: G8 to be 35,000 to 40,000?
Hello, Im new here and I read a magazine today for 2008 cars and it said the base G8 was going to start at $35,000 and the top of the line was going to be $40,000. I hope this is not true because if it is I wont be buying one, this will be bad for pontiac and GM if this happens.
Bonequark 09-24-2007, 01:18 PM Don't read magazines. They're filled with tripe!
Lichtronamo 09-24-2007, 02:01 PM The price could go higher given the changes in currency exchange rates between the US dollar and AU dollar. The decline of the US dollar raises the cost of importing the G8 (as suggested in the Lutz interview re: importing the Ute). If GM wants to make any money on the G8, it may in fact need to increase the price.

It won't be affected as much as you think by dollar differences. It is GM's own company the car is coming from. Shipping costs can rise for sure, but GM is not "buying" the G8 at invoice and then tacking on shipping - if they were the V6 would start OVER $40,000. The same can be said of all the European imports. M-B no longer has any ties to American companies but the new C-class starts less than $32k, just about the price of a MKZ.
Of course you can also look at one of the domestic targets taht POntiac has claimed to shoot for - the Dodge Charger, starting price for other than fleet special is V6 $26k, V8 $31k

I agree. I see the G8 Sedan (V6) starting at just under $26k, and topping out under $30k with options. The G8 GT (L76) will pick up where that one leaves off, allowing you to get the most basic GT sedan for under $30k, but a typically optioned one ringing in around $33-34k and fully-optioned (with the special wheels, etc) at $35k. I would anticipate GXP (LS3) pricing to follow suit, starting off at $36-37k and probably be no more than $40k with all options.
Just my $.02, from what knowledge I can glean from the one person I know who has a little inside scoop.
Swahili 12-06-2007, 01:35 PM I'm anxious to know the Canadian pricing. Hopefully with the dollar situation they'll be close to what they are in the States. Guess I'll just have to wait and find out when Pontiac puts pricing on the web. Are we going to have to endure dealer markup again??
chiefpontiac 12-06-2007, 02:21 PM The V6 starts at $27,595 and the V8 GT at $29,995 both including $685 shipping USD. Package prices are already floating around but not yet on pontiac.com. Add a premium package for 1250, sunroof for 900 and sport package for summer driving only at 600 GT tops out at $32,745, or skip the sport and add allseason tires at 150 and you can buy a GT for $32,295. Hey, GM listen up - I so wish you would offer the $1900 AWD from the CTS and we'd have really world class for under $35k.:bubbrubb:
Already dealers have agreed to fleet pricing or GMS or other discounts and members have locked in vehicles at LESS than MSRP.
As far as Canadian pricing, use your current offerings as a guide and build some examples of Solstice and GP or G6 and compare average price differentials and I think you will be close.
CHASLS2 12-31-2007, 05:13 PM Wonder if used G8 prices will fall like a rock, like it did with the GTO?

It will depreciate just like any other mainstream GM car. Dealers will be selling them for less than MSRP after six months too.

Nice find. Looks like about $32,400.00 for me after tax, license and trade in. Very acceptable! My 2000 Bonneville SSEi was more than that.
