the seller doesn't have any more for sale, but Crazy Paul has them for a little more. PM me if you need his website.
yianni64 03-20-2009, 01:28 AM Yeah that big sticker was a pain in the rear to remove, it took me like a half an hour with a hair dryer and a credit card! Here's a new pic with it off and the Holden V8 badge I bought.
http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a375/DonRome/P1030167.jpg
I'm glad you posted that pic, I'm going to have an extra V8 badge and that's where I wanted to put it. I think it looks good. First thing I did, before I drove off the dealer lot was have them take off their logo. Then I went home and took of the Pontiac letters. I think when I get my GXP front end I'm going to leave the badge off, then take off the GT, Pontiac arrow, and G8.... and replace them with the Holden lion :drink:
drglock 03-20-2009, 02:24 PM Wow, i have to say I LOVE the placement of the V-8 badge! I was considering buying those badges but did not know where to put them to look the best. i am definately going to use that idea!
Also, as to the dealer Sticker. I would have strung my salesman up by the jewels if he would have put a dealer sticker on my G8.
I am so glad to see that this thread is providing some useful support. keep up those beautiful debadged G8 pics! :)
Oh BTW wyd_trkr, I see those badges for sale on Ebay all the time, you will probably have some luck there.
and DRCUSTOMPARTS, what type of adhesive did you use to put the V8 badge on or did it come with the badge. Thanks!
wyd_trkr 03-20-2009, 02:45 PM Oh BTW wyd_trkr, I see those badges for sale on Ebay all the time, you will probably have some luck there.
If you know of a Ebay Link with these on sale for the V8 6.0 & V-Badges Emblems, please let me know. Thanks
DRCUSTOMPARTS 03-20-2009, 05:39 PM I found a pair of them on Ebay for $40 AU, but the seller wants another $40 AU for shipping so I don't think you would be interested. That's highway robbery on the shipping cost! The seller I bought mine from charged me about $5 to ship three badges from AU to USA.
Drglock the badge comes with the adhesive on the back, I just peeled off the protective paper and stuck it on the car. Here's a pic of where I put them on the front fenders.

You know, a couple months ago there were bunches of those things on Ebay. i looked over the weekend and there were none LOL
Anyways, i am looking for a set now too, but if I find any I will be sure to let you know and post here.
Snakey 03-23-2009, 06:10 PM I just debadged my car this weekend in preperation for my newly purchased (by my fiancee, god i love this woman) V8 badges. I also took off the Pontiac lettering on the deck lid. Must admit it really cleans the car up.
DRCUSTOMPARTS 03-23-2009, 07:27 PM drglock PM sent
nmerhaut 03-24-2009, 05:29 PM Had my husband remove the pontiac off the trunk..he made a small chip next to where the p would be..i thought he would of been able to handle the job, should of done it myself. i told him that's all i wanted taken off, went back later on and took the gm off myself...now have to invest in mgm touch up paint and fill the chip or replace the pontiac over it...he says to me its really small no one will notice but i can and thats enough for me....
Is he related to Rob Moser's wife???:)
nmerhaut 03-24-2009, 05:31 PM Debadged "Black Betty" today. Hair dryer, 20 lb fishing line, WD-40, 70% Alcohol, Wax. No scrathes and looks super-clean. Added the V-badge I just got from down under.
That's very similar to the V badge on my old CTS-V. Kind of neat.
nmerhaut 03-24-2009, 05:36 PM My idiot dealer put oneof his dealership emblems right above the
Pontiac G8 emblem on my trunk. Wonder how it it is attached?
It looks like it is plastic though. I would also like to take the
Pontiac emblem off too. Any ideas?
Thanks,
Bob:pir_flag:
Probably a stick on but I would call them and ask them to remove it. My dealer puts only a small American flag decal in the lower left rear window
Tarp09GT 04-05-2009, 07:53 PM I love the de-badged look. I read through this post and love all the different ways people make their car their "own". I decided to remove all badges except the triangles in front and back. I like the symmetry look. Let me know what you think. Sorry about the picture quality it is from my phone.
http://i65.photobucket.com/albums/h214/malexarellano/photo.jpg
romeyjdogg 04-06-2009, 08:43 AM I removed the Pontiac lettering and just left GT G8. Yesterday I actually had out the goo gone and fishing line again to remove the G8 and GT and just leave the arrowhead, but I got a phone call and forgot about it. I may still do it, looks good!
Pinchy 04-06-2009, 04:47 PM I bought a full set of Holden badges from Crazy Paul (nice guy!), they showed up this morning so I'm itching to put them on now. He helped me find one that would replace the arrowhead on the front of the car, so I'll post pics of it when I've got them in place. I even bought one to put on the steering wheel to replace the arrowhead there.. LOL
My dealer is paying to fix a couple stone chips (I bought the demo), so I'm going to have the paint shop fix up the holes from the arrowhead on the front at the same time. No more arrowheads for me, lions all around instead!!

