Hey guys,

As with Rob thought it would be cool to see how things are going over in the US with the G8's :)

Good to see you on here too Rob (redoctober) :)

Here's my VE SSV.. picked it up early Feb this year and have done just under 6000k's thus far..

Have had it lowered thus far with some chev gear on it eg badges/grill and wheel caps.. also had some alpine gear installed inside and HID lights fitted..

I really enjoy driving it .. especially on the longer trips...

It has the 6 speed manual box in it with the 6L L98 V8.. and 19' ssv rims.. also had silver dash strips and steering wheel inserts put in mine..

anyhow onto a couple of pics!

:slap: your gonna make the natives jealous with the pic of the manual shifter in it. :driving:

Nice looking car mate lowered with the ssv 19's looks sweet. Mines blue with the ssv rims and I think I may just drop it a tad to set it off.

cheers

Nice ride. You should get the chevy logo fo the steering wheel and remove the v logo n the back and the ss from the sides. Then add impala logos to the rear behing the windows on the sides...

and you will have the car chevy should be importing here instea of building that FWD joke that is sullying the impala ss name.

I went chev grill as i think it goes better with the cars lines n shape and aggressive look.. the holden one i had on it the badge was like 13cm across.. too big imo!

I wouldn't mind a G8 hood with the air ducts :) I'd say though it'd have to be modified up front to cut that front peice off.. prob cost me an arm and a leg lol

FWD Joke!!! LOLOLOLOLOL!!!! And i suppose that dinosaur impala from '94 to '96 was any better! FYI, its over a second and a half slower when getting to 60MPH!!! No lie that this would make a great 2010 impala, but the impala we have now is still pretty amazing, no matter what you think!!! :soapbox:

It is not all about speed. I admit that they have done wonders with that car. But it is still a joke when compred with what they could have done with it.

As some of you who are in the know may have guessed I am a police car fan. I figure if it can stand up to police duty it can stand up to me. Unfortunatly the impalas are not up to half of what the 30 year old designed Crown Vics are, and this is from me... a huge GM fan. They do not handle as well they cannot take as much abuse and they are a whole lot less spacious.

If they wanted to call it a Lumina I would have been fine with that. Hell the DoD ran luminas as MP vehicles for a few years. But an Impala it ain't. That would be like calling a Fiero a Corvette... or a Probe a Mustang... or the last generation Cougar a Cougar.

Right you are. This would make a great impala. But to me, truly, chevy doesnt need a RWD impala. For one thing, the FWD impala is selling so well and a RWD impala will only make sales dwindle. The sales record for the G8 is ok but hasnt been groundbreaking. This is ok for pontiac, especially since the G8 is RWD, but chevrolet is the mainstream brand. An impala with sales similar to the G8 will probably mean either discontinuation, or moving the impala from the mainstream market to the more exclusive market. Neither would be a good thing.

Secondly, with chevrolet being the mainstream brand, the impala will take sales away from the G8(thats not saying much, because as i just mentioned, sales will be low). So i say its best if we let the G8 be GM's ONLY non luxury RWD sedan. Its best that way.

Keeping Impala front drive lowers cost and raises fuel economy. RWD for Pontiac makes it distinct from Chevy and provides ultimate performance.

If Chevrolet had decided to offer this as the new Impala SS, I probably would have waited for this and not gotten a G8:

It's different enough in appearance that I don't think there would have been a conflict with sales of the G8.

Used Meguiars Tech wax on her one coat then buffed off with a soft lint free microfibre cloth!.. came up the best ive seen on any of my cars!.. very impressed with this tech wax!

Mine is the SSV spoiler.. also the same as the SS and SV6 spoiler.. comes with car here..

About yours.. I'd say it could be a non genuine remake... holdens genuine wings are precisely edged all over and solid plastic.. is yours fibre glass or something?

yes mine's fiberglass, and far from "precisely edged, and was hollow (I filled it with 3M "pillar foam" to get rid of the hollow sound it had)

here's the thread about it (JHP defends it as Genuine on page two) http://www.g8board.com/forums/showthread.php?t=5080

sometimes you guys from Australia amaze me. The real SS-V spoiler was only put on cars in first years of production. It's taller and has a step on the bottom which is painted black from the manufacturer. After that it's been replaced with SV6 style spoiler across all VE (SV6 and SS)models. And now it's been brought back for 60th anniversary edition.

The ssv has come with both the higher stepped up wing and the lower sv6 style aswell.. theres two different types yes.. but if they come from the factory from holden like that and on an SSV.. it imo is a spoiler from an SSV.. but yes I'd prefer the stepped up version with blacked out section over my current style wing! Maybe holden ran out of the higher stepped wings who knows.. no big deal!

dede
08-24-2008, 01:20 PM
yes, you can say that
I just call lower one SV6 and the taller one SSV - since it is the way they originally came out

and also SSV is not as sharp on the edges as SV6

Yes, but it'll stay since the Impala with a 4 speed gets 29 MPG. If GM would just spend the money to put a 6 speed in they would have the only full size car in the industry that gets 30mpg+

However you are 100% correct that the car you describe is the true righteous successor to the Impala SS.

Been a while.. Have since added some in car audio being Alpine amps, two 12" R type subs and also got some German Maestro 6.5" splits for the front doors and 6.5" coaxials for the rear doors! - one can feel there chest and hair moving in the front seat now :D.

Shes also had a few custom touches being new rear badges inc custom 454 badge and the new all in one SSV badge as well as the GXP rear diffuser.

Also have a new front spoiler piece and new black leather with red middle and stitching about to go in. Car has done about 43,000kms now. New oil catch can finally on too.

That's a slick looking car, great numbers.

Great shots too, you're very talented behind the camera. I've always loved the 454 big block's over here in America... that's a neat badge on the trunklid too. So it's a 454 aluminum block with a supercharger and were those nitrus fittings I saw on the close up of the engine pics?

How much horsepower are you putting down on that thing?

We can only hope our vaporware 2012 Chevy SS becomes a reality. :)

Hey Christian, the VE trim is made so one can pull of their existing trim and put on these if wanted. There is a guy online who sells the full seat trim to replace what ever you have on for around $600 AUD which is very reasonable! fits as tight like factory SSV leather :).

No additional bolstering atm :).

Hey mate.

Thanks for the kind words :). Over here majority of cars run numbers on the boot lid relevant to how much KW or rwhp they are putting out. As much as Id love to have a stroker 454 , the number on mine relates to the rear wheel horsepower she's currently running, although I wouldn't put a stroker off of the cards just yet ;).

No Nos on her either as its illegal over here in Aus :\.

Thanks for the comments :)
