G8 GT owners;

FYI

I have 6,500 miles on my G8 GT. I noticed steam coming from my hood after driving to work. After looking around, I found the small hose running from a connection on the front side of the radiator cap/neck that bends 180 degrees and runs to an engine connection on the RH side (as you face the engine compartment) of the engine air intake was leaking anti-freeze. The cause of the damage was the hose rubbing against the backside of the radiator top due to the engine vibrations/movement. The hose had a 3" long rub abrasion that looked like it had been held against a belt sander. Half of the thickness of the hose had been completely rubbed off to the point anitfreeze was now streaming out when the engine was at operation temp. and turned off. There are plastic clips molded into the radiator top for these hoses but they did not stop the movement, rubbing or abrasion.

You might want to inspect both the small diameter engine and overflow hoses that run on top of the radiator on the engine side under the baffle box. You will likely need to remove the air intake baffle box to see them clearly. The hose running to the anti freeze overflow tank was OK since it was not subject to the engine vibrations/movement.

Just checked mine. You can see where it contacts but The is no damage, yet. I'm going to put a little wrap in that area just to be safe.
Thanks for the heads-up.

Good find! No wear yet @ 5000K, But I used some hard plastic spiral wrap to protect the hose. That should definetely be reported to Pontiac ASAP.

I agree it should be reported, I checked mine and it's rubbing on the air intake and I only have 500 miles on it AND it's an '09 so apparently they haven't corrected the problem...:slap:

Thanks Again for spotting this...

YEY! I finnaly got my car back after 31 days!

When I got home I checked it.

I can't believe you got a leak there. Going to put some electrical tape there.

FYI to G8 GT owners;

Floowing up on my previous post.

The Pontiac dealer said the antifreeze line running from the radiator cap neck to the engine MUST be secured by the U clip on the radiator top closest to the engine and NOT in the U clip closest to the front of the car. The U clip closest to the front of the car is for the anti freeze overflow hose going to the overflow tank. If the two lines on top of the radiator are switched, the line going to the engine will get worn away by the engine vibration/movement.

I just moved my overflow line to the top of the bracket. It was pulled tight underneath it. It did have a nice dent in it, but no leakage.