I want to do the same, what did you find for the front end? I bought a lot of things from him and I'm very happy with the service.
BlackGT5 04-09-2009, 08:57 AM Good write up. Thanks for the info. I want to take off the GM and Pontiac badges.
HSVLS3 04-12-2009, 07:06 AM I bought a full set of Holden badges from Crazy Paul (nice guy!), they showed up this morning so I'm itching to put them on now.
The guys in Oz are busy putting Chev badges and Pontiac goodies on their VE's. I wonder if the Ford guys are putting Mazda badges on their cars. :err:
Silver G8 GT 05-02-2009, 06:40 PM how long can you wait to debadge your car? i dont want any light spots... ???
I have the same question. I got my car back in December, if I debadge it now will there be an outline in the paint or any visible trace of what used to be there? (I was thinking about just taking off the PONTIAC on the trunk.)
DRCUSTOMPARTS 05-02-2009, 06:58 PM I bought mine used in December with 20K miles and I didn't notice any fading after I debadged it in March.
MAYBEN 05-02-2009, 10:02 PM I still have to remove the chicklets.. I will most likely switch positions of G8 and GT, from right to left, and possibly top to bottom.. or I may just get rid of them...
Wicked Red G8 05-26-2009, 08:51 PM On the Pontiac emblem of the back of the G8 GT, are the letters separate? Also, do
they have to come off one at a time?
Thanks,
Bob
MAYBEN 05-26-2009, 09:12 PM Yes
Seattle09GT 05-31-2009, 10:23 PM Thanks! Worked like a charm. Sat on a small stool to make it easier. Most of the gunk came right off, I just used some bug/tar remover to clean the area and then waxed. I immediately got a lot more looks and a bunch of, "what is THAT," questions.
I plan to swap out the hubs on the rims (I'd really like to go with Vauxhall to be REALLY different) and I'm strongly considering having the Pontiac emblem removed up front and the area patched/painted to match.
Thanks again!

Would be interesting if there could be trades done. Trade the Pontiac badges for the Holden badges. Would make attachment/alignment a bit "interesting" but hard to beat free plus shipping.
I know I'd trade my Pontiac hardware for Holden hardware.

I just ordered the v8 6.0litre badges as well, and i was just curious to know if there is the addesive tape on the badges already for install???
DRCUSTOMPARTS 06-03-2009, 10:10 PM Yes you just peal off the paper backing and stick them on your car.
OUTASGHT 06-13-2009, 11:57 AM I'm in the process of removing all pontiac emblems for "HOLDEN" ones...I want to remove front arrow head but I'm hearing there are either holes or indents when you remove it!?!?!...HELP PLEASE!!!
it's really strange that people want the other countries don't want
I'm happy with my original chevy badges and the only thing that I took it out the dealer badge
DRCUSTOMPARTS 06-13-2009, 01:16 PM Yep there are holes behind the front arrowhead, you'll have to fill them and repaint.
G84ME 06-18-2009, 06:55 PM I don't know! I made them take it off mine before I drove if off the lot! I told them I would be happy to refer them business, but just not slapped on the back of my investment...They took it off, can't tell it was ever there...
WootyMcBooty 06-19-2009, 02:20 PM Does anyone know where I can find adhesive similar to what the OEM's use? I found a liquid that works a lot like superglue but I'd rather have it be more gel based so I could use this same process to take it off again.
DRCUSTOMPARTS 06-19-2009, 03:30 PM Just use 3M double sided body tape.
M23G8GT 06-25-2009, 11:37 PM Anybody?
a claybar ought to do it- make sure paint is wet (spray bottle) while you use it
PhoenixRising 06-30-2009, 04:10 PM Just took the "Pontiac" letters off the back...looks a lot better now imo. But, it took a while to get the residue off the back even with Goo Gone...worth the effort though.
Horn09 06-30-2009, 10:36 PM I've always used the 3M Adhesive Remover when debadging. Gets the let over residue off really well.
Going to finish mine here in next day or two.
Blue92 07-02-2009, 09:15 AM I took off the chiclets on the side and the g8 and gxp on the back. Here is a pic.
mikemaj82 07-02-2009, 09:17 AM I just did this yesterday. A little bit of heat, some fishing line, and let the residue soak in goo gone for a few minutes. It rubbed right off.

