: Saw a Black G8 in Traffic Today !
isszy 08-20-2007, 07:48 PM I live in the outer east of Melbourne in Australia and saw a black G8 at a red light the intersection of Dorset Road and Mountain Hwy this morning. I turned around to try to catch it but could not get close to get a shot.
I have to say that in the flesh in traffic I am a bit disappointed. I think it looked a bit cartoonish and not as smooth as the Commodore. Judging by the rego plates, this was an early build, as the plates would suggest it ws registered about 4 months ago. It had the SS 18 inch whels that were on the red car doing the rounds in the states. I will keep my eyes peeled and try to get a shot.
Mike P 08-20-2007, 09:13 PM I agree with you, I like the Commodore design better. But I'm still going to buy a G8......
appletonrc 08-20-2007, 10:04 PM I like aspects of both.. we only get one though. Can't wait for a G8
appletonrc 08-20-2007, 10:17 PM Just saw this over at GMI. Someone snapped a G8 down under (post 128):

Mike P 08-20-2007, 11:07 PM If GM SPO has that spoiler available, I'm getting it. I need the M + S tires, but I'll get that spoiler....
jkgmh 08-21-2007, 07:30 AM This is a nice looking colour the Evoke. We can't get our SS / SSV's in that colour... :cursin::ohsnap1:

It looks like we will get the best of both worlds, a large and small spoiler. I will opt for the sport pkg, but I hope others can choose 19" wheels w/o the large spoiler.

We're not getting that color either. :(

:iagree: I like the big wheels, but I don't need the Aussie Supercar wing.
ToneyTone 08-22-2007, 07:40 PM Man oh Man, this will be some good news if the large spoiler is part of the sport package.

chiefpontiac 08-23-2007, 08:58 AM I am going to make sure th edealer checks the option delete for the LHD sticker.
need4spd 08-27-2007, 01:20 PM :iagree: I like the big wheels, but I don't need the Aussie Supercar wing. The 2008 full Pontiac brochures are out, the first two pages show a 08 G8 GT with the sport package with 19" wheels, and only a lip spoiler is shown on the black car.
IMO keep the wing for the younger boy racer crowd, I like the lip spoiler much better.
Aussie G8 08-27-2007, 01:29 PM Anyone want to scan the pages?
Cool_Hand_Luke 08-27-2007, 03:27 PM +1
Scan or take a pic and post that up.
I'll be driving over to the dealer tomorrow to see if they have a brochure.

Mike P 08-27-2007, 07:31 PM Yea man, someone scan the G8 brochure please!
need4spd 08-27-2007, 10:23 PM Yea man, someone scan the G8 brochure please! Working on it right now.
need4spd 08-27-2007, 10:37 PM These are the pictures from the 2008 Pontiac Line Catalog, pages 2 and 3 show this Panther Black Metalic G8 GT with the 19" wheels and the small spoiler. Note the GM badge infront of the drivers door at the bottom of the fender.
Also to note is that the center caps are silver, not black as in the Holden version of the wheels, and they appear to have a high gloss finish (maybe they are polished vs painted aluminum?)
I am liking it more and more, the photo really captures the look of the car I remember in person!:aus_flag:

Out of the 112 pages, this is all there was on the G8.
Enjoy, sorry it took so long to post it, I was on the road most of today.
Almost forgot, HP rating is 355+, slightly lower than the 363 or so indicated in previous documents. But things can change. Also, says 0-60 in low 5's, which is what Lutz said, "in under 5.5 sec"
Aussie G8 08-27-2007, 10:40 PM Sweeeeeeeeeeeeet! I love the look of the G8 in that color. It looks mean! :burnout:
Give me that car with the SS-V wing, the car looks really good in black.
NeqsG8GT 08-27-2007, 11:08 PM Glad to finally be getting some info. Holy horsepower drop, Batman! Looks like they're keeping the silver logo.

I guess I redeemed myself from being :ban: :burnout:
need4spd 08-27-2007, 11:21 PM Glad to finally be getting some info. Holy horsepower drop, Batman! Looks like they're keeping the silver logo. How can you tell it has the silver logo from the full line shots?
NeqsG8GT 08-27-2007, 11:32 PM The wheels have the silver logo. It may have been shot at that angle purposely. I like that line, "Ask your Pontiac dealer"... ha.
immortal 08-27-2007, 11:41 PM Thats pretty sweet! The front end is very aggressive.

Cool_Hand_Luke 08-28-2007, 06:01 AM I can live with those wheels.
So only two pages but no real info?
Mike P 08-28-2007, 07:55 AM Those are the 19" rims, the 18s are like the stock Commodore SS rims. Being in Michigan I'm going to need the thicker tyers (tires).
Panther Black Metallic, I hope it has the metallic specs in the paint, that would be too perfect!
Need 4 Speed: Thank you for scanning that info!
need4spd 08-28-2007, 09:17 AM I can live with those wheels.
So only two pages but no real info? That's all it had in the 100+ page book of 08 Pontiacs.
Thanks for the scan. I can live with the rims, but I will need another set for the snow tires. Does anyone have an ideas on the off-set and lug pattern of the rims.
Aussie G8 08-28-2007, 11:56 AM Thanks for scanning the pages.
Cool_Hand_Luke 08-28-2007, 12:27 PM Oh yeah....
I know I've done a lot of whining lately about this and that. I forgot something important.
Thanks for the scans.
HUMBLER 08-28-2007, 01:57 PM Man, looking good...thanks!

That jives with my source citing the GMNA 0-60 tests (full tank of gas and test equipment) was 5.5 seconds for the GT.

So, I'm thinking with track prep (tire inflation / deflation) & having an 1/8 tank of race gas 104 or 110 octane, and a good launch, one could probably pull off a 5.1 - 5.3 second 0-60 mph time.
Couple that with just a CAI & a tune we could be looking at a 5.0 sec 0-60 time (just maybe even a 4.9sec 0-60mph time?)

I'm not sure I'd want to run 110 octane on a fuel injected car. Maybe some people have tried it with no ill effects. It just seems like premium fuel...on steroids. As for the CAI & tune, sub 5-sec. times should be in the near future. Plus, since GM has had the L76 intake & L92 heads (same combo as the GT), tuners have been working with new cams for quick & easy power.
tmoneyr007 08-29-2007, 06:26 PM Wheels look excellent but that chrome trim around the door handles is WEAK!
johnh 08-30-2007, 04:35 PM I cannot stand that lip spoiler. Either put a good spoiler (like the one in the Aussie pic) or just leave it off completely.
355 HP. Still no too bad....we all know the speed junkies will be modding on Day 1 or close to it.
Gotta get the 0-60 time down....don't wanna get spanked by any GTPs or TAs.
