ag0514 07-08-2008, 07:08 PM I will be getting hid's on my g8...i was thinking about changing the bulbs on the high beams and on the fog lights..anyone done that yet? I found the bulbs for the foglights but wasn't sure about the high beams..i was told h11 for the high beams but was a little confused because the manuel states they are h9 the guy said they work thought anyone know? also what hid kit has anybody been using? and is is h7 or h11 for the hid kit?
wreckwriter 07-08-2008, 07:10 PM Check with Gremlyn, he knows all on this subject.
Rayvan 07-08-2008, 07:19 PM I absolutely *love* my stock headlights. No complaints at all...
ag0514 07-08-2008, 07:32 PM don't get me wrong the stock headlights are great but i saw a g8 with hid and it looked even better thats what made me look into it...the g8 i saw had white headlights with yellow foglamps...didn't like the foglight yellow and wouldn't get a bright white headlight but i am looking at 6000k and just changing the bulb in the high beam and foglamp to match..i didn't want to change the foglight to hid so just purchased the bulbs that are white and a blue white light bulb from piaa for the high beam...
Gfrom8 07-08-2008, 09:35 PM I saw a g8 with hid fogs and headlights it looked really cheesy, splurge a little and at least get the best bulbs. ds2's are the brightest I would go on mines, my cadillac has ds1's and they are great. I was thinking about getting some phillips ds1's or ds2's and putting them in the g8. I can get a set of ballasts cheap w/ 1 year warranty from.http://www.eurodezigns.com/index.htm

BS? Who asked you anyway. I hate know it all mf's.

Yes, BS and you are full of it.
No one makes HID bulbs to fit G8 foglight housing. And you cannot fit ds1 ds2 HID bulbs in a G8 either. And that's considering all HID require ballast and the brightness of HIDs is not determined by the model number, it is determined by the combination of ballast and the power of the light bulb itself. The only bulb which will fit the housing without any modification is H11. And if you are going to do a conversion, you should use H11 retro kit.
ag0514 asked me as much as he asked you. Just I'm posting what's right and you have no clue about it.
Gfrom8 07-09-2008, 05:34 PM There is a white g8 in or around Royal Oak, Michigan that has aftermarket hids both headlights and foglights whether you like it or not. And if you read first and not jump to insult people, you would have found that in my statement I simply said that I was thinking about getting some ds1's or ds2's for my g8, not I put some in already. My STS has Phillips ds1's and I have had to tear my headlights out and replace ballasts 2 or 3 times but I never had any problems with the bulbs, that's why I suggested that he splurge on good bulbs and make sure the ballast come with a warranty. Hey I'm just passing on my experience with hid's,Now if that's full of it I'll be that.
ag0514 07-09-2008, 07:31 PM ok..first off i am a girl...2nd got my hids installed, wish there were hid for the foglights..anyone know if there are...the bulbs i purchased for the foglights looked just like my stock..they are the putco brand..i told the installer to take them off so i can get my money back..the stupid guy from where i bought them just wanted to sell...so i am off tomorrow to return that ****...my installer had told me that there were no bulbs for the foglights or highbeam that would work but i didn't listen..but if anyone knows of a kit for the foglights let me know..

HIDs cannot look the same way as your regular bulbs. What you probably got is xenon loaded regular halogen bulbs. HIDs have to have ballast to work. And real HIDs are the only thing worth spending money on. Prices are around $130-200
Also, it's a big no-no to have HID bulbs in regular reflector. HIDs should be only used in cars with projector lenses...

per your description we can guess as much as we want, but we will never know for sure. All HIDs have a wire on the side of the bulb which is ceramic coated. Like you can see on all pictures attached previously. If the ones you have do not have that wire and ballast coming with them, they are not HIDs.
The fog lights are only 24watts and the housing is not deep enough to hold any automotive HIDs as of yet. And considering how rare that bulbs are, they probably won't be out for a really really long time.
ag0514 07-09-2008, 08:27 PM what can i do about the foglamps so that they aren't the stock yellow

give it some time and hopefully some one will come out with some xenon loaded bulbs with different color spectrum