Blue92 07-07-2009, 05:07 PM Yeah, i didn't even think of that. Funny stuff.
sander 07-09-2009, 05:57 PM My car came with a sticker on the back from my dealer.
It appears that the sticker is not one piece, rather every letter is its own sticker. There are many letters....
What is the best way to remove something like this?
BrandonG777 07-09-2009, 06:04 PM Wash the car, then peel the letters off, use goo gone to get rid of the sticky, wash that area again and wax.
DRCUSTOMPARTS 07-09-2009, 06:17 PM I used a hair dryer to heat up the sticker and removed it with a credit card. I tried to peel it off without heat but it kept tearing in little pieces.
BrandonG777 07-09-2009, 06:20 PM Yeah should have mentioned that, heat does help.
Blue92 07-09-2009, 06:23 PM I just used my fingernail for the dealer stickers. No heat. I also used fish line for the badges and peeled off the excess tape. What was left, I just used a orange cleaner to remove it.

cmgww 07-09-2009, 09:58 PM Why the obsession with badge removal? Self loathing? I'm not ashamed to drive a pontiac, and personally really like the little "chicklet" GM logos (much better than older models had)
I am new to this forum, so please don't kill me on this one...
Or is it aesthetics...I stripped off all the graphics on my 2000 Kawasaki ZX-12R because I thought they were gaudy and cheesy (Ninja expecially)..but left the Kawasaki logo on the tank...It looks a ton smoother now....
If the G8 was a Chevy I would understand....I almost bought a new Malibu LTZ because I loved the styling so much (looks like an acura or similar, IMO)..but the big ass bowtie just ruined it for me. That's why I am praying the G8 doesn't come back as a Chevy....I want it to be a Regal! And throw a turbo on it!!
jxhopper 07-09-2009, 10:10 PM It's aesthetics. IMO all of the redundant chrome badging looks tacky.
That being said, I don't like the look of removing all of the badging. I left the GXP badges and the dart on the trunk.
I might remove the GXP on the trunk but as of now I've removed:
GM chicklets, Pontiac lettering on the tail, G8 GT on the tail.
Looks much cleaner without the clutter.

I can see where you're coming from there...With all the chrome trim it can be a bit much...
For me I am going for a blacked out look.

I took the chicklets off to make room for some V8 badges. Then I stuck one of the chicklets on the shifter plate on the center console.
markw78 07-10-2009, 02:32 PM Texas sun in July = no need for a hair dryer or heat gun :/
Got the Dealer badge off very easy, the rear pontiac emblem is gone - but left a ton of residue. Going to get some fishing line before I tackle any more, then wait til 2pm again tomorrow afternoon...

GXP DART PONTIAC G8
now it looks like this:
GXP DART.

5litrarag 07-16-2009, 11:06 AM Hit mine yesterday with a few seconds with a heat gun, pulled the chiclets on the side and all from the back. Left the one up front, for now....
Had 3 people doing double takes and then ask me "what kind of car is that?"
Thats how I know its perfect. :D
I removed the p o n t i a c letters off of the trunk. Left G8, GT, and the poncho badge. I really must remove the GM chiclets off front quarters. sigh...
5litrarag 07-16-2009, 12:59 PM simply wait until about midday and then go out there and twist them off. The sticky foam used to mount them softens up easily.
cactusrose 07-26-2009, 12:32 PM People are asking if debadging is "self loathing." Can't speak for everyone, but for me, Pontiac has made enough crummy cars in the past couple of decades for me to loath the brand, not myself. But I don't loath my new G8 GT, I'd rather associate it with the company that conceived and built it, rather than the badge engineers at Pontiac.
Horn09 07-26-2009, 03:00 PM I like my cars to be clean and simple. I have debadged almost every car I have owned.

+1. Exactly!!
As far as the dealer sticker is concerned, I do not want it there. I noticed it when I got the car home and promptly removed it. Unless they are going to pay my payment for me, they aren't getting any free advertising. I even swapped out the dealer license plate frame.
I plan to remove all badging with the exception of the front arrowhead (at this time) and the G8/GT emblems. The rest is going to go.

bluegoat06 04-26-2010, 08:21 AM I took out the GM chiclets, and Pontiac name, left the arrows cause i like them.

gearhead65 05-13-2011, 09:05 PM I had only G8 GT for awhile because I was in the same boat. Then I just did the rest. Mine is naked as a jay bird, less the front emblem. I like it so much better. Just so clean and no emblems to catch your towel when you're drying it and easier to wax. Plus, then people will wonder what the heck it is they're looking at.

