: Badging/Debadging V6 w/ V8 badges ?
scruff24 01-11-2011, 02:55 PM Before you all rip on my for NOT getting a V8 if that' s really what I wanted... Just wondered if anyone has thought of putting the GT on the rear of the car, opposite of the G8 (after removing PONTIAC). I should have got a V8...not ashamed of my V6 though. It has the same look as the GT and the GXP. (I prefer the rims on my V6 over the others). And plan to do grill inserts, engine tune, etc. Guess what it boils down to is actually not understanding how sweet the G8 was when I bought it, how it could be modified...and seeing as mine was in the showroom at the dealership when I was looking at a Camaro...and struck me as "WTF car is that?" Cuz it was so polished and sweet looking.
Just wanted to get perspective....I have had mine since June....got it w/ 15k miles on it. Premium package....Leather, 6 disc changer, sunroof, etc. (Liquid Red) It's actually parked for the winter in the garage (as I watch it snow outside)...I mean, even though it may not be a V8...I wanna keep it nice.
4DRGTO 01-11-2011, 03:12 PM Hey, it's your car, you do what you want. If it'll make you feel better to put GT badges on your car then by all means go for it.
amnigo 01-11-2011, 04:01 PM Might as well put a GT-R emblem on.
SleeperG8 01-11-2011, 04:16 PM Or GXP emblems.
Panzer Leader 01-11-2011, 04:29 PM OR ABCDEFGHIJKLMNOPQRSTUVWXY and Z.
If you want to do anything at all contact CP and get the SV6 insignia.
L76 FAN 01-11-2011, 05:15 PM Whatever floats your boat. 99% of the population can't distinguish G8's from GT's or GXP's anyways. So go for it!
knglibrty 01-11-2011, 06:45 PM only thing is when you wanna play and get your ass handed to you you'll think about taking them off. I to wanted a v8 but price led me to a v6 , and boy I'M PROUD of mine. After all they'll be suprised to find out it's a v6, so leave them guessing.
Panzer Leader 01-11-2011, 06:53 PM ^+1 Guess I won't put the "Porche Emblems" on the car.
mr weather 01-11-2011, 07:14 PM Better than a "Powered by Honda" sticker I guess.
zepcom 01-11-2011, 07:27 PM Funny,
When I first got my GT, I debadged the GT part and switched to the v6 rims. :secret: I currently have the v6 tail lights since I think they look 10x better than the "alztekka chrome bling gt tails" ...
Do what makes you happy, man. I do like the holden SV6 badging though, they really pop!

Honestly to me ... I like the V6 & SV6 look a bit better than the stock GT setup. Play around with different badging, maybe even convert your "darts" to holden lion emblems... it surely would get noticed!!

Nobama 01-11-2011, 07:44 PM Finally a thread about badging with some good advice and no complaining. Yes, like they said its your car put what you want on it.
On to the other topic, I've bought a number of cars and after a few months I realized I didn't buy exactly what I wanted. My SRT-4 ACR neon thought I got it perfect but then after the fact I didn't like the black or the sunroof. My VW Corrado G60, wish I would have bought the VR6. This GT V8, wish I would have got the GXP. If I had got the GXP I'm sure I would be saying.. man I should have bought the caddy, and on on it goes.

The nice thing about your way is a wolf in sheep's clothing, i got blue vinyal to put over the red in the "darts".
Bad Karma 01-11-2011, 07:55 PM I think putting GT badges on a V6 is pretty poseurish. It's in bad taste and is an embarrassment to all G8s when someone in a Challenger or Stang comes by and dusts your ass. They will be all over their forums talking about how they walked all over a G8GT.
As a fellow V6 owner with a VERY extensive mod list, *embrace* the uniqueness of our car. There are far fewer V6s than there are V8s, and they are great cars in their own right. No need to steal cred from our big brothers, the V6 can walk about 90% of the cars out there, at least from a rolling start. 0-60 in 6.9 is hardly slow, the transmission is geared very well to make excellent use of our ~260HP, 60-100MPH happens nearly instantly, our suspension will let us run circles around FWD, 60/40 distribution Jap Crap, and the cars look great. Nothing to be ashamed of.
Do what I did: Put a Cadillac CTS 3.6L badge on the back. Unique, tasteful, and helps balance the rear end.