Hey Dede. Why do you say it is a "no-no" to have them in regular reflectors? I have a set on my '02 Envoy and know of quite a few OEMs that use HID's in there non-projector style headlamps. Are you talking strictly aftermarket installs?

name me one ??
because only projector can have a clean cutoff line and regular reflector with HID will blind people.
you might like the way it looks, but i'm sure the oncoming traffic and people driving in front of you will hate you.

The '08 Mustangs have reflector-style HIDs. But I agree 100%, never ever put an aftermarket HID kit in a reflector housing that was designed for an incandescent bulb. In fact, I recommend against using any aftermarket HID kit, as every one available is illegal for road use in the U.S. and is not giving you proper light distribution.

just found another reason not to buy a Ford.
But actually aftermarket HIDs are no longer illegal thanks to SEMA.

need4spd 07-14-2008, 12:10 AM Dede, volvo XC90 up till 2007 had regular reflectors and HID with sharp cut off's
In 2007 they went to projectors though.
racerx 07-14-2008, 09:00 AM A left, and a right...oh....down for the count!
NVR2FST 07-14-2008, 09:53 AM Our Lincoln Navigator had relector style HID's as well.
I just wish there was something available for the foglights. I hate when they don't match....

Aftermarket HIDs (and other lighting modifications) are legal ONLY if the replacement systems meets the same photometric requirements, which drop-ins will not, as the actual light generating source in an HID "bulb" is a different size and shape, and in a different location, than the light source of an incandescant bulb.
This changes the shape of the light pattern and the intensity at different spots in the pattern from what it should be, even with a projector system (lenses have focal points too, just like reflectors.) If the housing isn't designed for HID, don't put HID in it.
NOTE: Photometrics includes perceived brightness to the human eye, so if your lights look brighter to oncoming drivers, they aren't meeting the standard.
If you really need to have HIDs in a car that doesn't sell with them, get some of Hella's 50 or 90mm HID modules and build yourself a mounting solution for them.
Light regulation is based on flares, not the actual light brightness. 90% of projector lights will not change the light direction output because of internal flat line cut off. In fact, if you actually try HID bulbs in your G8, you will see that it doesn’t change the light coming out of it which will not make it illegal by the new standards. And if you try to move the bulb inside you will also notice that it doesn’t affect the way the light gets spread out.

these are just some of the non projector hid equipped cars i can think of real quick, i'm sure there are more... point being, you don't have to have projectors for an aftermarket hid kit to work... sure the "cut-off" line is great for not blinding people, but the light output is still the same regardless of what the housing does to the light once emitted...
my 07 Honda Fit has 6000k headlights and 3000k fog lights... looks great and works amasing esp on the interstate...
GorillaNYC 07-25-2008, 04:13 PM Dede is correct...you can't put HIDs in a non-projector headlight. Here in NY everyone does it, and it is annoying as f**k:madsign3:. And if the police are bored, they will pull you over and give you a nice ticket...money that could have been donated to "Help G8z Take Over the Streets" charity :driving:
GorillaNYC 07-25-2008, 04:19 PM PS the main issue is that when you do put HIDs in cars that are not meant for them....you EFFING BLIND PEOPLE...which is not kool. And I am going to install a BB gun on my G8 to shoot out those losers's lites :patriot:
keglo69 11-09-2009, 01:45 PM Noticed my former HID'd headlight lenses fogging and getting moisture on the inside of the lens. Well today replacing a mauled CAI bucket I looked and the slobs who removed my HID kit, left the plug, grommet our of the back cover so I had a 1" hole on both headlamp buckets, wide open getting car wash water into the bucket. Little bit of clear silicone and we are home free. Never will I patronize or trust my former garage.
