I've had alot of subs and amps in all my cars. here is my question. what is the stock amp rms? Heres my mine question. has anybody tried just swapping out the stock 8's for a good set of 8's on the stock amp? if so how much better was the bass and the over all sound quality?

I have been wondering the same thing, I wonder if the bolt pattern for the speaker is the same, also I guess it would be good to know the impedance so we don't kill the amp.

im guessing and purely guessing here but by the sound quality and bass its 8 ohms. id be highly shocked if its 4 ohms.

Actually, the front door and rear door speakers are 2 ohm, and I will bet the rears are as well.

And since I just went and checked, they are indeed marked as 2 ohm.

It's actually 2ohm

I swapped the subs out for a pair of Boston G108-44's crossed at about 90Hz.
They are connected together as a single 4-ohm load on the sub channel of a DLS A7 amp.
The amp is hidden in the spare wheel well, so no trunk space is sacrificed.

Performance OK.
They are still being broken in.
They are also not meant to be used in free air (IB?) applications, but...

anyone could have stuck their head in the trunk to see what V8Mac just posted, and they do suck,by the way.get yourselves an amp with a set of tens and the system will rock.Oh yeah, replace the door speakers as well!!! I did and.....WOW!

Anybody know how to remove the rear subs without destroying anything?

I bet the stock amp isn't enough to push much of anything. There are quite a few sub companies that make free air subs, and typically they are lower power handling, though probably not stock amp low.

Ok, The factory subs are sandwiched between the Package tray and the steel below it, so V8MAC can you describe how you get to these without destroying everything, I was able to pull the passenger cover off, but both rear tabs broke, (will be a factory defect on first trip to dealer). Interestingly a wire wrapped in foam goes directly over the speaker, has to be the dumbest thing I have ever seen in a cars audio system. I thought it was a piece of sealing foam that was not in place but It has a wire in it. Future buzz for everyone.

Looks to me that the rear seat upper must come out first, then the package tray, then the speakers. Somebody needs to do a writeup with pictures on how to do this. I would like to replace the subs with SVC 2 ohms and run them off the factory amp and then later add an external amp. But the space did not look like many subs will fit in the space without cutting some of the steel underneath

Just now getting back to the forum from work, sorry no reply tempest.
But TomPierce did a super writeup which you've already seen.

If you need any clarification when you are working on your installation, just holla!
If your replacement 8" subs have large magnets and broad baskets, you'll have to shoehorn them in. LOL.

I have not had enough time to evaluate the new subs' performance, but they will not perform like a good 12" in a box. That's for sure. I've had lots of different subs in different cars and decided this time to sacrifice great sub-bass for stealth, space and weight. We'll see if it's worth it...

If your replacement 8" subs have large magnets and broad baskets, you'll have to shoehorn them in.

I needed another 1/8" clearance on the hole where the stock subs were (on the straight part of the "D" shaped hole.) to clear the magnet. Fortunately, I could bend the metal out of the way with a pair of pliers instead of having to cut it.

That, and drilling new mounting holes in the "adapter" were the only modifications. Everything else fit like factory.
