Anyone in the 295+ widths?

To do that you would have to get a 10" rear rim with a +50 (or so) offset. I have yet to find or see a rim with those specs. You would likely have to do custom.

The guys down at CCW are experimenting right now, they're the ones who got my offsets on the GTO perfect so I can run my 335s. I'll see if I get a chance to call John and find out what size they are up to.

^^^ I had no idea 335's could fit on a goat.

oddly enough, I was actually contemplating some CCW classics or 550's in 18" wheel size assuming that they should work with the forthcoming GXP version.

I assume it'll be a bit on the funky side when it comes to wheel specs, but I think that wide of a tire would look very good on a G8.

We have exactly that part number in stock.

Well, my GTO is far from stock. I run flares front and rear that allow me to run the wider tires. 275 is about the largest you can go on a stocker. I've got 12 months left on the Silverado lease and then I get to start playing with the G8.

Would 275s in the back rub or bottom out with two people in the rear seat any stuff in the trunk?

We've done the following with no issues (assuming offset is correct);
285/40-18
285/35-19
295/35-19
285/30-20

the 275/35R19 will not fit the OE wheels, neither will a 255/40R19

What is the widest size that will fit on the front without rubbing lock to lock?

TireDoc
07-08-2008, 03:37 PM
On the OE wheel, just the 245/40R18. On an 8.5" wide (or wider) wheel 255/40R19 is biggest based on our conservative measurements.

tntempest

Why do you say the 255/40/19 does not fit the OE 19's, is it rubbing or are you saying it wont fit the wheel?

Mr. Sandog
07-08-2008, 04:43 PM
A 255 fits the car (no rubbing) but is too wide for the stock wheel.

At least that is how I am reading it.

TireDoc
07-09-2008, 09:20 AM
Yep, 255 needs an 8.5" wide (or wider) wheel, OE is 19x8.

Uh, Ive run 265's on a 8" wheel, The 245's don't even poke out enough to protect the wheel, a 255 or 265 should fit no problem.
Some tire companies 255's are equal to some companies 245's. Nitto's run terribly small in width. I would think a 265 would fit, maybe hard for the tire guy but well worth it. Most tire companies give a suggested wheel size and some list 8" for 255.

Edit,

Just looked up several tire mfg's and they list a 255/35 or 255/40 to be acceptable on a a 7.5" rim

Didn't look at all 16 of my suppliers, but Bridgestone, Continental, Dunlop, Goodyear, Hankook, Michelin, Pirelli, Sumitomo and Yokohama require a 8.5" width minimum for 255/35R19 or 255/40R19. The tire would mount up to an 8" wide wheel without too much problem, but the tire manufacturers couldn't say how long they'd stay on.

Here is a Pirelli P-zero 255/45/19 recommended on a 8"

http://www.wheelenhancement.com/tirespecs.php?tireid=21

Tire rack shows 275/35s rear optional.

I cant find the other site that showed 7.5" for all the mfg.s

TireDoc

Sure, a 255/45R19 will fit an 8". You are correct. Its just taller than we can guarantee to fit.

We've done the following with no issues (assuming offset is correct);
285/40-18
285/35-19
295/35-19
285/30-20

the 275/35R19 will not fit the OE wheels, neither will a 255/40R19

What was the offset on the 295's? I'm assuming they were on a 10" wheel, right?

TriShield

I'm looking at getting wheel sizes 20x8 for the front and 20X9.5 for the back. 245/35/R20 up front and 275/30/R20 out back.

I'm guessing I should have no rubbing issues with the wheel turned lock to lock and no rubbing in the back even with rear passengers and luggage in the trunk.

Would it be possible to run 275/35/R20 on 9.5 wheel with no rubbing or bottoming out?

TireDoc

Tallest we guarantee is 275/30-20R, the 35 series may indeed rub.

TireDoc

295 needs at least a 10" wide, correct. Sadly, we don't have any wheels that wide we can guarantee to fit, so I'm not sure what the ET shoudl be (19x9.5" are ET40+) The 295 may need a fender lip roll or some additional negative camber to work without rubbing.

TireDoc,
I have a GXP, what is the widest tire I can fit on the back end and what rim width and offset would I need? Not sure if the GT is similar in this regard or not. Thanks.

The GXP requires more space between the wheel and the caliper.

In the front, yes. But he's talking about the rears. I thought the rear calipers were the same on V6/GT/GXP?

For what its worth I have 285-35-19 and needed to roll my fenders. These were mounted on 19x9.5 with a 45 offset.

Are these on the CTS-V wheels or custom wheels? Also, when you reference 45 offset, is that a 45mm spacing off the hub?

I run 275's front and rear :) You can fit 305's in the rear and with some tweaks, and depending on the brand, I think you can run a 285 up front but I haven't done it yet.

We typically run a 10.5" rear with a 285/35-19 tire. Depending on the suspension setup you might have some rub on one side that is easily fixed.

Too wide a tire for a narrow-ish wheel. Stock GXP wheels are 19x8". You need a 9" wide rim to run a 275mm wide tire safely.

I'm running the Bridgestone Pole Positions in 275/40/18 on the stock rears with no problems. I've posted a hand-full of pics in the big "Will it Fit?" thread. They've been on for ab out 6,000 miles with no odd wear issues and perform much better in all conditions than the skinny PoS stock tires.

Just my .02, but I could be wrong and jacking my stuff to hell, but it sure does look nice!

You are running the GT stock 18's. What is the width on those? I think it's weak that they didn't put larger wheels on our G8's. Hmmm 6+ liter motor, let's put little gay ass wheels on that's good enough....:(

All G8 stock wheels are 8" wide with a +48mm offset.

I did not see anybody mention the problem of going with a wider tire on an 8 " wide rim.Long story short is that you can get "roll" where the rim moves side to side under a lateral load. Not a big deal because the sidewalls are sooooo short on these cars, but if the sidewall were taller the more noticeable it would be.Just be carefull in the turns...but it should be great on the straight strip.

Try using this calculator: http://www.rimsntires.com/specspro.jsp

Will help in determining what should work. Be aware though that you'll start to hit the fact that that wide of a tire is generally not recommended for an 8" wide rim.