I have followed the steps in removing the chicklet on the side. The driver's side came off no problem with no sign of it ever being there. However on the passenger side, after removing the badge and adhesive there is still an outline of the badge. The outline appears to be straight paint without a clear coat on it. I have tried clay bar, WD-40, bug and tar remover and polish, followed by wax and nothing helps. Honestly you can't really see it but we all know if there is something wrong on our cars don't we? Any ideas? This is really preventing me from removing the Pontiac letters from the trunk so I'm hoping to clear this up.

Try Goo Gone, this worked well for me on the back emblem's..have not tried to remove the side one's though.
Supercharged 08-21-2011, 10:17 PM You may have to get a polisher and wheel it out.
DJ_JonnyV 08-21-2011, 10:25 PM Yeah, like others have said, try some Goo Gone or 3M General Adhesive Remover. I've had very good luck with the 3M stuff in teh past. As for the polishing, you mayve to take a PC / Flex 3401 / rotary to it. If this is not an option due to cost, try ordering a hand polishing pad (foam) and some polish with some actual cut to it Maybe a medium cut polish, such as Menzerna 203 PowerFinish or Prima Swirl along with a medium cut foam pad. Just make sure to re-apply some sealant / wax afterwards as these polishes will strip any wax you have on.
ksell87 08-22-2011, 05:39 PM Thanks for the input. I definitely want the PC sometime in the future but I don't think it will be anytime soon for financial reasons. Any idea what caused this on one side and not the other? And what are the odds the PONTIAC letters will leave an outline?
Heymybigfish 10-25-2011, 04:55 PM well after reading 9 pages, of mostly good luck, i'm gonna try to do the chicklets and the pontiac letters...looks like everyone did this as their cars were newer, my 09 was built in may/08....so its quite literally been on the street for 3 years....but those ugly letters and badges need to leave!
ill let ya know the results in o...say....an hour ;p
edit, came off easy enough, but there is too much of a lip from 3yrs, so i dont want any ghosting, so i'm going to put the one badge i tried to cleanly remove (gm chicklet) back on...ah well...maybe next summer i'll buy a polishing wheel and try it again? ;p
JoeyBoy22999 01-24-2012, 08:40 PM Just so I am clear.. the rear Pontiac symbol has 0 holes behind it? Only the front does correct?
5litrarag 01-24-2012, 09:52 PM No holes in back...only the front
JoeyBoy22999 01-25-2012, 10:30 PM Ok so now my rear is complete and de badged....now WHAT DO I DO TO THE FRONT hahahah
StBlGT 01-26-2012, 02:45 PM front will have holes once you take off the badge. that's why i left my rear badge on and only took of "Pontiac G8" and "GT".
if you have holes, you might want to plug them up and get it repainted.

Maxspeed1997 03-05-2012, 06:53 PM I just did mine over the weekend and one thing I found was using a clay bar on the area helped remove the slight lines left behind. Polish after and done. Looks so much better.

Im guessing you mean if you are deleting the emblem in front....
It comes off just as easily as the rear does.
stephen4036 03-06-2012, 01:31 AM go to a body shop, give him 10 bucks.. he will magic eraser wheel it off and do a quick buff on that spot.

Hehe, yeah...it comes off easily its just the holes staring at you after that.
ShadowG8 03-07-2012, 11:23 PM I have just recently bought my 09 g8, has anyone had problems with taking the emblems off and having lines? also i am reading about holes in the front emblem? is it held on by bolts or the adhesive?
PBandJ 03-07-2012, 11:32 PM There are bolts holding the front arrowhead in place - so if you do remove it you'll have two holes visible -- no lines noticeable here, you may have some slight fade since the paint under the badges weren't exposed to the sun/elements all this time...
ShadowG8 03-07-2012, 11:39 PM Actually i was hoping to take it off, paint it black and put in back on and that makes it so much easier. any tips on gettin rid of the fade? thanks for the help
Supercharged 03-08-2012, 01:27 PM Clay then polish should clean up any lines.

Just what he said. The clay will help remove deposit lines and the polish will finish the job. You would never know my car had all the badges on it.