mjposner 01-11-2011, 08:00 PM I would just debadge all the way, keep'm guessing.
I always laughed when I saw M badges on obvious non-m cars like 318s or 7 series cars.
Still, your car, your call
Schwartz 01-11-2011, 08:16 PM Don't make it something it's not. It's an insult to the GT.Mine's a V6 completely debadged with quad tips and everybody assumes it's a V8.
PONY MAN 01-11-2011, 08:32 PM Don't make it something it's not.It's an insult to the GT.Mine's a V6 completely de-badged with quad tips and everybody assumes it's a V8.
I'd have to agree with this young man here... Well said WATSON.
I would just simply de-baged the whole vehicle and call it a day. I don't understand your reasoning behind wanting the GT emblems. I hated all of the cheap lettering on the car and trashed mines over a year ago, including the GM chicklets and arrowheads (SOLD). Now if I could only make it over to the paint and body shop to have my bumper filled.
At the end of the day, it's your car do what you please with it. You asked a question and I simply answered with a resounding no.
BTW, the tune available for the V6 isn't worth the coin. You're better off spending dinero in other modification categories.
Bad Karma 01-11-2011, 08:44 PM The way I drive my G8, most people don't even get to look at my ass-end long enough to read the "3.6."
Panzer Leader 01-11-2011, 09:07 PM ^+1 Bingo!
gm4life 01-11-2011, 09:12 PM Well.....
1: Its your car you do what you want.
2: Why put badges on a car what it isn't?
3: On the flip side people put Aussie badges and body kits on their car when its not. Not to mention GXP body parts on a V6 and GT cars. Do you see what I'm getting at?
4: I wouldn't do it.
Schwartz 01-11-2011, 09:41 PM How about putting the 3.6 on a GT or GXP to really mess with people's heads.
zepcom 01-12-2011, 07:39 AM The nice thing about your way is a wolf in sheep's clothing, i got blue vinyal to put over the red in the "darts".

Steering wheel dart also, but I don't seem to have any pictures of that!
purple_power 01-12-2011, 08:05 AM What I find funny is how many people here put Chevy badges on their cars. We always want what we don't have. :)
I actually do like the SSV's (which look like your G8's) with the Pontiac badges on them. It just suits the grille better.
Something I never knew.... the SV6 which I have, is identical to the SS, except the SS is a V8.
scruff24 01-12-2011, 08:11 AM I appreciate everyone's comments and I think after discussion (which I didn't think I'd get that many responses to being that the V6 isn't as popular/common) I will probably 'Keep em Guessing'. Possibly remove the PONTIAC and the GM chicklets. It would be embarrassing to get dusted. Probably stick w/ a window tint and possibly rotofab. We are all fans of the G8 for one reason or another just a damn shame that they didn't keep Pontiac going (when it seemed that they were finally back on the right track w/ this Model and a few others) I know that Chevy is coming out w/ the Chevelle...but I like to have something that isn't going to be everywhere...much like the G8. (BTW...have vanity plates already...) Thanks for the input folks !
Rich G 01-12-2011, 09:41 AM I am thinking about doing the Holden badge thing with the SV6... I got the quad tail pipe look as opposed to the dual I am going for the clear tails as opposed to the red I am eventually going to the GXP diffuser front & back I am going for aftermarket rims soon headers etc etc etc... Do what you wanna do its your car and whatever makes you happy as far as cosmetic changes like badging if you don`t like you can change...

zepcom 01-16-2011, 08:58 AM How did you guys do this?
Mine was a reflective overlay sticker on the center hubcaps (iirc it was from reflective concepts dot com), and the front and back "concept" darts are from third shift studios dot com.

