I've been watching development of this unit for quite sometime now. I actually just sent a question to the company to find out if the unit will control the climate control in the G8 and allow us to see what it's doing. If it will this will absolutely be my first mod. BTW Planning on getting a MY09 G8 GXP with all options. :wiggle:

There is a pretty long thread, discussing that thing already. Was a few weeks back now.

I hadn't seen that so I appreciate the repost. I hope it also includes some better equalizer settings as well. I miss having control over my bass, mids, and highs like I had in my old car. Whenver I turn up the bass in this car it seems to turn up everything in the lower half of the spectrum, not just the really low bass and it makes it sound horrible.

Usually electronics can be found at much lower prices then SRP. Looks cool and I might be a player if and when I can find it around $2000.

2800?

2000?

Do you have any idea how much horsepower you can buy for that????

I'm with you George. 2500+ for a GPS/computer thingy. Puhleease. I'd much rather buy a Tom Tom for 200 bucks and spend the rest on Headers and such.

YES!! After having a carputer in my last car, I can't wait for this to come out. There are a lot of things I got used to with my carputer that I seriously miss not having.

$2,700 is a bit steep considering you can build a carputer with the same componets for aroud $1,000, but having the a/c controls/readouts functional will be worth it imo.

Has anybody heard anything about the actual status of that? I am also very interested in this system, but last time I checked there was no word about making it compatible with the G8's HVAC controls. However, the fact that they were using a G8 as an exhibition car for the system IIRC is a very good indication that they're working on it... or at least I hope so.

I emailed azentek with some questions. One of them being the ability to interface the oem HVAC display on the screen, here is their reply:

"The news of our solution leaked out a little earlier than we had hoped and we had to decide as a company how to respond to the flood of inquiries… The following is the official response.

Although Azentek has successfully developed a working solution for the Pontiac G8, it is not yet scheduled for public release. To stay up-to-date on our progress, feel free to sign up for the news list on our website."

Great looking unit! But too pricey for even me. I beleive I have an Azentec 7.1 sound card in my gaming computer. Good product that.

That's kind of a deal breaker. Do the hvac controls work at all without the stock head unit? Can you just not see them? Do you sacrifice anything related to the stock stereo?

they work you just cannot see whether your heater or ac is on... or if your ac compressor is on or off etc etc etc...

I wonder if by "working solution", they mean integrated with the HVAC? I mean, it would be kind of a clunky excuse for a "solution" otherwise, as I'm sure they are aware. Guess I'll keep my fingers crossed...

That's kind of a deal breaker.

Agreed. I am really hoping they get it working right, as I would be a sure buyer if they do. Perhaps I should tell them that...

I am assuming for $2K plus you will get full factory functionality...lol it better or they wont be sellin any!

Very cool find though... Factory Nav, and Blue tooth along with the now added Satellite is all GM needs to make this car a home run..

GM could shortcut things and partner with Azentec. It would be a smart thing to do; I would have bought it. I would buy it now if the climate control integration worked! I will not buy it without that integration. There isn't any sense in having climate control unless you can tell what the heck you set it at.

I actually talked to Pete Muller on the phone after buying my 09 G8 GT. He said everything would be worked out by the late fall or maybe by Christmas for the Atlas to be on sale and ready for the G8.

I'd be happy with this replacement mirror:

http://www.azentekonline.com/cms/content/view/79/180/

depending on the price. I don't want to do major surgery on my HVAC controls, but this would be nice as it gets the nav up where it belongs.

Of course, I don't see a price or how you can even buy one yet...

I emailed them last week and this was their dissappointing response-

Sorry for the confusion. The Atlas is not currently a solution for the G8.
Though we have used the Atlas in the G8 it required a great deal of
customization to do so and it is very costly. Azentek is working with GM /
Holden to deliver a solution for the G8; but it is not a high priority project
and will most likely not be available for quite a while…

I have been looking forward to this radio it's shame it is a nogo for the G8. I cannot even see the display on my radio except at night time.

Yes, it does not go above 0 to +5 only 0 to -5 in the daytime. You can only dim the display. I have argued with this dealer for over two month. He says it is normal to not be able to see it in the daytime, G8s are all like that. Nothing can be done.

I love everything about this car but hate the radio.
Ed

Oh BTW up until about three month ago the radio worked just fine. The same old thing when they see the display when it is dim and they can see it but never when the display is black so "if it aint broke we can't fix it." with a smile.

Go to a different dealer. I can adjust mine during the day just fine.
They maybe thinking of the controls that dim the dash as well as the radio. The radio can be adjusted sepratly but they may not know that. I would write GM a letter as well with your compalint. You are not crazy i can atest too that. :judge:

You could also try reseting the radio settings by disconnecting the battery.
Just an idea.

I have the Pontiac rep coming out to see the car and he is bringing a G8 that he has been doing testing on with lighting conditions to show me that there is nothing wrong with the radio (rep has never even seen my car).

After seeing the rep I will have to go to a different dealership to get work done. This dealer is 1/2 mile away the next dealer is 30 miles away. I have had more problems with this dealership than I want.

I guess I don't have to worry about getting my radio fixed since Rick Wagner has been removed by Obama.:bs: Now Pontiac is closing their doors and then GM going bankrup.

Just the great news I heard on the radio tis morrning.

Feroce,
Make sure you have your lights to the OFF position and not in the AUTO or ON position. Once in the OFF position, try adjusting the radio's DIM.

You should be able to go + or -

I don't think that is a bad price for what you get. I paid $650 for the Garmin Zumo 550 and got a deal. I use it on my motorcycle and the car.

I would get it for sure if I didn't already have a GPS. I just have a cheap $200 GPS, maybe I could give it to my parents or something. Although that thing would be a lot cooler if the touchscreen GPS part turned into mirror while not in use. Like the backup cam part does.

I think I like my Garmin better than I would the rearview mirror. I have my Garmin mounted to the left side of my dash, low kind of in the corner. That way my eyes never leave the road because it is at eye level all the time and being low it does not block your vision. I use it for my speedo because it is easer to see. Not that a rearview mirror is bad.

Time would probably be better spent emailing Metra asking for a dash kit to be made. If there's gonna be a good dashkit made, they could do it.
