Took the G8 to the track with a couple of friends that have Gtp's. All I have done so far to the car is the magna flow cat back. It was 87* with a 100% humitity and had been raining all day. Ran the car two times with no burnouts. Just wanted to see what the car would run before I got the tune and CAI. You can see the video here at this web site just scroll down untill you see 7-2-08 track pics and video. My run is 1:00 into the video.

Here is the other run: (Bad camera man)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z_ukcK_dVds (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z_ukcK_dVds)

1st run:
14.21 at 101mph with a 2.16 60'

2nd run:
14.28 at 100mph with a 2.19 60'

Here is another video on the way home. I had a 6' 4" 280lbs camera man in my car againts a mid 13 sec GTP. We started at 40mph and when he caught me I hit the rev limiter going into 4th gear.

I looked! I just don't know why Pontiac would go away from an SC V6 to a V8 when they could have dumped some coin into making the V6 a better engine and perhaps offering us more HP and more MPG. I may be all wet here of course...:)

Don't get me wrong. I like me some V8's and of course will be driving one shortly but those V6 GP's were damn fast!

I got love for ya Bro. All we need to do is apply boost to that thing and your there.....Unless I do more. LOL :driving:

Dumped what coin? They have a 300hp V6 already. They're just not using it in anything other then the CTS, which is dumb.

Eh, they should turbocharge it :) If the DI ecotec with boost makes 280hp, the DI V6 when boosted should make a lot more then 400hp :) Would be fun for modding too.

I'm happy as hell that it has a V8. I'm going to start saving my pennys for a supercharger.

im lookin at the picture u posted in it looks like u drove through the water. My 1st question would be, did you have to drive through? Some tracks have no room to go around it. 2nd question, why did you drive through it if it was avoidable? That is a horrible mistake. If you had to drive through it, thats 1 thing. But if you can avoid the water on stock radial tires, do it. If not, the water gets in the tread. No matter how much of a burnout you do, when you get to the line, the water will trickle down from the treads and be right at your tires and when you go to give it gas, its going to cause some slippage. So, the 100% humidity did not help either lol

nice ride man!

The first run I did not have to drive through the water box and I got the same 60' time as when I did drive through the water box on the second run. There is room at the track to drive around it but some of the starters will not let you. They say when people do burnouts it shoots the rocks to the sides of the water box. So when you drive around the water box you are picking up the rocks and bringing them onto the track.:judge:. I just need some practice leavingthe line in this car. I am still used to my FWD monster where I had to roll into the throttle off the line.

No worries, he humidity in Texas is not great for 'headline' times, especially in the heat of summer. It is best to evaluate yourself against other cars in your class that same day, since you are all suffering the same conditions. Enjoy.

Well, you got your baseline now. Only way to go is up. I heard it was 48 in Wisconsin over the weekend. I think I'll head there to race. :D

48 degrees. Oh how I wish. I think we will see a lot of fast times when it cools off.

Because mod for mod dollar for dollar a V8 will punish a V6 in any trim.

An LS2 needs only a set of longtubes and a cam to go 500HP at the flywheel or 415RWHP. Not going to see that in a V6 for ~$2000 not including tune. The 6.0 in the G8 isnt much different.

Big cars like these muscle sedans were made to shake and rumble. Theres a whole lot more to their mystique then just bad gas mileage. A blown V6 in this mean looking/size of a car is like a big bad 8 3/4'' .500 Magnum revolver being chamber for .22, even if both will still kill you.

Many of this boards vehicles suffer from very conservative stock tunes, tons of heat soak tackling inexperience and LOADS of Torque Management. (Dont worry, DS will be to the rescue with "First to Market" tuners since they dont give a **** about the 3 1/2 year promise of TCM tuning for the 05/06 Goats, but I digress).

Many of the cars on this board will evolve.....quickly. Lets not forget how many Goat members here talked about running 14s when they first got the Goat, take me for instance, first runs 14.1, literally $250.00 dollars later and some brain usage, 13.10 @ 107. Suck it V6. Suck it hard. :judge:

EDIT: By the way, least we not forget the single biggest reason these heavy ass cars leave the line fast at all. No NOT horsepower, TORQUE!!!! LEt me repeat TORQUE!. In comparison, V6s make crap torque. Example: An Ls2 with longtubes and a cam is at around 500 horsepower @ 5800+~ish RPM tuned. A barely tuned ZZ502 8.2LBig Block makes 500 horsepower too, but the damn thing makes 500 ft/lbs of torque at only 2,000RPM and peaks at 567 @ 4,400. Sorry small block, you lose. Just like the V6 would compared to a strong 6.0 V8. They can go rounds all day on horsepower, but every old school hor rodder knows that TORQUE RULES THE STREET and only the super heavy modified, durability-prone V6 examples can squeeze big torque like the 8s do without much effort.

Actually the supercharged 3.8L V6s made really good torque numbers, it was horsepower that they had to work on.