Well said. I agree, I don't even care for GT guys putting GXP fronts on unless they are at least at the same power level or above. (Of course the fact that they are less expensive than the GT bumper makes it logical lol) We have to protect the legacy of our G8s. Swapping fascia's and badges is part of what watered down mustangs. You can go on youtube and see "Saleens" or "GT500s" getting dusted, when its really just re-badged and a bodykit. Always, to each their own, but I think its a bad idea.
LuminaME 01-28-2011, 05:53 AM GT sounds nice , I thought of it too at first :)
But I wouldn't put a badge that would be known from seeing as not for the car....would be seen rice I guess!.
I searched for something that says "CR6", as the top of line in here (middle east) comes as CR8 (clubsport)
Eventually, I went with "SV6", put only after I put dual exhaust since V6 in here comes stock with single outlet exhaust.
Alternatively ... you can simply debadge

It's the 3.6L badge from the Caddy CTS. Any Caddillac dealership should have them in stock or be able to order them.

You guys get snow this winter on the Left Coast??? Whats your winter Beater???
Schwartz 01-29-2011, 12:53 AM We had 2 separate days of snow and the following day it rained and all washed away. All it does here is rain, kind of depressing.Picked up a 1998 malibu full load with 56,000 on it for 3g's shortly after i got the g8 for the crappy weather, snow's all around.Pretty decent car actually, but sure miss the G8.Just to keep on topic, almost tempted to put the 3.6 badge on since my rear is naked.kind of irritating sometimes when everybody wants to race you thinking you have a V8.
StBlGT 01-29-2011, 07:46 AM ^^^ just put your G8 badge back on (leaving off the pontiac lettering), but, on the LEFT side of your trunk. then, buy the 3.6 badge for the right side of the trunk. will look nice and even that way...JMO

The funny part about this is that Bad Karma who posted his rear end with the 3.6 badge has a GXP front bumper on his V6. Can't blame him though because he had to replace his because of an accident so he decided that he might as well get the GXP one. His car definitely look unique because it's a V6 with GT 19" Sport wheels and a GXP front bumper. He's not a poser in any way, he just liked the way all of the different parts worked together to create a great look.
Schwartz 01-31-2011, 08:43 AM There's nothing wrong with creating a great look,we all do it.But if you're going to go around and tell people you have a V8 when you don't,well....you suck:slap:
G8Jay 02-03-2011, 09:45 AM Yes I do correct people when they say nice engine, I wait to correct them though after they gush about all the other features and looks of the G8 in general
scruff24 02-21-2011, 08:02 AM How do you all feel about removing the GM chicklets and replacing w/ G8 symbol or 3.6 ? Anyone done that ?
SLO 60 02-21-2011, 01:55 PM Nice idea, wouldn't look bad imo.
Bad Karma 02-21-2011, 07:35 PM I've thought about replacing the chicklets with Holden victory badges. I thought might look hot.
It's your car my friend, do what you want. However, don't be surprised if you find yourself the topic of discussion on a lesser board, where someone is crying victory over that G8 GT they just killed. :)
Panzer Leader 03-09-2011, 07:04 PM Put a V12 on it. LOL look at some of the vendor custm plaques that you can have made. Check out Crazy Paul, the SV6 and Holden Flag enblems are nice as well.
jhilliard14 03-09-2011, 07:13 PM How do you all feel about removing the GM chicklets and replacing w/ G8 symbol or 3.6 ? Anyone done that ?
Lots of people remove those...I have on both of my GM cars. Some GT guys have put the 6.0 litre badges there, and I think the 3.6 badge would be good. My guess is you decided not to go with the GT emblem. Like most have said, it's your car, so you can do whatever you like. My only thing about that would be not wanting someone who doesn't know any better bragging about beating a GT....but then again, even when peeps get crushed they probably say they won anyways, so it's all whatever.
nophonypony 03-09-2011, 07:27 PM You have my permission to do whatever the hell you like!....its yours. lol enjoy yourself man... you only live once.
Holden_aus 03-10-2011, 06:10 AM go chev badge its aus's biggiest fashion, they even put chev badges on the earlier commodores aswell
scruff24 03-10-2011, 08:35 AM Ordered the 3.6 badge...still waiting for it to arrive...been two weeks...Ordered that and the two piece engine cover. JHilliard...yeah, decided against putting the GT on it...Just was looking to do something to it...actually figured less is best. Going to probably take off the "Pontiac"..on the back...put the 3.6 on the left.. Possibly remove the GM chicklets...maybe replace w/ "G8" down the road. Just spent some $$$ on CAI and Grills and the cover..so gonna cool it for a bit. (shoulda prolly just got the G8 badges....since I'll pay 10 shipping...but what the hey). Plus..it's parked...guess it's just boredom w/not driving it...that buying stuff to put in/on it gives me a reason to go out in the garage...uncover it...and tinker around.
scruff24 03-23-2011, 11:17 PM Put the 3.6 on the back Trunk.

