Read this off the corvette forum and it appears that the ls3 for 09 is going to be bigger and stronger. Apparently the block is going to be beefed up since the ZR1 motor is going to use the same block.

I guess this is good for potential gxp owners who are planning to possibly slap a blower on their ride

That would be awesome if it's true cause I already had plans to have my GXP blown.

The July issue of Hot Rod magazine has a long article about the new LS9 engine, with this statement on Page 92:

"Cast in 319-T5 Aluminum, the LS9 cylinder case is 20 percent stronger in the main bearing webs than previous small blocks. Deck plates are installed for boring and honing. For 2009, all 6.2L V-8s will be upgraded to this block casting."

The article is pretty amazing, they go into great detail about the LS9 and mention where it shares components with the new LS3.

Overall it looks like the 2009 LS3 will be MUCH stronger in many areas (since it shares so much with the LSA and LS9).

I'm definitely gettin one!

Don't be so fast to blow your cash on a 4100lb under powered sedan, GTO was 400lbs lighter with the same hp, so expect the heavy GXP to get to 60 in 5.5 sec. not the typical GM overstated 4.7 sec garbage. This new G8 GXP would need a 3.90 rear to reach 60 in under 5.5 sec. Plus, a bigger, stronger motor ='s more weight. GM should've never sent these cars to the U.S. until they put them on a 300-500 lb weight loss diet.

Heard from a friend in the biz, living in Aussie land that the GXP's in testing are runing about 405 bhp and 0-60 in 5.4 to 5.5 sec and the quarter in 14.2 at 105mph. About right for such a big heavy (4100 lb) car and 405 hp. Although it handles better than the recently departed GTO's going around the skid pad at 0.88 g's , the GTO's did the same feat in 0.86 g's. Car still has way-to skinny wheels and tires.

FYI: The real name of the G8 is Grand Prix in most other parts of the world. Funny thing is I knew we'd get the grand prix back under a different name four years ago.

actually that was known about the LS3 all along. When LS3 was first announced, GM said that the reason LS2 was so short-lived is because it couldn't handle a supercharger, so LS3 was developed with that in mind from the beginning.

maybe this is why its taking so damn long for the gxp.
