anybody else notice how short the turning radius is on the g8? i've got the 18inch wheels and have really been surprised by how sharp this car can turn. just wondered if anybody else has noticed the same.

Coming out of a Hyundai Tiburon the G8 seems to need lots of space to turn around. for a big car though, yea, it's good.

Definitely agree, the turning radius is surprisingly tight.

But seriously?

Even after reading the specs, it was unexpected!…LOL!

And that's not just me! :wink2:

It doesn't seem to be any better than my trailblazer... maybe im smoking something. BUT WAY better than a Park Ave... sux i have to drive that boat for work. Its like going from the worst ever GM car to the Best ever GM car.

i know it's better than my g35 was. anyway, surprising for such a large car...

G35 35.40
G8 37.40

The turning radius on G8 is nothing special. Quick steering wheel rate gives you that feel. You have less than 1.5 turns of the steering wheel to achieve maximum turning radius so when you are moving, you are spending more time making the actual turn than spinning the steering wheel.

odd, cause it sure feels like the g8 turns sharper than the g35 coupe did. guess it's all in the perception.

What size tires did U have on the G35? I believe the late ones are 17" and the stock G8 1s 18"

That would make it "feel" different also.

The 18" are still pretty rare sort of, kind of, without an up grade on a lot of cars. :)

Just a thought!

Cheers!

A generous application of the right pedal with the wheel cranked over will also cut that radius down................a lot!

This is true, given you have slowed the car enough prior. Othewise you may as well be driving a school bus. ;) As the saying goes, "slow in = fast out." :D

This would be a great subject for this topic.

Nice driving, and that's the coolest ride mower I've ever seen! :)

(Is that an optical illusion or is the course really setup so you go over the lawn!?)

That was me getting way to happy with throttle steer. When I first got the car I had read a lot about the G8 and the Commodore and their easily controllable oversteer. When I took it on it's first autocross I was less concerned with my run time and more interested in trying some opposite lock myself. There was a two gate turn in a very tight section of the course. I was supposed to go way right and turn 180 degrees and exit though the opposite gate. I instead stuck the nose into the left side of the entry gate, steered hard over and slammed the go pedal to the floor which sent the car sliding around the turn and out the exit gate. Problem was I had got the car a little more sideways than anticipated and caught the grass :gr_devil:. Even in the grass the car never spun and I was able to get it back straight at pointed to the next turn with very little drama. Beautiful stock suspension on these cars. The SCCA was not happy about my mowing skills however so I refrained from further "testing".

LOL

Yea "drifting" is frowned upon in SCCA Solo, but way too much fun to do in a G8. The chassis is amazingly composed even when hung out. I have yet been able to put a good "time" lap in because it is just way more fun driving it a little (or more) sideways. It's not going to win any FS championships so why not have some fun, eh? :)

That is a great photo and I hope you have it framed on the wall :D

it was one of the first things I was impressed with also. Great for pulling out of tight parking spots too.

Yes! Given the wheelbase of this car it does have a good turning radius!

It is easier to set up a high wheel cut angle when there are no driveshafts connected to it.

Much better than a Volvo S60R too! Those things are horrible!
