I pissed him off by out-cornering him through the Benbrook traffic circle. I guess he thought he was on a sportbike.
We lined up at the next light with him at the line, me directly behind. I gave him the drop since I didn't want to be right on his ass. After that it was a dead heat up to about 75 or 80 and then I started pulling him a bit before I had to turn off.
I wouldn't dare race a sportbike - not even a 600 - but cruisers are fair game. Still, that VTX has a torquey mofo of an engine so I was curious as to the outcome.

If the guy was a decent rider he'd have smoked your G8, unless your G8 is faster than 12.72 sec., @ 105.1 mph.

Agreed! I've raced a VTX friend of mine with my Vmax and was surprised how quick it was... I beat him of course by a large margin but it still surprised me...:) Sure it wasn't a 1300?

Most bike riders (including myself) aren't worth a crap at launching. My ZX-12R is capable of a high-nines, 140+mph 1/4 mile time but I'm sure I could get nowhere near that without a number of practice passes.
So those numbers you see quoted for motorcycles' 1/4 mile times are more for bragging rights than anything else, unless you are Ricky Gadson. The rest of the time it's more about the rider than the bike - especially the part that happens in first gear. :)

That's what I was thinking, too.

No offense but I am going to have to say the rider had no idea what he was doing. A friend of mine has a VTX 1800 and I used to goof around with him alot on my 600RR and up until about 90 he could pace me.
Dont let that 12 second et fool you on that thing. The only reason its not faster is its not geared for the high end. I would expect if he really hit it hard he would have left you standing there. Hell my brothers 1700 road warrior is the same way.

No offense taken, and I fully expected him to walk me. Maybe it was one of those "Oh, were we racing?" episodes from his point of view, or more likely he's just not too experienced and maybe a little cautious of opening it up.

Funny who ya find around here. The thing with VTX's are the factory clutch. They all slip, a good aftermarket clutch will put an 1800 with an intake & pipes well into the 11's. Add a power commander and its low 11's. They arent easy to launch with 110lbs of TQ at the rear. If I nail it right, I pop the front wheel on the 1-2 shift. Keep in mind this is an 850 lb, 8 foot long, low to the ground bike.