scruff24 03-24-2011, 12:20 PM Love the grill covers. They were easy to put on, instructions straight foward. Took about an hour....maybe...(I took my time). I went w/ the regular satin covers. Got the lifetime warranty....just in case they tarnish or getted pitted or something. I reviewed them on pfyc.com. Quick shipping too.

Jarett75 04-02-2011, 09:15 PM I like the 3.6 badge, it looks sweet. I might have to pick one up. As far as the GT badge goes stick it on if you want. Its not like your putting a V8 badge on. I think the GT and G8 with the PONTIAC removed looks really good. Nobody is gonna think its a V8 when you turn the key. I put on a GXP diffuser, GT tails and solos with quad tips because it looks sweet, not to trick people. Basically do what ever floats your boat!

Rubbabubi 04-08-2011, 10:02 PM I took a couple pics of a G8 that I saw last week that was a V6 with some umm....unique badging on it. IMO it looks like crap. It had GT and GXP badges on it. It even had GXP badges on the fenders.

StBlGT 04-09-2011, 08:12 AM wow...that SRM car looks HORRIBLE.
knglibrty 04-09-2011, 08:26 AM It just means when he gets his ass handed to him the driver that smokes him will think the gxp is a dog.so when he gets destroyed by a REAL one he will think WTF......

I was just going to say the same thing he has put alot of money into it with the aftermarket rims chrome & around the doors... Strangely enough not the 1st GT/GXP badge I ever saw... I dunno if that car sounds like this one but there is no mistaking what this one is...

One word should do, FAKE!
The Dark Knight 04-09-2011, 01:40 PM I wouldn't. But it's your car man.
I have a GXP front bumber and GT tails and dual-dual exhaust tips like the GT/GXP. I don't pretend like its a V8 though.
I hate the V6 rims though. I'm debating whether to get GXP rims or CTS-V rims or Camaro SS rims on mine. I'm just waiting for my tires to go almost bald.

PONY MAN 04-09-2011, 06:16 PM wow...that SRM car looks HORRIBLE.
+1,000,000. The poor car is probably confused and may need to seek counseling soon, along with the owner. Way too much going on here IMHO... :barf:

There were not GXP badges on that one, just a dealer sticker above the GT. They said GT/GXP because the setup is for either vehicle.
Rich G 04-10-2011, 01:04 PM good call now that I have looked at it again...
The Dark Knight 04-10-2011, 01:58 PM would you go aftermarket rims???I'm not sure. I have friends who have 2010 Camaros and they have their stocks laying around so I know I can get SS rims for cheap.
GrandAMG8 04-27-2012, 02:40 PM if anyone needs a 3.6L badge i have an extra brand new one sitting around.
