I just received my pontiac performance magizine, they talked about the xm plug and play for the 08 g8. I know its been discussed on the site before, but, I didn't hear if anyone actually tried one. If so, what do you think, I'm tired of local stations with lots of static. I need to get some more music in this g8. Your opinions please.

FYI some kind of discount via www.g8xm.com looks like it's for a plug'n'play unit. Bah who needs that crap though with MP3 CDs. I figure this has been posted before but what the heck I just got my magazine too.

It's supposed to be just a discount on satellite radio units. Honestly though, it's not a discount at all since you can get the XpressEZ from Amazon.com for $20. Why in the world anyone would want to pay $99 for it I don't know. Also, there is nothing plug'n'play about them since you still have to run the wire for the satellite antenna unless you just mount the antenna on your dash.

Yeah...their advertising is a crock. It's just an addon, same as any other XM unit. You can put the antenna on the center speaker grill on the dash. That's where I put mine so I wouldn't have to have another lump on the roof or trunk. Plus it saves a TON of time running the wire through the car. I just ran it under the windshield dash trim and dropped it through a space on the passenger side of the dash to the XM Roadie in the cubby under the radio.

Still think (wish) there were some way to use the OnStar antenna/wiring for XM and Sirius.

You can drop the headliner and run the sat. antenna wire along the trim and down the a pillar. There is a hole for the factory antenna that is big enough for you to squeeze the end of the XM wire through. Antenna looks stock. I can take pics of mine later.

Headliner is a PITA to lower though. You have to remove all of the A, B, and C pillar interior panels and weather seals around the doors I never did get it all the way out. Just enough to loosen the stock antenna and run the wire.

How hard is to get the A pillar trim off? I was worried about the screwing up the airbag. I have a radar detector mounted on the windshield under the mirror and ran the wire up to the headliner, was able to pull down enough to get the wire shoved in and over to the driver side A pillar. I pushed the wire as best I could between the A pillar and windshield, down to the dash and then around that and to the fuse box. I also need to get the piece of dash trim off on the drivers side where the little tweeter speaker is but have been afraid to tackle it. Anyone tried anything like that?

Man that things big an ugly. Makes my Roady install look like a stealth install! I'll have to try to get pics this weekend.

You don't need to mount the antenna externally, you can mount it on a corner of the dash. As long as you have 270 degrees of unobstructed view you will be okay.

Like I said before...the center speaker grill works great for sticking the magnetic base to.

Just ordered the expressez from xm, 9.99 with and they give you the sure connect antenna for free. You have to be a currect subscriber which I already have 2 units in other cars. If I don't like it for 9.99 and can pitch it or use it in my house for a while. So, not such a good deal for g8xm.

Sorry for the delay, was out of town. Yes that is the Express RC. I wish it was a little smaller, but I'm kinda stuck with XM right now, and they have no smaller displays being made. But it does look really good with everything lit up at night.

The mount that they included with the kit does not hold it upright very well, so I plan on remounting it a little lower than it is right now.

Sound is as good as it gets for compressed audio sent from a satellite, meaning:average. I used the aux input on the front of the radio so its still better than FM modulation. CD's sound much better, but thats okay since I knew what to expect.

Removing the pillar trim was a little tricky. The A and C pillars were easy- pop the airbag logo, remove the screw in the C pillar and they both unclip. The B pillars require you to remove the lower covers first, then the uppers. The headliner itself is clipped in near the third brake light and overhead lights. Just don't try to bend the liner itself as it is easily crushed.
