: CASE Relearn without DashHawk
g8_795 07-22-2008, 08:30 PM I found this on a couple of sites. It says that you can do a CASE relearn on GM vehicles, in the absence of a scan tool, with the following procedures. Has anybody ever tried this?
1. Turn off all of the accessories.
With the Air temperature sensor and
Coolant temperature within 5 degrees
(Centigrade) of each other, start the
engine and let it idle in Park or
Neutral for two minutes.
2. Accelerate the vehicle to 55 mph at
part throttle. Cruise at 55 mph for 8-
10 minutes until the engine reaches
operating temperature.
3. Cruise at 55 mph for another 5-6
minutes.
4. Decelerate to 45 mph without
using the brakes, and maintain 45
mph for 1 minute.
5. Perform 4 deceleration cycles,
without using the brakes, of 25
seconds each where no specific
speed is necessary. Returning to 45
mph for 15 seconds in between
deceleration cycles.
6. Accelerate to 55 mph and cruise
for 2 minutes.
7. Stop the vehicle and idle for 2
minutes with the brake applied and
the transmission in Drive (automatic
trans.) or Neutral (manual trans.)
with the clutch depressed. Refer to
diagram A on page 8.

Sadly that will not work, it has to be a commanded cycle test.

That is exactly what I was thinking. How is anyone going to complete that procedure??? Here is the PDF.

It is dated fall 2003.

That would work on older GMs, but even then if you missed 1 detail it made for a long day!
g8_795 07-27-2008, 12:29 PM So, I was not able to find anyone around here to do the relearn for me and I never tried this ridiculous procedure in the pdf. Since I am on the dyno tomorrow, I wanted to make sure I wasn't throwing any other codes, so I took it to the dealer. I just told them that the check engine light came on. They pulled the code, relearned the crank, and told me that if it happens again, that something more serious may be wrong. I said, roger that and left. No more check engine light... :)
I may have to get a Dashhawk because they look so useful.

It is a great inexpensive tool for the DIYer. It will teach you alot about how 1 thing effects another.
