: JBA Headers??

Anyone see that there is a set of JBA headers on eBay? I am surprised that nothing has been mentioned here about their release. Just wondering how they compare to the ARH's?

Looks like they are pre-sales with a relaeas date of 7/30. It is hard to compare a full system like the ARH to a set of shorties. I would expect gains in the 10-15 rwhp gains at best.

I tentatively agree with you. Will find out fairly soon as I just bought a set and will do a before and after dyno run at Vector and we'll see just what they are really worth on a mildly modded car. Will talk to Kirk @ Vector and see about having him dyno the car before I have him install these and then again afterwards. Will also see just how much extra tuning will be required with these installed which should give a pretty good indication as to just how much backpressure they really relieve ( real world ) while using the factory cats. I do have the Magnaflow system on the car now which will stay on the car. Will also see just how much these headers affect the sound quality and volume. Stay tuned!!!

I think they will work if MF does that straight shot converter. Our converters shape and design is a restriction in itself.

These are also listed on Gravana's site for about the same price. I'm waiting to see what other companies like Kooks, SLP, and Stainless Works do and if JBA designs a set of mid pipes and hi-flow cats to go with their shorties before I do anything.

I spoke to Geo.Kook at Atco Raceway in June and he had a G8 in his shop at that time using it for mock up.

They claim 24/24 is the gains at the wheels. Not too bad for the price. I'm curious to see the results here on the site. If it is true, I'll be picking up a set.

Personally I will never buy long tubes again, they are way too much trouble then they are usually worth. Burnt starters, not being able to remove said starter, burnt wires, not being able to remove the trans with them in, limiting your mid pipe selection, loss of low end torque and installation problems just to name a few. Now this was all from mustangs I modified so I am not sure of the logistics on the G8. However my opinion is that if the JBAs or other shorties show that kind of gain, then the only reason I see for long tubes is on a dedicated track car that needs the few extra top end ponies.

I think the only way we will see those gains is with the new cats that MagnaFlow is coming out with. My fear is that although the headers are nicely priced, the cats will make it a pricey mod.

If I had to guess the cats will be around $500.00 for both.

Yea. Could be worse I guess. I bet you're not far off.

WILL ALSO DO A BEFORE/AFTER DYNO OF THE CATS FROM MF AS THEY BECOME AVAILABLE. KIRK...IF YOU ARE READING THIS WE ARE GOING TO BE SPENDING A LOT MORE TIME TOGETHER.....I'LL BRING LUNCH.

good to know that Vector will be involved too. They will then know what tune updates are needed for the rest of us :)

I have installed the ARH long tubes on my G8 and they have none of the problems that you describe above (it comes with its own mid X-pipe). The install is so clean that if you did not know you might think it is factory. Kaltech showed a 38 rwhp gain with no other mods for theses long tubes. I am not sure why there is a perception that long tubes will decrease torque. For similar sized primaries, a properly designed long tube header will give you better low and midrange torque than shorty headers and stock manifolds. The posted dyno graphs show an increase in low and midrange torque.

a'ight I am not a tree hugger, but seriously, if you are going to run your car on the street it behooves you to do it in the least destructive way possible...

hell we are not even talking about CO2 here... I will stipulate to there being some deate on its green house effect... we are talking about oxides of nitrogen and unburnt hydrocarbons... nasty stuff.

Actually, cars run a lot richer now then they did 20 years ago. The reason? To avoid nitrogen oxides. I'm not convinced that its worth the effort for this, to waste fuel, just to help trap/not create NOx.

Honda called it "lean burn", and its why a Honda CRX, Geo Metro, and a few other models were getting almost 50mpg in the late 80's, early 90's. I'm willing to bet that if the cats were off our cars, they were equipped with WB02 sensors (Hondas were), we could probably pulled well into the 30's on the highway.

I have to say I have the ARH long tubes installed on my car and experience none of these issues as well. Maybe it depends on who manufactures the headers. I know I am extremely happy with the ARH kit and will be a customer for years to come.

G8s have a 4.0 1st gear to help with any low end torque issues, clearance issues don't appear to be an issue.

I went with the 1 3/4" primary tubes. I talked with Nick at ARH and these should be good to ~600rwhp without any real hp loss to the 1 7/8" tubes and should have a little better low and mid range torque.

We expect to have the JBAs very soon. (ETA = TBA). Gravana was the primary force behind getting JBA (Thanks G.R.!) to get on this program ASAP.

Gravana will stock the entire JBA G8 line, as well as offering some great packages for those looking for multiple upgrades.

They will make power to 600, 500 is when the 1 7/8 might show the gain with a power adder
