: New 5.0 'Stang
Aight guys give me some argument advice to go against my uncle with. He doesn't think a new '11 5.0 mustang can beat me in my stock GT. Give me some weight to horse facts and comparisons please. Also proper weight distribution specs. He seems to believe that because of his past experience with his '91 mustang he said it was too light in the back end. I'd like to believe I could beat one but I have my doubts. I don't have all the facts. Thanks in advance.
StBlGT 04-20-2011, 09:39 PM don't know the stang specs exactly but there is NO WAY a stock G8 GT is beating a stock 2011 5.0 stang. the G8 would need at LEAST tune, intake, & headers before i'd feel comfortable going after one.
That's what I figured. Back in the day he got his ass smoked one too many times by vettes while he wAs in his stang so he thinks GM is where it's at. He doesn't believe when I say ford has really been getting it's stuff together.
5litrarag 04-20-2011, 10:39 PM a new 5.0 is NOT the same as his old 91. Not even close....
It wouldnt just beat your car, it'd embarrass it.
With stock gears it'd be a killing, if its got the optional 3.73, it'd be a slaughter from the very start.
mongosG8 04-20-2011, 10:50 PM Yeah .. Already tried to screw around with my buddy in his 2011 5.0
I went home with my tail between my legs.. it was a slaughter.
Thanks guys. I think I have him convinced now.lol It'd help having some actual specs tho. What does this new 5.0 have that the old ones didn't? Just newer tech? WTH

Its only got a new everything. hahaha
The biggest thing is the new 5 liter, 32 valve motor that makes almost 200 hp more than the old 5 liter pushrod motor that was in his 91.

agreed with intake exhaust and a GOOD tune it be close against a stock 5.0, but if you have headers youll takem, just raced a new black one the other night, silly kid had no idea what he was up against... should have seen his face when he was reving at a light next to me and then i open my cut outs and said hello ;]
lol

Nice!

It just keep getting worse. Your uncle's car will destroy any stock G8 GT out there.
The Mustang weighs 400lbs less and has 50 more HP.
bostonf4$ 04-21-2011, 10:24 AM It would take at minimum intake/tune/exhaust to hang w/ a regular mustang gt auto, the manual would probably walk away, and if it had the optional gears (3.73) would beat you pretty good.
That's assuming a GT w/ those mods would be a top performer 13.0 - many guys get low 13's w/ those mods - some have gottem 12.9999 BUT a STOCK manual GT would be in that range and a stock GT w/ the 3.73's can get into the 12.7ish range vs. a stock g8 gt running 13.7ish range
gr8t gt 04-21-2011, 10:50 AM I found a 5.0 locally with 3.73's and no other options. Sticker is $30,860. Going to look at it today.
It may be time to sell the Buick WE4 and get a Stang.
The guy who sold me my Solo traded his G8 for a 5.0 Mustang. He said it was great, but he missed the extra doors. He would have stayed in the G8, but it was a company car with close to 100k and he needed a new car. Since GM no longer makes anything close to the G8 in this country, he was "forced" to goto a Mustang. It was a great looking car too. Very nice.

You drive it, you will want it. Its thats simple.... so smooth, quiet and fast.... great cars man. A friend of mine just got one setup just like that.
ThedudeLouie 04-23-2011, 09:04 PM Actually I've seen the new 5.0s run high 13s at our track. I was surprised since I ran against him. This was when I only had a tune.

And that was probably a new owner / driver... these cars are making 365 rwhp all day long. Thats a high 12 car anywhere if the driver knows how to speed shift.... and that will be very limited to tire selection too.

Agreed. I think the 5.0 is fast, but not many drivers know how to drive the manual version. Same way with the 2010 SS Camaro M6. I've cleaned quite a few of them in my G8 at the local quarter mile, of course I have headers, CAI, and a pretty darn good tune...

That about sums it up right here.
Mustang power to weight ratio is 8.8lbs/hp
G8 GT is around 11.3lbs/ hp
Also the stangs are geared better if it is manual *they have the option to get a 3.75 final drive installed*. Its no competition apples to oranges really, the new mustang is a beast then again Ford was chasing the likes of M3s and such with the new mustang.
I wouldnt race a mustang unless i dropped around 500lbs from the car and magically gained another 60-100hp.
U mean Magnally gained another 60-100 hp? lol
I have raced 5 or 6 new 5.0 at the track. I still have not lost and only 1 had a better time. He ran a 12.9 to my 13.1 but I killed him off the line. All of there trap speed were 110-112 and I could only trap 108 so they all started to pull on my about half track. I have been lucky so far. Oh and the 1 that ran the 12.9 was tuned with gears but the driver mod was bad. None the less ford made a fast mustang for the first time in 40 years.
jackalope 07-01-2011, 07:23 AM I gotta say it depends on where you race him at. I went at it against a black 5.0 vert up 211 in VA and noticed his car couldn't stick in the corners as well as my G8 did and I'm not sure which car makes more torque down low but coming out of the turns I'd pull away before he'd start to catch back up. At the top of the mountain I had 6 cars on him. Mods include a Vararam intake, Cortex tune, MSD coils, MSD wires, underdrive pulley and Dynomax mufflers.
bostonf4$ 07-01-2011, 08:32 AM An intake/tuned GT could hang w/ a 5.0 mustang, but if the mustang had the optional 3.75 gears then it would take intake/tune/headers to get even close, a stall would put the GT head, maybe some HF cats,
