: Sirius Sportster 4 add on via antenna
RBA G8 Phoenix 07-05-2008, 11:11 PM I have been looking on here for a couple of hours and can not find out:
What type of antenna hook up the G8 has. The guys at best buy say it is a Chrysler, just like all of the other GM products.
A good wire (12 volt switched) for power.
A good place for the ground.
I did find out the antenna is on the drivers side of the radio, and how to get to it.
Can someone help? Maybe I just have my helmet on to tight and cant see it!!! HA! :drink:
PMD G8 07-05-2008, 11:58 PM It's probably a VW antenna connection, thats what the GTOs have. Are you installing a sirius direct fm adapter? If so then I think these are the adapters that you need.

RBA G8 Phoenix 07-06-2008, 12:06 AM sorry about that. Yep, a FM direct adapter.
Canadian GP 07-06-2008, 12:26 PM I have the same unit, could you post instalation pics once you're done?
TIA
wreckwriter 07-06-2008, 12:45 PM I used the aux connection for my Sirius. I've heard nothing good about the FM modulator connections. As for connection locations, mine taps power out of the wire to the power port under the radio. There are plenty of good ground spots in that area too but I'm not certain where my ground is hooked up.
Be careful, some of the Sirius radios need 12v, others need 5v. The Sportster 5 uses 5v, not sure about your 4. The Sirius kit, I think its called "pro install kit" or similar, comes with a converter for the 5v. If you hook it direct to 12v it will likely fry the radio.
RBA G8 Phoenix 07-06-2008, 07:17 PM I just got it all done. I will post pics tomo afternoon.
What I used and how.
I used the spare Green (+) and Black (-) that are on the passenger side of the radio. There is a spare plug right there for the taking.
As for the 12 volt 5 volt deal..... I thought about finding a transformer for that ( the pro install pack comes with). But what I did is a bit easier (I think). Just went to the parts store and got a female cig lighter. Used the transformer in the original Sirius power cord. It was much easier to wire tie the cig lighter and wire it that way. There is LOTS of room on the sides of the radio and under it.
I used black 1/8" ABS for the mount. I put it right in the hole beside the existing cig lighter under the radio. It is a tight fit but, I think it is much better than a suction cup or visor mount.
I can still use the seat heater and anti wheel spinner button.
NOW THE GOOD PART!!!!!!
The FM mod...... MOTHER FLOWER!!!!! That little antenna is hard to get off the darn radio. Little tiny plug! All I did was try and lift on the little retainer and POW! Broken! Come to find out after several bad bad words, all I had to do was squeeze not spread....... OH well. I will post the part numbers for the antenna conversions. The info about the GTO is correct. They are the 2002 and newer VW and Audi antennas. Hard to believe that the car is Aussie, assembled in Mex and has a European antenna!!!!!
I put the Sirius antenna on the trunk lid. Ran the wires under the fake carpet on the lid and through the VERY small rubber hose, that connects the electrical to the car. That took some time and cable pulling lube, didnt want to cut the antenna cable. Ran the rest of the way under the sills and under the passenger side dash.
Putting the dash back together is another story. All I had removed was the piece under the dash on the drivers side ( the one with the light switch in it), the out side pieces of the radio cover and the center console cover. Those side pieces are a bear!
It took quite a little bit of time to make the mounting location but, since it is where the ash tray goes, its removable with 2 screws and 2 clips on the back..... So, I worked on it in the cool!
I am a newbie here and I really appreciate the help!!! Knowing a little bit about what you are getting your self into makes a BIG difference.:)
I will try to get those pics posted in the AM tomo.
Now its beer time!!!!!:drink:
locrzng888 07-07-2008, 03:58 PM You deserve a beer, nice job. I would go to sirius, but, I already have xm in both my other rides. G8xm is supposed to have a plug and play available.
RBA G8 Phoenix 07-08-2008, 09:35 AM The wire and plug in the cig lighter are for the Ipod. All wires for Sirius run behind dash.
Thanks!!!!

Now I know it's been a while since I studied geography, but, last time I checked, Elizabeth Australia is not in Mexico!
Maybe ye :drink:eth too much! :wink2:
In all fairness, only the engine is assembled in Mexico.

Can you give some more info on this? I've basically just got mine laying down in that little cubby hole. I have to pull it out if I want to change stations and sometimes it slides out and goes flying if I take a curve too fast. If I could find a way to get it to stand up and stay in place I would be happy with this installation. Any more info or pictures you can give of what this mount looks like or how you made it, I would appreciate it.
Thanks in advance!!!

Basically I just took out the little rubber mat inside to cubby. Took some ABS (you can prob get a small sheet from a best buy or local audio shop). It is just the black plastic used by installers. Cut it to fit on an angle. I think it was 4 1/4 in. wide by 3 1/2 in. tall. Screwed it into the cubby hole with one screw in the middle and then drilled a small hole through both for the wires. The mount is just the stock mount that came with the unit. The hard part was getting it positioned just right so it would not hit the AC control knob and the heat switches.
Hope this helps.... I will try to get a better pic of the mount.
