I just got my G8 GT last week and am already getting the mod bug. I already have a pair of Rockford 10" subs in with an Alpine amp and am now looking to upgrade the rest of the system. Just wondering, of those that put in aftermarket door speakers if we could get a list going for reference for the rest of us looking to do it to refer to.

Could you please tell us the following info it would be great:
- Brand and model of speaker
- Installation ease (i.e. need to make mods to the door, dropped right in, etc.)
- Are the speakers powered by the HU or an aftermarket amp
- And impressions of the sound improvement over the stock speakers

I am sure that all comtemplating an upgrade would love to hear your feedback. Thanks. :hail:

polk audio 2 ways in all doors, sony 800w amp for a pair of infinity ref 10" subs in a dual enclosure in trunk, install was silly easy(except some pain in the ass directions from the mtx re-q I added)
3 hours for the whole exchange-1 person.

sounds amazing!!! And I can say that since I have had high quality systems in every car I've owned.

I am using,
Pioneer ODR Speakers (splits front and rear), with standard Bose Head Unit and standard amp, different system to the G8
Standard install, simple to do.
Removed the Bose speakers which i thought were good till i put the ODR speakers in, 500% change in quality, you would throw the Mexican made Bose speakers out, they are rubbish, just like the standard VE, G8 speakers, they are also rubbish.

Bump. Now that more people have G8's and have had them longer just looking for more updates on what people have and what their thoughts are on their speakers. Looking to upgrade mine and just looking for as much info as possible so I can make a wise choice since the economy sucks so bad and most of us don't have enough $$ to go through a bunch of trial and error. Thanks.

I upgraded all 4 doors to Infinity Kappa 62.7i speakers. Many people used them and recommended them, so that's what I went with.

I got a great deal on them. I bought them off eBay for $85/set with free shipping, and then got 30% cash back since I bought using Microsofts Live.com cashback. Ended up being $120 for all 4 speakers, shipped.

I really haven't spent much time listening to them since I got them installed, but they do sound much better.

I went with the Infinity kappa 62.9i. I installed them in all four doors and they sound fantastic compared with the OEM speakers. Mid-bass improvement is what I really wanted and I got plenty of it. Overall response improved dramatically as well. The overly extended higher midrange that I experienced with the OEM speakers has evened out and things are right where I want them.

As far as install, it was fairly straight forward. I used the OEM bracket for the front door and just drilled new hole into it. I ended up going with the mounting bracket included with the Infinity kappas for the rear door. You simply screw the Infinity mounting bracket to the door and then screw the speakers into it. Make sure to use the included seal that they give you with the speakers. Not that the door is air tight to begin with, but I believe that you should seal the immediate baffle area around all speakers as well as possible.

When you get to the point of wiring, it as well is very straight forward. When you disconnect the OEM speakers, you will notice on the back right next to the terminal that there is a “+” adjacent to one of the two soldering points. That is obviously your positive. As far as attaching the new speaker to the OEM wiring, you can do it one of two ways. Either cut off the OEM terminal clips and wire the OEM wire directly into the kappas crossover box, or go to AutoZone and by some larger male style slide on terminals and push them straight onto the OEM terminal clips. You see clearly what I am talking about when you take the OEM speakers out. I personally cut the wires because I don’t trust slide on type terminals as I had them come off in past installs. The 62.9i has an external crossover box which is permanently attached to the speaker by a wire about 6 inches long.

I added a 10” sub and a Class D mono amp to drive it as well. This setup sounds extremely good. Even without the addition of the sub, the install of the kappa by themselves would have dramatically improved upon the OEM system.

I too installed the Kappa 62.9i in all four doors. They are efficient speakers and the system is noticeably louder and clearer. Although I do believer the sub amp and sub that I installed are a requirement to bring the G8's awful sound system up to par with the imports. I rode in a new MB yesterday, what a great sound system. Our G8's rock but GM really missed the boat with the audio system. I recommend to anyone that wants clearer, louder music and maybe some more audio adjustments ( I left as is for now) too start with the Infinity's but you will need to do more.

For those of you that installed coax speakers in the doors, what did you do with the tweeters in the dash? Leave them connected or disconnect them?

I kept mine in place. I have a brand new set of tweeters from a Focal K2P set that I never used in my last install. I think I will replace the OEM tweeter with them.

I have a set of CDT 3 way components 6.5" /4"/ 1" i am putting in mine. I have to fab a spot for the 4" mid in the kick panels to complete the install though. I had these in my vette and they sound outstanding. Granted they are a 500.00 system and require about 200 watts rms per side. But they really sound great, the mid bass is very punchy and the vocals are crisp and clear.

I left the tweeters alone as I did the subs. Figured that I could always disconnect later if necessary and now I see no reason to disconnect. The rear subs seem to play mid range frequency so they seem to actually add to the overall sound once you add a real sub. The tweeters, can't even hear those pieces of junk so see no reason to remove/disconnect.

I left the dash tweeters and center speaker alone. Infinity Kappa 62.7i speakers in all the doors. I put 8" Kicker subs in the rear deck replacing the stock subs and replaced the stock rear amp with a generic 100 watt sub amp.

It sounds a lot better, and is more than enough power for me.

Infinity Kappa 62.7 in all 4 doors Infinity Reference 8" subs rear deck. All currently using stock power.

The 62.7s are great sounding. They really cleaned up the sound. I had bass blockers on them originally, but since speakers were 2 ohm brought cut-off frequency up too high. I removed them and made sure all tweeters were set at 0dB and not at +3. simple install and fits great

The subs were a pain to install. The DIY instructions were great and easy to follow. Biggest issue was fit of the subs in hole. Aside from that, they have good sound and are on the verge of sounding passable with sub amp gain on max. I will be replacing stock amp soon to get the sound I want.

I used the K2P's in my Nissan 350z and had a dedicated Zapco Reference 1000 running them. They handled the majority of that amp with no problem and sounded absolutley insane!

I still have a brand new set of K2P tweeters and crossovers and thought about putting them in my dash replacing the OEM.

Alpine Type X 6.5" (SPX-17PRO)

Installer said that minimum work was needed to make them fit

Alpine PDX Amplifier (PDX-2.150)

Over stock, these speakers sound AMAZING. The factory speakers are a complete and utter joke. I mainly listen to Hip Hop & R'n'B, and these speakers deliver a beautiful full sound.

I've got Boston Pro's in my truck. I've never heard any component system that would play as loud as these with as little distortion. I've got 75W off a JL slash series going to each one and they will scream. They are a little pricy, but they are worth it.
