: On Star and XM options??

Does anyone know yet if On Star and XM satellite radio will be offered as options or standard equipment on any trim levels of the G8? Driving an 04 GP GTP right now, I really enjoy the factory installed XM radio. I hope this is not like the GTO's, which came without that option.

Seeing as the G8 is supposed to have a wider appeal in the US I would be very surprised if they weren't offered.

In fact, I would guess when the new VE was being designed, the designers took that into account with regards to having the necessary provisions for such US-market specific features.

I would think they'll have to put OnStar in the G8. It seems like this car is going to be a long term run for Pontiac. And judging by how it is being received so far, it's going to be a good run.

Well isnt the production suppose to move to Canada at some point, maybe after the first couple years? Maybe when it switches to US production we will see them. I wouldnt be suprised to see them now but I kinda doubt it.

I haven't heard anything about moving production to Canada. The only Canada plant I've heard about is the Camaro at Oshawa (sp?).

If this car goes long term, it would make a lot of sense to move it here.

Hope so!! GM invested money into OnStar and got behind in the important matters......building cars.

We all have cell/pcs phones anyway.....OnStar..not needed

It's going to have these standard. I personally don't like XM but since GM has a stake in it, it's in there interest to only offer XM.

What about navigation? Has anyone heard anything either way on that? The one interior shot that shows the radio looks like it has a button at the top that says NAV but I can't tell for sure. Also one of the pics also shows a little phone symbol on the steering wheel. Is bluetooth a possibility or could this just be for an integrated cell phone? I'm hoping for the bluetooth and navi.

It'll have XM/Onstar and an optional NAV unit. The Nav unit is actually pictured in the press photos :)

I didn't see SatNav mentioned in the press release :(
The pics show the high spec stereo display that doesn't necessarily have to have satnav - but I don't see why they wouldn't offer it these days.
Didn't see DVD option mentioned either. Commodores can option a roof DVD for the rear which can feed to the front display.

From what I have heard it will be 6 year cycle for us in Australia unless of course we need the space for a new midsize RWD called the Torana TTV6 (Twin Turbo V6) The Torana originally was a midsize RWD 6cyl and came with 2 V8's available as well running from 1969 to 1978. This TTV6 would be another awesome car next to a G8 in particular if you want a fast midsize RWD. The car has been seen as a concept in Australia and it looks great. Not dissimilar to a smaller VE Commodore. Thoughts that may excite you. Any questions feel free to ask me.

Personally, it would not be the same if built elsewhere unless of course in went to Canada in completely knocked down (CKD) format as this car has taken GMH 10 years of hard work developing this car and GMH are GM's rear wheel drive specialists. The Commodore has been Australia's largest selling car for 11 years straight. Was designed by Mark Simcoe, A Aussie who has been promoted high up in the GM world. He also designed the Monaro and the Torana TTV6.

Its bluetooth which is also available standard in all Commodores except the base Omega which you are not getting. We have the Omega, SV-6, SS, Berlina, Calais and Calais V. Also ute's are due out this year and Wagons on there way also. Word is you will get the ute version of the Commodore as well. Not sure if it will be badged Pontiac or Chevrolet though.

I don't want Onstar. Law enforcement has used Onstar to track people, and to bug cars in the United States. I want a 2008 G8, not a 1984 G8. If they put it in, I'm taking it out myself.

Plus everyone has cell phones anyway.

That's because they're not going to offer NAV in the G8; they want people to pay for OnStar's turn-by-turn service, which is a poor substitute for in-dash NAV or even a traditional paper map!

Well said, I agree. The G8 is so appealing to me because everything about it embodies the Australian V8 tradition that I have drooled over for years but have not had the chance to experience here in the US. If they would start making it outside of Australia, it would lose some of its mystique and appeal.
